Helene Tursten (born in Gothenburg in 1954) is a Swedish writer of crime fiction. The main character in her stories is Detective Inspector Irene Huss. Before becoming an author, Tursten worked as a nurse and then a dentist, but was forced to leave due to illness. During her illness she worked as a translator of medical articles.
Eleven short stories, ten of them ghost stories and one tale of crime from the Irene Huss series I never heard about before. I am not quite sure why the crime story was included, because the other short episodes fit neatly together, and gave me cozy creeps, if that makes any sense.
Some of these stories are located in brooding houses in the country side, some in a bigger city, and quite a few about life in hospital and weird things nurses might see at night.
Some supernatural encounters creep the characters out, some save their lifes. I liked this book - apart from said one story - and would like to read more.
