Your 100 Day Prayer: The Transforming Power of Actively Waiting on God

Rate this book
"Let's put aside any false humility or pride," author John Snyder says, "and come before God with boldness, asking for the moon." He reminds us that the Bible says we are to ask and then ask again. Over and over. Day in. Day out. When the need is so great, so seemingly impossible that only God's direct intervention will ever bring it about, it takes a different kind of prayer. Your 100 Day Prayer is designed to take you straight to the heart and will of God by seeking him for a specific need. This book Your 100 Day Prayer will help you access the power of sustained petitioning prayer. You will find advice and encouragement for pleading one specific need. And you will discover that God does respond.
A powerful witness to the place of prayer in the Christian life with a user friendly daily discipline to introduce you to it. Highly recommended. ―Thomas W. Gillespie, President Emeritus, Princeton Theological Seminary, New Jersey The concept of Your 100 Days of Prayer is inspired, and can only accomplish great things for our nation and the Kingdom of God if we'll all cooperate and implement it. In today's Internet age of instant gratification, it's all too easy for Christians to "want it now" and expect the Lord to instantly honor Matthew 7:7: "Ask and it will be given to you . . ." This book provided a clear and concise manner to pray. While remembering all the daily prayer instructions, the book game me a plan on how to handle the different needs we have during our daily prayer journey. It reinforced some of the ways I pray and changed some of the other habits I had. I consider this an extremely important tool to foster my future prayer habits.

Okay, let me start by saying that I have not finished this 100-day devotional yet. I have dedicated myself to it and have been faithfully following it for over 50 days so I felt as though I was at a point where I could formulate a helpful review despite the fact that I have not yet completed the journey.

I guess my overall impression of this devotional is that it is an EXCELLENT idea for a devotional, and the first 10 to 25 days perhaps are filled with excellent devotional materials surrounding the premise of spending 100 days of focussed daily prayer with God on one particular prayer request. But after about day 10 to 25, I found that the author seemed to either lose focus or, as seemed more likely, ran out of ideas to fuel his devotional to day 100.

I think the idea of encouraging Christians to embark on a steadfast journey of prayer and seeking with God for a long period of time is great. I think that the author did a great job in the beginning of bringing out different ways of approaching this journey as you went through each day in the first quarter of the book. But I found that eventually the devotional failed to offer any new or encouraging insight or help into the task.

I would encourage readers to take up the challenge of devoting themselves to a specific prayer request for 100 days or more, but this book will not be particularly helpful in your wish to do so.

As an aside, I would add that even the act of trying to determine what you're going to pray for for that specific time has enormous devotional qualities to it and I would have liked the author to have spent more time on this issue in the beginning of the book as well.

I bought 5 copies of this book to give out to friends at Christmas after I read and was amazed by the first few days of this devotional. Now I kind of wish I hadn't, and had just encouraged my friends to try this neat way of spending a focussed time of prayer on something with God.

Sometimes a book speaks universally, to all people in all situations.

This book is different.

It gives you the opportunity to take a 3-month journey in prayer, focused on a single point of interest.

There is great wisdom in praying about the same issue repeatedly, and Mr. Snyder makes a compelling case to support this perspective.

When Jesus tells the story of a desperate but persistent widow who keeps asking the same judge for help, he is teaching us to bring our prayers to God repeatedly, like a child who asks for the same thing over and over again.

This isn’t to teach us to be whiny, but to develop a healthy spiritual dependence upon God. If you don’t share a belief in the God described in the Bible, then this book will just exasperate you.

One area in which I did not find the author’s perspective compelling was when he wrote, “We can ask for health, healing, rescue, a mate, a career, or even a new Lamborghini! The worst that can happen is God can say no.”

In a strictly logical sense, I agree.

If a person follows the 100-day plan outlined in this book, it will become clear while going through the daily reflections that asking for a sports car is a selfish and lame request, kind of like asking for your favorite team to win a playoff game.

But the value of learning persistence in prayer, focused on a single point of significant interest, allows me to forgive Mr. Snyder’s command that we give up our “false humility” and just ask God for whatever we really want.

I suggest that you purchase this book in hard copy if you’re interested. In addition to a daily scripture reading, devotional, and brief guided prayer, there’s space each day for recording “Today’s Progress,” but this feature is not accessible in eBook format.

