What do you do when your father wants to turn you into a vampire and the man who offers you protection has his own, dark agenda?
Shawna Rawley has no choice but to run. Pentim Rawley, one of the most evil vampires who has ever lived, has just discovered that she is his daughter. Now he’s obsessed with finding and turning her. She doesn’t want Pentim to find the people she loves and use them to get to her. She doesn’t want him to find and turn her. She has only one ace up her sleeve. The human in her may be at risk, but in addition to being half vamp, Shawna is also a white witch!
Chad MacFare has an offer for Shawna he thinks she can’t afford to refuse: he’ll protect her from Pentim and his minions. But Shawna doesn’t trust the sexy immortal. She knows he has his own agenda—he wants to kill her father, and he wants to set her up as bait…
4.5 stars!! A good paranormal romance filled with vampires, witches, immortals, electricity entities, white magic, black magic and fae skills. These make it sound like a fantasy, but it isn't, an urban fantasy possibly, but definitely is a paranormal romance.
Chadwick, an Scottish immortal with visions, is a playa who just wants 'friends with benefits'. He wants to use Shawna as bait to trap an evil vampire. Despite his not wanting to get romantically involved with his bait, he gets a hard-on just from seeing her in a vision. When he tries to talk to her on a Manhattan street, he is actually shocked when she won't talk to him or agree to have a coffee with him. He "had never before been rebuffed by a woman". The more time he's around her, the more he's affected by her, moved by her. He feels it is "so much more than her tantalizing beauty, more than the sexual rawness of a come hither buried inside of her and begging, dripping to be licked…", un huh, he's got it bad. Even though he feels he can't get involved with her, other than to protect her and use her for bait of course, because he cannot offer her a future, he so wants her to want him. He is sure "he had never needed a woman the way he needed Shawna".
Shawna, a halfling (white witch and vampire) not yet 25, is a street smart young woman whose father, who has just found out he has a daughter, is the self-proclaimed Vampire Prince and he wants to find and turn her to gain the use of her powers. He is truly evil. So she has to keep on the run until she can come up with a plan to kill him. When she sees Chad for the first time she thinks, "sexy, hot, and handsome in an all too memorable way." She's lonely but feels she must stay alone because she can't drag anyone into the problems facing her. Being a halfling, she requires a little blood, animal is fine, to live and she has many of the strengths of a vampire apparently without the weaknesses.
The sexual chemistry of these two jumps off the page. The more she pushes him away, the more he seems unable to keep his hands and lips off her. And she can't seem to stop him. The attraction is hard to deny. She verbally keeps pushing him away but her body keeps trying to keep him close. Unbeknownst to him, she is a virgin. Despite the chemistry, there is really only time in this fast paced, 135 page story for one night of passionate sex.
I enjoyed this story very much. The characters are vivid and plot is great. There is bit of foreshadowing perhaps(?) with Damon, Shawna's vampire friend, and an unknown slayer. The only thing that disappointed me about this story is how the evil father is dealt with.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Paranormal romance, urban fantasy and vampire fans should make sure to put this on or near the top of their wishlist.
Warning Spoiler Alert!!!! This has a HEA ending ... well mostly ... some things are left unanswered -- is Shawna immortal because of her vampire half or will Chad be able to make her immortal. Will Dracula find them and Chad's family?
Back to my disappointment with the story ... the ending is kinda anti-climactic. It seemed as if Shawna's father, Pentim, the one she was on the run from, the one who Chad has been after for so long, one of the most evil vampires ever, dies too quickly and easily.

My Thoughts and Review
Wow ! What a great start to a new series I loved it ! Love the characters and how the setting and how the story ended up in the Highlands.I have to say when I started reading the story automatically I fell in love with Chad what a charmer he was and his had a way with words. Chad the dark and mysterious Lord with a sense of humor and also a passionate and protective fellow. He was made up of so many layers that you kept peeling them back that you kept learning one more revealing secret about himself and his family.I was so wishing I was Shawna without the danger of course ! LOL
I have to say that Shawna was a strong and independent women and to have someone like Chad come crashing into your life knowing everything about yourself and not a thing about him made her uneasy and distrustful but Chad had a way of worming into heart quickly. But with a father wanting to use you as tool for destruction and wanting to make you a vampire Shawna needed to trust someone and Chad seemed the person. But, Chad was an unknown not knowing the extent of his super powers. But, she would soon learn......
