Pisces Phenomenon is book one in the Zodiac Gatekeepers series by Many M. Roth.

I’ve read Many M. Roth before and really enjoyed her work. The Zodiac Gatekeepers has potential, but it needs polishing, grammar and spelling fixes, and more of a plot.

I found the Gatekeepers interesting, but we don’t really learn much about them. I also found Phoebe, her sister and cousin interesting, but again we don’t learn about them and what makes them different/special.

The author does warn that the story contains adult content and we are greeted with it off the bat and we get a lot of it throughout the story. Now I enjoy steamy scenes, but also want a storyline as my main theme and that is not the case.

The characters are interesting and lovable, but again they’re not fully developed and their powers aren’t well explained. Maybe we get more in the second book, but the first book is meant to introduce you, explain things, set it up, and grab you making you want to read on. That didn’t happen for me.

Pisces Phenomenon wasn’t what I expected and It didn’t work for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

3 1/2 guilty pleasure, indulgent stars!

I liked it! It was short, but not too short to just be sex, but that is mostly what it is. The characters are likeable and they have some interesting extra abilities. Looks like an erotic series I will enjoy. Moving on to book 2. Happy reading!

Good adventure, action and romance. The story hangs together and is well written. Not quite enough story development for me but I enjoyed learning about Sirius and his group. I wanted to know more about Phoebe. Good book.

First of all, the author did warn that the story would contain very adult sexual content and language, so I did expect more than the usual of this. However, although I do love my paranormal stories to contain hot steamy scenes, I do also expect a storyline as the main theme in my books. There was a plot, kind of, in this one, well hidden sometimes behind the sex fantasies of the protagonists. The characters were lovable, but their powers not well explained, or how Phoebe got hers.
Maybe, as this seems to be a series, it's explained in one of the later books, but for me, there were a couple of gaps like this, not explained to my satisfaction (if explained at all), so on the whole I did not enjoy this book as much as I hoped to.
Add to that more overlooked spelling errors than I am comfortable with, and you know why I decided this was just ok.
Sorry, I know reviews are very personal, and I am sure there are a lot more readers out there who will love this book.

Pisces Phenomenon is for people who...

...like instant, undeniable attraction.
...enjoy a little psychic foreplay.
...dig solid worldbuilding.
...like seeing fierce immortal warriors fall hardcore into love.

I liked this one. It moves fast, but because of the psychic connection Phoebe and Sirius have shared for years it felt believable. I also liked the revelations at the end with Phoebe's sister. *thumbs up*

Great story line

This was a very good beginning to a new and unique content that brings together species from different spaces besides levels of magic or other means of protecting themselves and others from those who would kill or take what's not theirs. Getting the next book in this storyline.

Pisces Phenomenon is the first book in the Zodiac Alpha Gatekeepers series. This can be read as a standalone though it is clear from the ending that there is more to the story. This story is fairly short and contains a lot of sex. Not much of a storyline except for the sex. This story could have been so much better. I don't plan on reading any more of this series.

Short start to a series so not a lot of background.
Did like that Phoebe could look after herself.
Interesting storyline with likeable characters but the sex scenes were skimmed as I hate the C**T word.
I vaguely remember reading this before and I apparently have bought the box set in 2014.
Never mind. Read this time through Kindle Unlimited with a different cover.

I really enjoyed this book, although I don't normally read things that involve 'alien' type stories.

Maybe because that wasn't the main theme through the story. It was more about the fated mate, even if he wasn't 100% human. The only thing that stopped me giving it 5 stars was the continued use of the C word. A word I have a very strong dislike of.

The set up for this series is clever: all of the heroes are from another world, and are tasked with maintaining the balance, protecting the portals, and above all, watching over the humans.
Pisces Phenomenon: Book 1

Sirius is a detective frantically working to solve the Zodiac Zone Abductions: as a detective and a warrior from the Constellaziogēns he is sworn to protect the people of earth. Someone or some THING is disturbing the balance and taking women based on their birth signs. Will he be able to track down the next victim before it’s too late?

