Don't let this book's cringe-worthy, embarrasing cover hold you back - you have an ereader, right? Despite the illustration of "Fred" in all his leather glory, the contents of the book are a lot of fun.
Jay and Fred are a great couple! Jay is a semi-cool female guitarist, who's struggling to make a living and living in a low rent single apartment. I say "semi-cool", because although Jay is not cool enough for her bandmates and gets kicked out for not wanting to party, she's way too cool for her nerdy upstairs neighbor "Fred", with his stringy hair and thrift-store clothing. Fred, however, is really an intergalactic traffic cop, stationed to backwater Earth to watch for illegal aliens, literally, popping out of Jay's refridgerator, Ghostbusters style. I loved Jay and Fred as a couple. This could soo be a movie.
Having said all that, I was a little disappointed with the end of the book. As lovingly crafted as the first half of the book was, the last half felt rushed and too convenient. Still a good read, however, and recommended for futuristic romance readers.

Interstellar Lover
Stand-alone [to the best of my knowledge]
OK read, futuristic setting. The start was interesting, it seems the heroine lives in an apartment building where most on the apartments are actually portals to other worlds - sort of the alien version of Grand Central Station. She is one of the token Earth humans on site and her apartment is supposed to be alien-free. She's pretty shook up when the slug slimes its way out of her refrigerator and off to a neighboring apartment. It seems her 'normal' neighbors are actually the gatekeepers for their worlds. Fred - the apparent dweeb upstairs - is actually the 'traffic cop' for the area and gets worried when the weirdness escalates and he eventually whisks the heroine back to his world when bad things start to happen.
Jay is stunned when dweeb Fred turns into a leather wearing hottie. In fact she seems more stunned about that than the world he drags her off to - including a bar scene reminiscent of Star Wars, space ships, and finding out her boyfriend is an ex-assassin. Her 'this is so cool!' attitude got a little wearing.
This one wasn't up to the author's usual high standards - it felt like it might have been written a long time ago.

3.9 stars. Really liked it. If the end wasn't so rushed it would have been a 4.2 stars. Very funny and lovely.