The story was quite the page turner for me ! I could not wait to see what would happen next I couldn't put the e-reader down as we speak. There was so much going on in the story with Shawna learning more about herself and more about her grandparents and mother learning the extent of there own families abilities and putting her abilities to use along with Chad's to defeat a common goal and rid the evil vampire. The story also surprises you that Count Dracula plays a part in the story and as the story unfolds so will the part that Dracula plays in it and we will learn that he is connected to the story in some way and the story continues in the next of series.
This story had all the things that make a great one for me. Fun characters with whit and adventure wrought with danger, mysterious plot, a love triangle in the making , strange occurrences, more than one person trying to kill you and also had me giggling throughout the story and a ending that you know may or may not he a happy one!
I loved the story and look forward to reading the other books in its series. One of the pluses on this author side for me is she has made this into a continuing series which I so love to read with all the other characters gracing the other stories in its series.Looking forward to learning more about them and the role they will play.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. Ok wow, this book has a lot going on. Half vamp half witch, Shawna is on the run from her father, an evil vampire who wants to make her a full vampire. Though she needs blood, she only consumes animal blood from the butcher. She wants nothing to do with him. She runs to Scotland to a little rental cottage owned by a gentleman squire. He seems quite nice but a little off. She has been approached by Chadwick, who claims to want to help her, but she doesn’t know or trust him. She also keeps running into an old acquaintance named Damon, He’s vamp, but he’s also something else too, but for some reason, she trusts him. Throughout this book, she is stalked by vampires and electric entity’s amongst other things. Chad says he wants to help her, train her, and defeat her father. She can’t figure out exactly what he is either and isn’t sure if she trusts him, but there is a major attraction between them that can’t be ignored. After a series of close calls, Shawna agrees to train with Chad. But will she have time to hone her skills before her father finds and tries to change her or the entity gets her? Her old friend Damon will come into play during the story as well as DRACULA! Great book, must read.
I've been so busy with real life but I finally got a chance to read Shadowlove and I wish I had found time to read it earlier because its amazingly yummy! Shawna is our lovely heroine who lives in New York City. She's a special girl as she's half vampire and half white witch. She's never drank human blood before and survives off of pig blood (I know gross, but she's not a killer and Vampires in this series tend to let their blood lust overtake them, killing their victims) so yeah animals blood is kind of gross but you have to admire the determination of someone like that, willing to give up human blood.
Her mom died when she was just a baby... her vampire father tried to turn her but the mother was a white witch... she managed to escape when she realized the vampire wanted to keep her and her parents (white magic folks) nurtured her back to health. However the diseased blood of the vampire went against her white magic and her white magic fought the bad blood but soon after having Shawna she dies and Shawna is raised by her loving grandparents who've taught her how to keep her safe.
Then we have the hero of the story Chad, who's kind of a cocky, sexy a** and keeps managing to find Shawna and he openly admits he wants to use her as bait against her real father.. you see Shawna's real father doesn't know he has a daughter, but he finds out and Shawna separates from her grandparents to keep them safe, while she keeps running/setting traps in new places... the thing is... Chad keeps getting through her traps and doing things that shouldn't be possible....
Shawna leaves New York and goes to hide in Scotland... the owner is a bit off but cute/quiet and she's happy in her little cottage... though some kind of creature made of energy keeps trying to kill her....
I don't want to say too much because it would give the story away... Let's just say this is a nice spicy paranormal romance with a strong female heroine, a gorgeous alpha infuriating at times male, a psycho deranged father and some cool paranormal mixes like witches, fae powers, demons, vampires (good and bad). I really loved the story and that is why its 8:30 in the morning and I just finished reading...after staying up to read instead of going to sleep like a good girl LOL!
