This book I hated. One of the main characters from another book dies and it was devastating. I was so upset I could not finish the book for 2 days. Also the hero is a cheating bastard who used the heroine as a replacement for his love!!! Then he continued to fuck her while he married his love and the fact that she accept this was the whole reason I hated this book. I warn you that he sleeps with her for the first time and of course she is a virgin and he keeps fucking his way in college while faithful stupid heroine kept it all buttoned up until he got back!!! I know this is weird but I wished he had some disease for all his unfaithfulness. I mean his wife was sleeping with everyone at the college while she kept him hanging!!! So sick he was like a pet dog. I can't like a hero I can't respect and never mind the heroine. She knows he is married and she is pathetic that she accept his crumbs. He literally is sleeping one night with one then one night with the other!!! Omg this is not romance people. This is disgusting!! Read only if you want to have heartburn.
This book tore my heart out! There was a major twist and the loss of a main character that I did not see coming. Even before this tragedy, I felt the actions of the H put this action in play. The H was more tuned into his ex-wife than his wife at times (he even kissed her on the front porch). His wife had his back and his love and his children. He was not physically unfaithful, but emotionally he was 'distracted.'
I believe the Calders, giving so much access to their ranch and to their home to the ex, disrespected Jessie. The h was a formidable character with strength, honor, compassion and passion. The entire family could have treated her better, she deserved it.
Well Ty just couldn't make up his mind who he would love. Tara or Jessy. Jesus really Ioved him and told him so. He never said "I love you" to either one. He was noting but a playboy and made me very frustrated.
Headstrong and proud, with her roots planted deep in Calder soil, Jessy Niles Calder isn't the sort of woman to lead a man or be led by him. She has always known that Ty Calder was the man for her, even if she had to wait for him to leave behind his loveless marriage to glamorous, poor little rich girl, Tara. Now, as Ty's wife, Jessy finally has everything she's ever wanted - the strong bonds of family, a thriving ranch, and the long-awaited promise of a new life growing within her...proof of her love for Ty.
And then Tara returns. As manipulative as she is beautiful, Tara has never brought anything with her but trouble, so Jessy can only wonder what her agenda is this time. But when Tara's powerful father dies, she seems genuinely grief-stricken and relies on Ty and his sister, Cat, for comfort and strength. Soon, Tara's back on the land and involved in their lives, and nothing is the same.
As days give way to months, Tara's very presence there divides the ranch, replacing long-held bonds of trust between employer and employees, friends and relatives, husband and wife - with seeds of suspicion and simmering jealousies that endanger Jessy's happiness and the Calders' claim on their land.
With everything at stake - from the ranch she loves to the name she proudly calls her own - Jessy Calder is in for the fight of her life. And when the Calders fight for what they love, they fight to win. But with Tara's return, a deep-seated desire for revenge has been stirred from an old danger...a secret link to the past that will test the fabric of the Calder clan, threatening their very lives - and culminating in a loss more heartbreaking than any of them could possibly imagine.
To my knowledge, I have never read anything by Janet Dailey before, although I may have several of her books hidden away somewhere on my bookshelves downstairs. Anyway, I absolutely loved reading this book! It was extremely well-written and the plot captured and held my attention strongly until the very end. This is the sixth book in the Calder Saga, but for all intents and purposes, it can be read on its own - which is something that I very much appreciated. I give this book an A+! and am looking forward to reading more from Janet Dailey in the future.
I haven't read a book about the Calder family for probably 20 years! Back in the day, I read and loved enough of them that the family was still familiar with me. I didn't have a problem reading this book that was published about 8 or so years ago.
Janet Dailey has cleaned up her sexual details since then---or maybe married sex isn't anything to go into detail about. : ) I don't know----it's been probably 20 years since I've read any of Janet Dailey books so I can't really say for sure if her writing has changed or just for this book.
It took me several chapters to get interested in the book. It wasn't that it was boring, it was just predictable or maybe that I wasn't as interested in the Calder family as I had been. I'm not sure what my problem was. It was not hard to read a section or chapter and then close the book and go to sleep. About 1/2 through that changed however, and I became very interested in seeing what happened.
Jesse is still as level headed and hardworking as ever, married to her life-long love, Ty Calder. They are busy keeping their ranch alive, making babies, and living life when the scheming, Cat-fighting X-wife shows up again. That was really too bad cause although Ty wasn't a complete idiot, he also wasn't strong enough to see the X-wife for the trouble she was. His excuses about showing "good manners" ran a little thin for me. I thought the ups and downs, through thick and thin, descriptions of married life ran realistic.