This book offers 100 days of prayer beginning with a Bible passage, followed by the author's explanation and interpretation of the passage. After each day's reading, there is blank space for one's thoughts, meditations, or for journaling. It is an easy read, not too deep, but thought provoking and encouraging.
It is written in a cohesive way, for instance, beginning with an opening prayer, and a quick guide on how to use the book. Each day's topic has a different theme, yet are all connected in some way. For example, day one, entitled, "in the beginning" quotes from the book of Genesis and the passages continue on this way.
I like how each day has a different topic, making this a good book to go to at any time if you are struggling with an issue, you can easily go to the table of contents and pick with topic fits for you and re-read it. I say re-read, as I would recommend reading it through entirely the first time.
Some topics include: Living our purpose, first things first, stress free, anger and patience, the perfect plan, hopes and dreams, and much, much more. This is a great book for anyone. An inspiration and guide on life's journey.
I received this book in return for my honest review from BookSneeze.com.

I haven't worked through the whole book yet, but have actually to start over and follow through ever day! But I have done enough i feel for a review. I really appreciate this book due to some circumstances in our family life, and the idea of deliberately focusing on an issue in prayer daily is exciting! I'm not sure that this book is quite what I expected but it is still a valuable tool I'm excited to put to use! The book contains short devotionals of about a page each, and a prompt to prayer encouraging one to focus on an area or idea, such as dealing with the shock of the request one is praying for, or asking God to reveal what He is teaching through the circumstance. I like that each devotional is short, allowing you to do it quickly in the morning and continue to pray and meditate on the idea through the day. It is short enough that it can be a supplement to an additional study without being overwhelming. There is a space for notes for each day as well. I'd recommend this book if there's a request (and who among us doesn't have something?!) that you need to truly focus on and bring to the Lord.

I recieved an e-copy of this book from the publisher for review.

I liked this guide, it was quite different from the usual "how to pray" type books. This one read like a daily devotion, about a page and a half of guidance for the day and then a place to make notes. The premise is that sometimes God requires us to "storm heaven" with our prayers. Why? Because He needs to let us find out if we really are serious about the prayer or if it's just a transiting wish. And, of course, sometimes the prayer meets up with the spiritual battles that are occurring which we can't see and therefore takes longer to reach it's conclusion. Rather than pat this-is-what-you-say entries the daily notes are more focused on what and why you should take this step next. It certainly helps to bring a more focused daily prayer schedule into your life and encourages the family to have a communal prayer time. A very good resource for both beginners and seasoned prayer warriors with lots of scripture references.

I loved the premise of this book—that if you will be persistent in your prayer request to God (for 100 days), you will see an answer. To be fair, right from the start, the author allows that God’s answer may be “no”. I did not get the impression that he was teaching us to manipulate God at all.

I loved the subtitle of this book as well—The Transforming Power of Actively Waiting on God. I did not, however, believe this book revealed this truth. To me, waiting on God is not simply waiting for Him to answer a prayer. It is more connected with listening to God. Any book that goes into how to really listen to God, would have more accurately revealed the truth of the transforming power of waiting on God.

An Amazing book that keeps you interested, not just one boring page after another.

starts off with the first prayer called " in the beginning", some of my favorite ones are day 11 "pressed but not crushed
, day 13 "nothings impossible". Day 20 "here for a reason" and day 52 " anger and patience" to name a few.

After Each prayer/story there is places for the reader to write in called "todays progress". At the end of the book there is among with the concluding date of the prayers, you have a place to fill in how God answered your prayer, above that it says " Lord, as I reflect on my one hundred days of prayer..." and also one final prayer.

A must read, this one will give you plenty food for thought.

Your 100 Day Prayer is a guide for your own one hundred days. Each entry begins with a passage of Scripture and ends with preparation for prayer for that day. After your prayer, you can enter your thoughts and any notes you may have.

Each day you can express your need and praise His name. There are several lines to jot your thoughts and progress. Each day's passage and preparation not only prepares you for your own daily prayer, but it also offers advice and encouragement. My mom reads a 'daily bread' every morning that offers a passage of Scripture to help guide with her spiritualism, but I believe The 100 Day Prayer offers even more. With the ability to discover daily that God does listen and does respond is the catalyst to continue forth on your transforming journey.