Phoebe is from a family with some supernatural ability, but she doesn’t understand the history. Her birth sign puts her as the next victim, about to be taken. When Sirius foils the abduction, she isn’t so sure that his rescue is a good thing. That instant bond and need to be with him is scary, and she doesn’t understand all of the feelings that she is experiencing.

For his part, Sirius instantly recognizes Phoebe as his destined mate: that bond led him to protect her, at all costs. From this point forward there is a cleverly plotted push-pull as Phoebe struggles with the insta-attraction and her fears about her own nature, let alone her confusion about Sirius.

And when she finally relents, the bond is even more than she ever could have imagined: scorching sex, insatiable need and utter contentment within his arms.

Somber Resplendence: Book 2

Sidney is also possessed of supernatural talents, but they have brought her little but foreshadowing of danger. To protect her sister and cousin from the renegades that will hunt them down, she has ‘given over’ to her knowledge and escaped to the relative security of a mental hospital. When her sister Phoebe meets her mate, another warrior, Aland, learns of Sidney’s existence. Unfortunately, the renegades also know where Sidney is, but to this point she has not been coerced into joining them.

Alaric is a partner and friend of Sirius. Both are detectives and are working to protect the world from the renegades of their species. With Phoebe safe, Alaric now understands that he must claim Sidney and remove her from the danger she is in, and take her from her self-imposed prison in the mental ward.

Sidney understands that her sister is safe from the dangers posed by the renegades with Sirius on her side. But years in the relative safety and known environment of the hospital have her anxious about what may come. Trading her life now, where she feels safe and confident in her ability to keep her cousin free from the renegades, she worries about what is to come on the outside, and what danger may befall her cousin. The whole issue of love / attraction and mating has not come close to entering her conscious thought yet. She still has yet to decide if Alaric is really one of the good guys, or if she will be subject to the pains inflicted by those who came before to entice her out as well.

For his part, all Alaric wants it to keep Sidney safe from harm, as he proves his love and devotion. Slowly he demonstrates his worthiness to her, and she gently relaxes in his company. When she finally releases her fear and trusts in him, the scene is electric and the sensuality and sexual adventures heat up your eReader.

I love Mandy M. Roth’s stories: they are steamy with characters that have traits that are good and bad, strong and weak, and they display them with aplomb. Stories with plenty of sex and steam leave the reader with lots of inspiration and moments to smile. With multiple unique worlds, dashing and daring heroes, clever heroines an always plenty of action they are perfect entertainment for a moment to get away.

I purchased a copy of this collection in eBook format for my own library. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Pisces PhenomenonMandy M. Roth

Reviewed by SFF Dragon

I love this book and have read it over and over again. I just really wish there were more books in this fantastic series. Please....

'Pisces Phenomenon' is the first book in the Zodiac Gatekeepers series by Mandy Roth and I originally bought it in April 2012. I've read it over and over again, and each time I get so engrossed in the story that I'm completely lost to the outside world until I finish it. I absolutely love this book, and when I got a newer copy from the author in exchange for an honest review, I was more than happy read it again.

I don't really want to give any spoilers, but the skeleton of the story on which all the juicy flesh is added is Immortal Detectives Sirius Baron and his partner Aland Werner are warriors from the world of Constellaziogen who, along with others of their kind, were sent to Earth centuries ago by their King to guard the portals between their world and ours against unauthorised use by rebels who're sick of waiting for fate to give them mates and have decided to take them, by force, from Earth. The rash of abductions near the Diamond District's portal, dubbed by the press as the 'Zodiac Zone Abductions', has them both on continuous full alert, but although exhausted, Sirius is always aware of his mate when her astral self visits him, just as she's always aware of him when he does the same. He doesn't know her name, or where she is, but he's known she's his true mate and they've been communicating telepathically all her life. Sadly, he thinks she's human and doesn't want to watch his mate grow old and die, so he's made no effort to meet her but Fate has a habit of intervening. It throws him when the next person the rebels go after is 'her'.

