Charlie was determined to make herself a successful lawyer. She was young and eager, but no pushover. That is until Conner Blackwell walked into her life again after six years. He shunned her back then, but now she was a beautiful young woman. She was independant and wanted a career, but she was no match for Conner's charm and what Conner wanted, he got.
I was having one of those days when I just couldn't settle on a book after several attempts I gave up and decided to do a re-read. I have a weakness for Lietha Wards books. Now I have to warn you if you've not come across her before her books are very similar, an older more experienced alpha male and usually an innocent young woman who falls instantly in love, they're not particularly well written and are riddled with mistakes. I know what you're thinking why read them at all then? There's something there, the characters always appealing and usually unforgettable and despite the faults they make entertaining reading. I've read all her books and re-read most of them some more times than I can remember just don't approach them with a critical eye. Connor Blackwell was twenty-five the first time he meets eighteen year old Charlie, Charlie is the beautiful confident grease smudged mechanic and she falls instantly in love with Connor but she's too young and their lives cross for only a day. Six years later their paths cross again this time Charlie is older and wiser and a lawyer but Connor is no less attractive and she has her work cut out trying to resist him. This is a Lietha read you can guess how it goes but it's a fun ride, I liked both these characters and it's a nice read.
A billionaire womanizing H (not serially as he may date more than one woman at a time!). Although he goes about it in a well-mannered and courteous way, cuz that’s how he’s been brought up! *eyeroll*
The h is that perfect-package character – beauty with brains along with a sense of humor, character, humility and what have you. A small town car mechanic turned Harvard educated lawyer. And a virgin to boot! Well, she has to be all that and more to rope in and hold on to the attention-deficient H!
They met 6 years ago when she was an 18 yrs. old car mechanic who repaired his car when it broke down in her hick town. Instant mutual attraction but he resists as he feels she’s too young and tells her to look him up in a few years.
And in the present they meet again (by chance) and he tries to get her to bed but she’s the reticent one now. She feels she would be just another complying female in a long line. But of course, she later relents. Ambushing a bad guy was easy for the H compared to another MU that occurs, but our guy is determined to get the girl for keeps.
Sweetish, short and formulaic. And an okay easy read. I much prefer LW’s cowboy books but then I’m not a billionaire H fan generally speaking.
Connor and Charlie. Pretty straight forward but well done harlequin style romance. Connor meets Charlie for the first time when she is only 18. She makes a big impression though. So much of a an impression, that 8 years later, when they meet again, he pretty much dives right in to a relationship. I was not crazy about Charlie still being a virgin while Connor slept through the entire city's collection of bimbos for the last 8 years. The 'big misunderstanding' was pretty contrived too. But my only big complaint is how nice Connor was to the OW after the stunt she pulled. All in all a satisfying little predictable read.
This book reminded me why I've been in love with Lietha Wards ever since reading The Cowboy And The Angel. The flow, writing style, characters, feel, and everything captivated me from the first page.
I loved Charlie's character. She has both the sweetness and determination of the usual Lietha Wards heroine. I liked that she's a genuinely nice woman, smart, dependent, strong, but can stand up for herself, know what she wants out of her life and in a relationship, and won't settle for anything less. And I absolutely loved Conner. He's the typical playboy that I drool over in books. He's hot, charming, possessive, witty, protective, and above all else, an Alpha male. The chemistry between these two was off the charts! I loved their banter, and some of the dialogue between them cracked me up and had me swooning. Although the sex scenes were not too descriptive, it was still freaking hot.
It was a heartwarming romance without any OTT drama. It's a kind of book that I could read over and over. I just wished that the epilogue was a little bit longer. I would really love to see them happily married with kids.