The ending gave lots of excitement and something to think about. If it wasn't for the slow first part of the book, I would have rated it 4 stars cause I did get very involved in the last few chapters.
Jessy waited forever for Ty Calder as she knew what she wanted. Ty finally divorced Tara and now Jessy and Ty are expecting twins. Happily ever after, right. Not quite as Tara's beloved father dies suddenly and Tara doesn't know what to do but to turn to Ty. Well she does know and knows exactly what she is doing as she is very manipulative and she wants Ty back.
Ty seemingly becomes more and more 'pulled' in as Tara helps to plan The Calder's auction barn and then buys the piece of land entirely enclosed by Calder ranch. The Calders have been trying to buy that land for a long time. How did Tara come by it so easily?
This series almost reads like a mystery as someone in every book is either killed or injured severely. Just another love story where the good girl wins in the end HOORAH!
Ty's ex-wife, Tara, is back and she wants her ex back. But he is married to Jessy, who is expecting twins. Tara needs to find a way back into Ty's life. Ballard, a ranch hand, tells the Calders they should start selling their cattle on their own. They would make more money. Tara's father dies. Ty goes to the funeral and mentions they want to have their own sale. Then she gets the idea of "helping" them get this done. She does not care that Ty is already married to Jessy and has two children. Then Tara buys some grazing land out from under the Calders. Strange things start happening around the ranch. The ranch hands think it's because of Tara, whom they do not like. Ty and Jessy are riding over to Tara's and the tires on their truck get shot out and they get hurt. What is happening? Is Tara to blame?
It has been years since I have read any of Janet Daly's books. I was looking through my paperbacks I use to read and ran across four of the Calder family series. One of them was written in 1993. I went to my IPad and looked up Janet Daly books. I purchased this book and it was hard to put down until I finished it. Needless to say I will be buying more. They are fantastic.
I admit that I was both bored and annoyed by this book; there isn’t enough detail of ranch life nor a concrete sense of time. Worst of all, I found Ty Calder’s attitude towards both his ex-wife and current wife slightly nauseating (even if it does show him as ‘human’). His hypocrisy was too much to stomach; it left me emotionally unaffected by his surprise death.
I wouldn’t recommend this one for fans of a traditional Western romance.

This was a very good book until one of the main characters died. I hate it when a character I like is killed off, and that turned me off when I got to that part of this book. It could be because I just lost three family members and two very close friends in the past year, but I am tired of people dying. Were it not for that, I would have rated this book higher.
I am fascinated by the Calder Saga written by Janet Dailey. It takes you back to a time where men were men and families were strong. Ms. Dailey lends authenticity to her stories and allows you to dream with her. Gritty, raw, with a lust for survival and love. Reviewed hby Heide Katros, Winter Haven News, Florida
An interesting story of a cattle baron and his family. The trials and tribulations of ranch life and problems caused by an ex-wife. Also, the love of husband and wife and the love of the family members. A good read!
“Bye-bye Daddy.” I’m gone. This is not my normal fare: western romance, but I’ve read the whole series and like the characters she’s created. I gave myself a headache reading this so voraciously, and not many books do that anymore.

Not sure if it was me or the book. Several times I would set it aside for a few days and debate whether it was going in the dnf pile. This book dragged for me. On top of everything else, I finished and hated the ending. Disappointing because Janet Dailey is one of my favorite authors.
A sad ending to a great son and Father to as twin boy and girl and a devoted wife. The ex~wife responsible for the death and loss. Thinking only of herself and her need for revenge.
First I want to say that when you give a review don't spoil it by writing a main character by the name of ..... gets killed off. That just spoils it for others. Some readers indicate Spoiler Alert and that is fine. You don't have to read beyond that. I thought this was a good book and enjoyed reading except for knowing in advance who gets killed off.
Really enjoyed this book. I did not figure out the plot. It was a total surprise ending. I highly recommend this book and all books written by this author.
I loved this series up through Book 5. However, when I read the synopsis of this one, it took me weeks before I could bring myself to read it. Tara is such a despicable character and the series goes downhill from this book forward. I love Jessy, but found this book too difficult to read. I absolutely hate it that Tara's character gets so much attention for the rest of the Calder series. Such a disappointment! I strongly recommend books one through five, but would also recommend you stop there and don't bother with the rest.
wasn;t sure i should finish this series, worried it would be fluff since i started it sooo long ago in the 80's , BUT I loved it!!! it was a great read and can't wait to finish them all!!!!