Read the book, share the book, like the tags in the story... Claudy is offering this one for free right now and even the checking of tags and liking the book (near the top where it has the facebook like) really helps the authors out and I figure if an author is offering me a free story its the least I can do... (reviews are good too! Even a sentence or two helps your authors) :) (Amazon, Goodreads, Smashwords, Shelfari, B&N etc)
This is another 5 star book by Claudy Conn. She hasn't disappointed yet. Have a heroine who is half vampire and half white witch and who is running from her vampire father. She encounters Chad, an immortal, who will help her against her father (naturally he has his own reasons for doing this. Great story, great characters and hated when it ended. If you love Claudy's books, you will love this one which is the start of a new series.
Avid vampire and paranormal romance enthusiasts are in for a darkly delicious thrill when they sink their teeth into Claudy Conn’s newest series, ShadowLove – Stalkers. Conn has a gift for character and plot development that sets her work apart from other romance novelists. There are few romance writers of her caliber, who are able to sustain and build a quality series as she can do. It is a pleasurable gift to all of us that she has launched her writing into the paranormal and vampire sub-genres.
Shawna has been running for most of her life. Half white witch and half vamp, Shawna’s daddy is Pentim Rawley, the powerful and vicious leader of a ruling vampire clan. Hidden at birth, protected and trained in the magical arts by her grandparents, Shawna has grown into a feisty, independent, beautiful young woman, but she is deeply lonely and now she has to run . . . Pentim has discovered that he has a daughter and he is looking for her.
Enter Chad Macfare . . . with secrets and desires of his own. He has visions, waking dreams of Shawna in Pentim’s grasp, and what he sees chills him to the bone. Chad is moved to seek Shawna himself, but is torn between the need to protect her and the knowledge that he will have to use her as bait if he is ever to destroy the monster that is Pentim Rawley. This is a deadly game with more at risk for Chad Macfare than losing his heart. Chad is more than he seems. His family has secrets so deep that if revealed would bring them under the eye of the father of all vampires himself, Dracula. Together Shawna and Chad struggle with trusting each other and knowing that the secrets they each keep could place others, innocents, in the hands of pure evil.
ShadowLove – Stalkers is filled with steaming action and dramatic tension. Vampires aren’t the only monsters taking cover in the darkness of the night. There are other powers introduced for the series, whose intentions and capabilities are yet to be revealed. Claudy delicately plants the seeds for future development and characters without distracting from the excitement and romance of Stalkers. She has taken the best of the vampire and paranormal lore and built in many intriguing twists and avenues, exploring and combing the lore so masterfully that she develops whole areas of the genre left untouched by other writers. The result is that she has a paranormal, vampire series, of romance novels, which carries her own unique and spicy aroma.
All that being said and I still haven’t mentioned that Claudy fills her stories with enough passion to make the pages spark, sizzle, and steam. She doesn’t skimp when it comes to building sexy into her characters. The women are luscious and the men . . . well, the action doesn’t stop with the plot. She really knows how to make us tingle with anticipation for her next book. ShadowLove – Stalkers is hot, Hot, HOT . . . and yes, I am blushing.
ShadowLove Stalkers by Claudy Conn Shadow Series Book 1 Shawna MacBay, her current last name she’s using since she has run off to hide in Scotland, is trying to stay ahead of the Rawley Clan. Vampires led by her father, Pentim Rawley, who she always knew existed but he only recently learned that he has a daughter. And why wouldn’t she want to meet dear old daddy? He’s a vampire, and a bad one at that, and he will want her to be one of the soulless creatures as well. No thanks!
Chadwick MacFare sees Shawna as the perfect bait to finally end Pentim’s life. Chad has his own personal reasons for wanting the vamps existence wiped off this earth for good. But first Chad needs to convince the beautiful Shawna to be the bait that draws Pentim to his trap. Unlike most women who would gladly go anywhere Chad asked….Shawna don’t. What will it take to gain her trust? And gain it quickly as the evil things around them begin to close in.
The characters in Claudy's books seem to come alive. Whether it be their Scottish brogues or their unique skills. Alpha men who are taken down by the beautiful women they encounter. She writes so you get to see inside the minds of the main characters and others as well. Sometimes I even get to liking the bad guys because you see what makes them tick but they usually do something evil enough that you don't cry when they are extinguished. We meet a unique vampire in this book as well, Damon Drummond. The second book in this series is called ShadowHeart Slayer and is Damon’s story. **Sexual situations and language http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
ARC for Review. OMGosh I thoroughly enjoyed this book, in fact I think it should be a movie. Thank you Claudy for being generous and allowing me to explore this Amazing world full of suspense, mystery, betrayal, jealousy, gorgeous, lovable characters, with action packed fight scenes with a touch of horror to keep you guessing who in world is that, and just enough eroticism to spice it perfectly.
