Honestly, this almost felt like reading an essay. The story had so much potential, and they took it, but the writing was almost legitimately annoying. If you want to read it, read it. My opinion doesn't need to matter to you. I didn't like the writing of this book. And that is why I'm putting a low rating.
Eshaan Kak MYP 2.1 Language and Literature 10th April 2015 You Can’t Run In the book, You Can’t Run there is a girl called Robyn. Robyn is on a mystery to find a dangerous gang called the snakeheads. The snakeheads are a Chinese gang that smuggles people illegally to other countries by sending the people in a crate on a boat. On the way to find more about the snakeheads Robyn and her friend Morgan are kidnapped by two people called Ling-Kung and Phillip. However, there two men with a gun and took all four of them to a warehouse. Soon after that, there was an explosion in the warehouse there was a massive fight between the police and the two men but in the end, Morgan and Robyn were safe. The setting is in California US and it was in 2006. There were three main characters in this story. Those characters were Robyn Hunter, Nick, and Morgan. Robyn Hunter is the main protagonist in this story she is smart, brave, always calm even in tough situations and curious. Despite the fact she is brave and calm, she is sometimes scared. The second main character is Nick. Nick is always up to dangerous and illegal work but despite the fact he is a criminal he is Robyn’s boyfriend. Nick is smart, stony hearted, secretive and sensitive. In the book, Nick is the strongest character. The last main character is Morgan. Morgan is nice but also she acts a bit jerky. She is Robyn’s best friend she is sensitive, curious and she acts a bit bossy. Firstly in the book Robyn is looking for Nick in a parade. Nick was standing in front with a pink hat and with an envelope. When Robyn asked him why is he dressed like that, Nick tells Robyn politely to go but Robyn doesn’t listen and her curiosity continues after 5 minutes of Robyn questioning Nick, he finally states that he has collected money from other shops and he is going to give it to man. Although, he didn’t state why he was doing this. After that he started to question Nick why he was doing this. As a result of so many questions, Nick got angry and had an argument with her. In the end, Nick insults Robyn and her walks away crying about the insult. 2 minutes later Morgan joined her and they were chatting. Suddenly a man stole Robyn’s backpack both of the girls started chasing him but suddenly on the way, a man with a scarf points a gun at Robyn and tells her to stop chasing the man. In my opinion, I mainly like the book because of its action packed moments and how they make the action survive longer in the book. I also like how they use a lot of extensive vocabulary because it teaches me new words. At times the book was confusing because it didn’t describe the plot to well. I also liked the ending because everything was solved and the conflict was over and everyone was happy with each. The book was not that hard to read because usually the words were really simple but sometimes I had ask someone about 3 or 4 words I didn’t understand in the book but later on I understood it. The most favorite part of the book was when Morgan and Robyn were kidnapped and how the police busted in and had a major gun fight with them. The main I reason this part is because it was finished in 5 minutes but the authors style of writing made it seem like it lasted for a long time. One book I can make a connection is TinTin because he is also a young child that is interested in mysteries and gets caught but escapes. In my opinion, this book is rated 4.5/5 stars I think this book deserves this amount of stars because of its extensive use of vocabulary and how the author also shows sympathy for the girl sometimes by stating how defenseless and how she is badly injured. I also think that this book deserves 4.5 stars because how they describe the plot really well and how the author describes what feeling each character is going through. I recommend this book to students because they can learn new vocabulary from the book. I also recommended because of its well-balanced genres of love, action and thriller. One more reason I recommend this book to other students is that they will have a huge interest when they start reading the book.
Nothing like 1:30 in the morning readings to keep the insomniac awake. I love love LOVE mysteries. They always get my heart pounding. They're especially intriguing when you read them at night. So riveting. I've had the reading bug lately which is really nice. I love seeing how these Robyn Hunter mysteries come together. It's always strange and unexpected. Just what I love. My favourite thing is that it's a YA book about mysteries. Yes, there is a little romance, but that is not the main element, which I think is important. My favourite character is probably Mac Hunter, Robyn's dad, just because he's so whimsical. I'm having so much fun reading these again. And in order!! It makes so much more sense now. Can't wait to read the third one!
In this book, Robyn Hunter is the daughter of a ex- police officer who is now a detective and a lawyer. Robyn goes to the same school as the weirdest most creepest loaner ever... Trisha. Trisha has yet again runaway but this time it is different. She's been missing for a while now and Robyn can't not help once she finds out her father is on the case. Robyn had said something to upset her and thinks that it is her fault that she ran away. This book follows Robyn on a scary adventure in search for her weird classmate.
A very engaging mystery for the Young Adult group. Robyn wants to save a girl she barely knows from the danger she thinks the girl faces at home, but she is unaware of the convoluted story the girl is living. The writing is straightforward and adult, and as such escapes the sometimes cutesy condescending tone and light-hearted treatment one can find in YA novels. Adults looking for a quick read would also be satisfied with this book.
I read this one first before Last Chance. I loved it so much that when I saw the rest of the series in the book order in school, I had to have them all. Robyn is honestly one of my favorite fictional characters, and I saw a lot of myself in her (or who I wanted to be). There is always a twist at the end of the books once you think everything's resolved, and you never see them coming. They're so great.
The second book in the Robyn Hunter series didn't let me down. Once again we got an interesting mystery with likable characters. I like that Robyn's parents aren't depicted as bad guys. They have a complicated relationship, but they both obviously love her and she has a great relationship with both of them. Not something you see often in YA lit.
This was the first book I read of the series, not realizing it was the second book. I own it and have read it a number of times. I got it for free when scholastic was late on another book order. But it was an amazing read.
I'm too old for this book, this was a book that was definitely for the younger set. The mystery was good but easily solvable. If I were a couple years younger I probably would have liked this a lot more.
Good book. I like the different characters they all contrast in this book but then you see some of them work together. I think the main theme of this book is things aren't always what they seem. Because some one you thought has good intentions may be working for bad.
I thought it was a OK book. It didn't give me the story and emotion i thought it had. It left some mystery and kept me reading and kept me reading for a while but i eventually got bored of the random events.
It was nice to see Robyn taking traits from her dad AND her mom to solve mysteries that not even some of the greatest detectives in the world could solve!
(the detective thing refers to the in-book detectives, not real ones)
