Are you a mother of boys who often finds herself wanting to wave the white flag in defeat?
Do they drain you, overwhelm you, steal your heart, break your heart and cause you more anxiety than you ever dreamed possible?
Maybe you only have one boy amongst a sea of estrogen and you just can’t figure out how to respond to him in a way that affirms all that is good about his masculinity.
There are so many books out there today on the topic of parenting boys that I can’t count them. Nor do I have time to read them all. But even if I did, reading these books and putting the solid tools in them to work still doesn’t come with guarantees.
Knowing this, it becomes quite clear that there is only one thing we can do…
Plead with God.
Pray.
“The fervent prayers of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:17.
It’s our hope.
Passionately pursue the hearts of your sons, as you pray directly from the Word in the areas boys need prayer the most! Go deeper with study questions at the end of each main chapter, and learn more about taking the 21 Days of Prayer for Sons challenge. Perfect for your church group, Sunday school class, homegroup or Bible study!
"Raising boys who will become heroes for God’s kingdom is one of the greatest challenges a mother can face. Praying intentionally for our own sons is one of the best ways we can invest in their lives and is the means of seeing their hearts opened to the Lord, His word and His call on their lives. Brooke has written an insightful book that I found very captivating and applicable in raising godly young men by praying intentionally and powerfully for them in our own homes. This book provides mothers with inspiration, numerous verses to pray for each child and practical guidance for being purposeful in prayer. I highly recommend this book and know it will be a great tool for many moms."
~Sally Clarkson (of I Take Joy and author of The Mission of Motherhood)
This is a wonderful book of prayers. Convicting reminder of what should motivate the desisions I make while parenting Caleb. Made me cry a lot haha, purely out of desire for these prayers to become true for him.
This book has been life changing for me as a mom! Praying scripture for my son and my husband is amazing. It's a must read for moms with boys wanting to do all they can to raise a godly son!
found this great e-book through an online challenge to prayer for my boys every day for 21 days through the MOB Society. As I'm sure you could guess at this point, if you don't already know, I am a mom to two young boys. And I was having one of those days where the word no seemed like the only word I knew, and my nerves were raw. So just like most great moms of this generation, I went to the web - I mean isn't that what we all do??
It didn't take long to find the MOB's site, and it was full of encouraging posts. That was when I stubbled upon the 21 Days of Prayer challenge. And I figured why not? Prayer is powerful, and I needed something powerful to get me through. So I filled out an "I'm part of the challenge" comment, and marked my calendar.
Little did I know what a great journey I had just signed up for.
The game plan was easy, block out a small window of time to read the short, quick chapters in the book, and say the Bible verse prayers for each of my boys every day - I chose early mornings. Mind you what got me hooked was the short amount of time, because my days are chaos, so it is only possible to have small blocks of time for anything, especially quiet prayer.
Here is the key that made me know this was a challenge I had to take on:
The bottom line is this: our boys need strong parents now more than ever. We’re losing them; raising a generation of weak men. Oh, they think they’re strong. When they have degrees behind their names and lots of zeros in their salary. When they work hard and do well, play sports and drink beer. When they get a whole string of young girls pregnant or “make” their wives obey. I’ve seen it all in my line of work. You probably have too, whether or not you work outside the home. Young men who have no idea what it means to be a man are everywhere. (6)
And her answer to his issue shouldn't surprise you, she suggests prayer, specifically praying verses, for each boy you are raising.
As a new parent (of a boy) there are so many things to worry about. As a Christian (who would like to impart my faith on my son) there are ever more things that make me worry.
I found this book to be an great source of comfort and direction on how I can pray for my son. The biggest thing I took away from this book is that I am not in control. There is nothing I can do to force my son (or anyone) to be who I want them to be, except pray. This is something I already believe, but it was a good reminder nonetheless.
The book provides many prayers that are based on scripture to pray over your boys. I think the prayers are applicable to anyone and I have found peace in these prayers. Brooke also writes the blog, the MOB Society (mother of boys). She uses her site to encourage mothers of boys in their path to raising their children.
This is a very easy read, but oh, so very applicable if you are Mommy to son(s). There are so many areas where boys in today's culture can be attacked and sideswiped into worldly behavior. We parents need to rise up and commit to pray for God's finest and ultimate will for these young men of tomorrow. It's a battlefield I'm willing to enter, but only with the fortitude of God's backing and Scriptural prayers such as these.
While this book isn't for everyone, I would definitely recommend it for mom's of boys who like praying the Word over them. My favorite part of the book was the prayers based on the Bible geared for those wonderful, active boys in our lives; they were spot on. I know I will be referring to this book again for prayer for my son as he grows.
