There are so many things I want to say about the Zabuton series, and I am sure I will never be able to fully express all the feelings that this series evoked in me. All the thoughts, the emotions, the memories of a distant past from generations before me. It made me wonder, what kind of life did the author lead, how could someone write something so poignant? How come it made me feel 無性に泣きたくなる with each and every chapter? Almost reminds me of “In the mood for love” in its sensibilities and sophistication, but with more 俗な characters.
A truly beautiful work, like an embodiment of the idea of 浮世, that life is fleeting, happiness is fleeting, and despite the agony life entails and how seemingly meaningless life is, people may choose to cling on to it in the hope of catching that fleeting happiness, again and again.
I’m honored to have encountered the Zabuton series, and thankful for Gou Shiira for having brought these terribly fascinating characters to life.
脱線だが, I’m listening to the audiobook of 国宝 by 吉田修一, and the voice of the narrator, 八代目尾上菊五郎, is exactly how I imagine Ubusuke’s voice to be.
One of the best classic BL novels comes pretty close to Uozumi-kun series. 剛しいら先生の本の中で、ボクサーシリーズとこのシリーズは別格です。 もともとの本は持っていましたが、もちろん即買い再読しました。やっぱりとっても素敵でした。ボクサーシリーズも新装版出してくれないかなあ。