Shawna Rawley is a young woman on the run from her biological father who after finding out about her, wants to turn her. She likes who she is and will do whatever it takes to stay that way. Enter Chad MacFare, a her world is about to embark on a journey that makes her blood boil in more ways then one. He has his own reasons for wanting her father, Pentim dead, and wants use her as bait! Oh the nerve of that one.. Will they succeed or fail?
Exceptionally well written, easy to follow, characters are well described and lovable or worthy of despise. The world building is awesome and consistent from beginning to end.I fell in love with Claudy's writing style.
I recommend this book to all 18+ readers out there who like a multi-layered paranormal read with some spice.
Title: Shadowlove-Stalkers Author: Claudy Conn Released date: June 1, 2011 Page count: 270 Genre: Fiction, Romance, Fantasy, and paranormal. My rating: 4.5/5 stars Publisher:Create Space Summery:
My Thoughts: I really wasn't sure what to expect when I was reading this because I won it from another fellow blogger. It took about 20% to fully get into it but the wait was worth it.
The Review: The plot takes some time to fully get into because she explains everything over time. It may seem slow at times, but once the story gets going you'll be sucked into it. Shadowlove-Stalkers is mainly going around the vampire and immortals with questions about who they truly are and why. The story had the main conflict that it seemed to stick with normally. It had those small little problems that gave the story feeling. Nothing like a electricity demon thing to only find out some idiot brought his mom back to life. You can see what I thought of him.
Some Questions: 1) What do you normally like better vampires or immortals? What are your thoughts when they are combined together. 2) What's your favorite paranormal creature to read about, why?
This is the first book Ive read by Claudy Conn and it definitely will not be the last. I loved Claudy's new twist on Dracula's tale. Claudy knows how to write dangerous and mysterious men leaving you wanting to read more of them. So much is going on in this unique tale. All of it blends together perfectly. Shawna and Chad are both independent, secretive and complex individuals. They are a perfect match. Chad comes into Shawna's life just in time to help protect her. They both try to fight the passion between them. Neither want to trust the other completly until they are forced to. Chad is so sexy and his accent is such a turn on making you want him more. He is so confident. The way Claudy describes his chest with his tattoos has you picturing it in your head making you want to rub your hands down his abs just like Shawna wants to. If you are a lover of paranormal and fantasy with a romantic twist you will love this tale. This book was really refreshing. It was very light in the sex department but that didnt take away from the story at all. Im looking forward to reading the next in this series and all the other books Claudy has out.
I thought the concept was a great idea however I did not think it was carried out well. I struggled to finish this book. In fact, it took me 5 days to read and that is unheard of for me. I never connected with the characters. Chad and Shawna's romance was lackluster at best and I felt it was more "told to you" than shown to you. The book did not flow well, the story was confusing and the conversations were, at times, odd. There was not much action in this story, the ending was pretty anticlimactic and when it was all over I didn't feel I knew much more than when I started the book. Not sure if I will bother reading the next in the series.
First in this new series from Claudy Conn! This is a completely new and fresh take on the over done vampire culture. Claudy manages to create a new world full of action, mystery and suspense. The characters are amazing and you quickly fall for them. This book is fast paced and keeps you flipping the pages.
What I love about this book is there are more than just vampires in the mix. The author has done a great job of bringing together a cast of characters fit for any horror show!
Another great series by Claudy Conn!! I was pulled in right away and found it impossible to put down. I loved the way the story unfolded and the characters were incredible. I have already purchased book 2 in the series and can't wait to start it. I know I will be adding this series to my "must re-read over and over again" list for sure!!
