This was my first time reading any of the Thor comics, and this collection was as good a place to start as any. It includes a selection of comics from various points in Thor's history, from the earliest encounters to much more up-to-date comics.

I didn't really enjoy the style of the earlier comics, but really loved the artwork of the latter half of the book, which was epic and colourful and bombastic. Although I don't love Thor's storyline and find it a little cheesy at times, the dramatic nature of the stories in the second half of the collection made them really entertaining to read.

This collection includes in-depth character biographies, as well as information on Thor's initial conception in the Marvel Universe by Stan Lee, which was also very interesting. If you're a Thor fan, a Marvel fan, or just a comic book fan in general, I'd recommend picking this up.

If you are new to comics and Thor, I think this is a really good starting point. The stories are really good and the fact files at the back give a good background on the characters found in Asgard.

Marvel Platinum: The Definitive Thor

Some of the absolute best collected works from a Marvel Platinum. Potentially my favourite MP I have read as of yet.

Another great Marvel Platinum collection. As ever, these volumes provide a superb overview of a Marvel character, with a smattering of issues from their earliest to their latest story arcs.

Thor has a pretty convoluted plotline, overall, which is definitely to the detriment of the series. There have been a large number of seemingly colossal changes to him, his godly pals, and Asgard, over the years, and I did find it a bit overbearing just how much changes between each era presented here.

I was surprised to find I enjoyed the Civil War story the most out of all, given that I usually don't care in the slightest about that event. A really cool issue (although still suffers from trying to do too much in one issue and rushing the end, as I always find).
