Mildred Budge just retired from Teaching School. She was never married or had children of her own. Her life was very orderly. A man she realy cared for, but would not admit; whome recently asked her of her true affection, married another woman in the community. He recently died and after that she changed, having asked God for new meaning and adventrue in her life. God answered her prayers in various ways. She now became more hospitable, Meeting new neighbors, a little boy now open up to her and began to be the little boy with a future. She was now happy and some things that were once important wern't important any more. She was living and seeing God answer prayers. It was a good book

So absolutely delightful I found it hard to stop reading when I needed to do something else. I identified with Mildred. It was revealing for me. I can't wait to continue reading more books by Daphne Simpkins.

The story of Cloverdale begins with the mysterious death of a.man that she cared for at her church; however Mildred Budge had been too closed in her ways to let the relationship develop. This death triggers a series of events that allows Mildred to develop a series of relationships and expand her horizons. This book shows how faith affects relationships and build new beginnings. It also highlights some of the less savory characteristics in others but also finding the good in others. A nice piece of Christian fiction.

Do you have a Great Aunt that you get her name in the Christmas name-draw and you never know what to get her? This book is what you get her! The heroine is Ms. Budge and as you learn more about her, you get drawn into her world in such a gentle way that you almost don't notice it happening. Is there religion in this book? Yes. Is it preachy? No. Without adding spoilers, Ms. Budge's life is upended and she is a delight as she deals with the changes. There is nothing to offend anyone in this book and had I not won it in the Goodreads Giveaways, I likely would not have read it. I'm glad I won it. Thank you Goodreads Giveaways!