Fascinating spin on the story of Dracula!! What can I say? Claudy Conn has written another amazing tale full of sexiness, suspense, and action. I just love the spin on the story of Dracula. Claudy is an amazing story teller whose descriptive writing gives you the feeling that you are living the tale. Shawna (daughter of Dracula), is not only a vampire, but is also half-witch. A gift that has her father wanting to come after her. He sets out to find Shawna in an attempt to make her a full vampire. A vampire with special abilities. Shawna has been running most of life from her father to prevent this from happening. Chad wants to help Shawna defeat her father, but she has no intention on trusting him. She wants to handle the matter all on her own. But Chad feels ahe is not ready or capable of killing her father all by herself. Both are attracted to each other, but neither wil admit to it. Can they put their trust issues aside and come together to destroy an evil man? And will they give into the passion they feel for each other? For those who love paranormal romance with a little suspense, this book is for you. Claudy is one of my favorite writers, and I know she will become one of yours too.
Once again Claudy does it again. Where do I start with this book? It had my attention from the very first page to the very last one. She made Shawna funny, well not funny but feisty and entertaining as hell to read about. Then you have Pentim who you know is dangerous but you can also tell he is sexy and very alluring vampire. Shawna and Pantim is a match made in heaven well maybe not heaven. I think the way Claudy made Shawn half witch and half vampire makes u just want to read about it because you know the plot is good especially with her writing history. Shawna is a good person, she never did anything bad she didn't even use human blood for anything! There are so many emotions while reading this book, and I was pregnant when I read this book so I was extra emotional. This story isn't like most I read first its a romance book and somehow Claudy has got me hooked on her romance books. And Second, I just can't stay away from her books period no matter if they are paranormal or not.
Claudy did it again! I love, love, love her Fae series, so I thought I would give her vamp series a go. I am so glad I did. One of the many things I enjoy about her writing is that she takes the lore and makes it her own. This book has vampires, black magic, a half vampire/half witch, immortals, and more. She does not stick with the typical vampire story. I love it!!!! The only issue I had with this book was that it kept me up all night reading "just one more chapter". Of course, that "one more chapter" became the whole book. Consequently, I am very tired today ;). I will definitely, without a doubt, be reading the next book in this series. I am so excited to find a new vampire series to dive into! This was super close to a five star :).
Claudy Conn has done it again!! She has drawn me into yet another wonderful story, kept me interested with every twist and turn, and left me wanting for more! I fell in love with the characters.
Chad is a total to die for, handsome, beast of a man. Shawna, an independent, deluded, hard headed enough to make me want to shake her, woman. The love these two share is meant to last forever. Speaking of love, the scenes between Chad and Shawna is enough to make a reader squirm, maybe even blush. :)
I can’t wait to read the next in what I can only assume with be another fantastic series by Claudy Conn to fall in love with! I would definitely recommend this book to an 18+ friend.
I got this book as a free download and I really enjoyed it. It had everything a good book needs, great characters that you care about, plenty of action and romance and a good villain. Claudy Conn was also able to give a new twist to Vampires and the paranormal. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. If it had not been for the busy Holiday season I would have tried to read it in one sitting.
Thank you Claudy. I have added a new set of books to my shelves. Started a little slow but there was a lot to map out... rather like a roller coaster starts quitely...then before you know it we are plunged into the whirling storyline and suddenly it is over... Waiting to catch my breath... falling under her spell... off to catch next installment **big grin**
First of all, let me say that I love reading vampire novels and have read a ton of them. But, this one just didn't really grab me and make me love it.
Shawna is a half-vampire/half-witch, trying to stay hidden from her vampire "prince" father. Somehow, two different men learn of her and try to keep her safe. One is a vampire named Damon and the other is an Immortal named Chad. Chad wants to use Shawna as bait to draw out her father so that he can kill him.
The story was very slow, with lots of unreasonable and unexplained things along the way. I never really understood how Damon came into the picture. Shawna was supposedly a very powerful person all her own, but we are never really shown her strength. Instead, she is mostly an aggravating person who just goes off without a thought to her own safety.
The beginning of the book was interesting because it talked about Vlad Dracula (although it wasn't very accurate historically). However, this prologue was never really tied into the rest of the book.
Also, the narrator spoke so slowly that I had to speed up my device in order to make myself listen to the book. If I had listened at normal speed, I would probably have fallen asleep.
All in all, not a horrible book, but not a great book. I will probably give Ms. Conn another chance to win me over, but I would never listen to or read this book again.
He's a whore she's a virgin. The sexual tension/chemistry is off the charts but the constant battle against their feelings for each other got really old. They both pushed the other away constantly, it got to the point that I no longer cared about the plot. I had a hard time finishing the book.
This book was OK. I thought it started off quite rough, but did eventually smooth itself out. I enjoyed the H & h (though I did want to slap Shawna on more than one occasion). Oddly, my favourite character was Dammon. He was just a side character (and apparently the H of the next book in the series), but I quite enjoyed his calm demeanour.
Though I generally enjoyed the book, I am not without complaints. I hate making this criticism, because I think it is horribly over used, but a lot of the book is told instead of shown. I think a full 10% goes by in the beginning before the reader gets a single sentence of dialogue that isn't in someone's memory. The reader is also told repeatedly how skilled Shawna is, but we don't really see her fight or defend herself at all. We're also treated to quite a lot of internal dialogue as both Shawna and Chad tell themselves how sexy the other is.
Though I imagine it comes into play in future books I also didn't see the importance of the Dracula connection. It is set up in the prologue and he shows up once in the book, but doesn't seem to have an active role in the plot. I was left wondering, 'what's that all about?'
I also felt that the two dangers to Shawna didn't seem to line up. She's supposed to be running for her father and that's the basic framework of the story, but a good 75% of the book goes by before there is any real threat present to her by him. Most of the action centres around a demon she randomly encounters when she moves to Scotland (and amazingly and coincidentally moves in next door to Chad). This demon has nothing to do with the whole father situation and really felt very out of left field to me.
I also never understood Chad's attitude toward Shawna. If you were meeting a woman for the first time (and all subsequent encounters with her) and needed to convince her to trust you to protect her while she endangered herself for the greater good, would you're chosen method be antagonism and smug arrogance? He keeps trying to get her agree to his dangerous plan, but never gives her a straight answer to anything and purposefully goads her at every turn. Yes, it made for some amusing verbal sparing, but compromised his own goal repeatedly.
I will happily say this isn't a case of insta-love. At least not on Shawna's part. It is however a stunning example of sex = love. Shawna doesn't trust Chad and he only admits to lusting after her. Then they have sex and voila, sudden boundless, eternal love exists. I got a little whiplash I think.
Then, after 250+ pages of supposedly running from her sociopath father (that we almost never see) the whole book wraps up in about a page and a half. The climax was a little underwhelming I have to admit. Despite all of the above, I did enjoy most of the book. It took a little while for me to settle into the story. But once I did it rolled along well enough and it presented an interesting new birth of vampires myth.
I downloaded this book onto my Kindle Fire from Amazon for free today so I figured I didn't have anything to lose by giving it a try. I'm so glad I did. I was hooked from the first page of the prologue. The book starts out with Count Dracula and how vampires came into existence. Count Dracula was enamored with a young girl named Elizabeth. He kidnapped and imprisoned her while soon she found out she was pregnant. She hated him and vowed to escape him. She conspired with a midwife to hide the fact she was pregnant with twins while only announcing to Count Dracula that he was going to the father of 1 child. He had lost interest in Elizabeth anyway so after handing off the baby to Dracula she escaped with her hidden twin son that he was unaware of. Dracula was so obsessed with his son he didn't even try to find Elizabeth. The son he raised was deemed Vlad Dracula "The Impaler". Now here is the problem that I have with this book. The prologue was fantastic! I would have loved the series to start off with John's story. John is the hidden twin that Elizabeth escaped with. Instead the main characters of the story are Elizabeth's grandson Chad and a half vamp/human girl named Shawna. This disconnect only serves to confuse the reader. It took me half the book to figure out how Chad or Shawna were related to Elizabeth or Dracula. Another issue is the instant love between Chad and Shawna. I didn't buy it. I think this could have been elaborated on and let build up instead of Shawna's lack of impulse control as happened in the love scenes. She just couldn't contain herself and jumped on him and that really turned me off to this romance. She trusted no one but yet had no control when it came to Chad?? One other thing I think the author needed to developed more was the blood orchard and how it could help Shawna. The book ended without her blood lust being resolved so I'm a little disappointed with that. I am wondering if that aspect will be revisited in the next book of the series. Yes I found faults in this book but it was also free (not sure how long Amazon will have it free) and it was interesting. I find a lot of times when these books are offered for free they are barely readable and that was not the case with this book. It was probably the best "free" book I've ever read. It is predictable but I find I like the :"Happy Ever After" stories so that wasn't a problem for me. I would say for free this book definitely was worth the read. It has a couple of graphic scenes but not too much so it's definitely adult oriented. I think people interested in the Highlander type creatures would like this book.
This is a really interesting read. There were a lot of eh moments, but plenty of great spots as well. My biggest gripe about this book is it was confused about how much of a romance it wanted to be. Mostly it was a great Urban Fantasy read, with patches of romance. The romance felt awkward in the first half of the book. Too much coming at you, I guess. Later it evens out, but the heat factor is odd.
I loved the mix of legends. There are a lot of great elements here pulled from other paranormal, supernatural and fae legends. Little bit Vamp, little bit Highlander. I loved the marriage of these elements and cannot wait to see where the series leads. There are many pots cooking here, which can also be a touch confusing. You have loads of information to sort through, not always pertinent to the present story. I am sure it will come into play in later books, but right now it was a lot to take in at once.
I loved Shawna and all her sass! She is a great character to read and mostly had her stuff together. Only a few moments where she forgot her common sense at home.
It was great trading POV with the leads and even getting insight into the big bad. It is always great for the reader to be on the inside and know everyone's motivation. It really makes the whole story more engaging.
There is a bit of steam, open bedroom door, but not full on erotic play by play. Plenty of heat though.
The big battle was a little but of a fizzle for me, so much build to have ended with a whimper.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Valerie Gilbert, who is fabulous! I love her voice on this series, a perfect fit. She adds great energy to the story and some very delicious accents as well. I loved listening to her and she keeps the story moving at slower moments. I think this may be my favorite read of hers, so far.
I am eager to see what happens next in the series. There is a yummy Vamp I can not wait to see get a HEA!

I've never read anything by this author before so wasn't sure what to expect. Despite it being slow in places, I quite enjoyed it. Shawna is a 20 something half vampire who has only ever used pigs' blood. She is also a powerful white witch on her mother's side. Chad is an immortal who is 200 years old. Apart from being immortal, I'm not quite sure what else Chad is.
Shawna is the secret daughter of a self-styled vampire 'Prince' called Pentim and she has spent her entire life hiding from him. Chad's mother was killed by Pentim and he is hell bent on killing Pentim in revenge for her death. When Chad becomes aware of Shawna's existence he seeks her out and hopes to use her as bait to lure in Pentim. When Pentim becomes aware of his daughter's existence, he stops at nothing to find her as he wants to turn her into a full vampire so they may rule together.
In her attempt to evade her father, Shawna temporarily moves to a small village in Scotland from New York and once there, realises that Chad is a neighbour. She also attracts the attention of her new landlord, Squire McDunn who doesn't take her rejection of him very well.
There were some interesting concepts that I haven't come across in previous paranormal romances that I've read i.e. shifters in this book were not at all what you would expect. I also felt that despite this being the first book in the series, there was re-capping written into the story that wasn't necessary.
Book: Shadow Love Stalkers Author: Claudy Conn Publication Date: May 29, 2011 Reviewed by: Tammy Payne http://booknooknuts.blogspot.com/ My Rating: 5 Stars
REVIEW: I honestly can say that this is the first book I have read by Author Claudy Conn and after this it will definetly not be the last. I am a big paranormal book fanatic and this book has it all. I love how in the prologue she introduces and explains vampire/dracula's origin.
Although I got this book for free off amazon dont let that deter you . Free does not mean it’s not FANTASTIC!!!!
Shawna is a 1/2 vamp 1/2 white witch who is being hunted down by her father who is a vampire who wishes to turn her into a full vamp. She encounters many who she doesn’t know whether to trust or not such as Chad who is an immortal I’m not sure what else he is but he has offered to help her by training her to kill her father. And although she doesn’t know why he seems to follow her there is also Damon who is a vampire. She will learn both of their secrets and fight to be rid of her father.
Read the next book in this series .. Shadow Love Slayers!!!!