Pheobe Fisher, ballet dancer and waitress is used to the voice in her head, she's known him all her life. She also knows that she's not human and has a connection to the stars, but she doesn't know what it is until the rebel, Xipil, tries to kidnap her. Her father knew this was coming and she's been trained since birth to defend herself against being taken so he gets something of a shock when she fights back and manages to escape, running straight into Sirius and Aland.

I love this paranormal romance involving magical and immortal aliens. The characters and the romantic twist on the alien abduction theme are great. Although it's relatively short, Mandy always manages to pack so much information and story into her books that I always come away from them with a smile on my face and the feeling that I've read something longer. This book has everything you could possibly want in a paranormal sci-fi romance including humour, steamy bits, action with an ongoing background story, bad guys to fight, a HEA and absolutely no cliff-hangers. I loved this book so much when I first read it that I bought the second book 'Somber Resplendence' a month later and devoured that one too. I love the characters and storyline in this 'series' and have waited a long time in the hopes that the two existing books would become at least twelve, one for each star sign. Please....

**A gifted copy was provided by the author for my honest review**

Detective Sirius Baron is a special man that is more than just a detective—he is a gatekeeper for race of supernatural beings from another planet, Constellaziogen. He was sent to Earth centuries ago by their King to guard the portal between their world and Earth against unauthorized use by the rebels (evildoers) out to take mates from Earth by any means necessary. When we get into the story, we see Sirius investigating a rash of abductions near the Diamond District's portal, dubbed by the press as the 'Zodiac Zone Abductions. Sirius knows when his true mate is, he has been drawn to her since she was a little girl—problem is he has stayed away from her because she is human and didn’t want to burden her with what he is and can do. Which when you think of it, isn’t very fair but hey, he is a guy, albeit a paranormal one LOL. But they didn’t meet til alittle later on, there is somewhat of a backstory to how they really met ( see below)
Phoebe Fisher has heard a voice in her head nearly all her life. To her, it hasn’t been strange, but a comforting one almost all her life. Little did she know it really did belong to someone real- her true mate, Sirius. The thing is, she won’t tell him her name or WHERE she lives so he can actually find her. They have just communicated thru mental telepathy and he has asked her repeatedly to tell him her name and where she really is.. but trust is hard to come by to Phoebe. It all has to do with her sister- not giving away any of the backstory there but suffice to say, its sad and I feel so bad for her. When Sirius and Phoebe do connect, it is like fireworks and lighting all at the same time. WOW! The chemistry is instant and you can read it. Sirius is able to save Phoebe from being abducted and also she is able to prove him false about something he thought about her…food for thought here. This was a great start to the The Zodiac Gatekeepers series, book 1. There is plenty of action, fiery romance and paranormal voodoo goings on. You do not want to miss this. Phoebe and Sirius give this book fresh appeal—cannot wait for book 2.

Sirius belongs to a race of supernatural beings from another plain that inspired Earths concept of the constellations and astrology. He has been guarding the gateway between dimensions for centuries and waiting to find his true mate. Phoebe has been hearing a voice in her head since childhood and since turning 18 had interesting dreams to go along with that voice but she has no idea who it is or if they are even real. With strange abductions happening she should be more careful but still she ventures out alone and is almost kidnapped. The voice in her head begs her to call him to her and she does as it become apparent that she is not going to be able to handle the attacker alone. Sirius makes it just in time but she refuses to believe he is one and the same voice; although she knows in the back of her head he is; he is pretty sure but her refusal throws him off. But the attraction is hard to refute on both sides! Friends turn out to be more than expected as the truth of who both Sirius is to Phoebe and also who mutual acquaintances are to them and each other. There is a long standing prophecy, an old opposition, and a very special group of women (many being abducted) that need saving, and of course some hot hunky heroes to do the saving involved in this great story! I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pisces Phenomenon :) LOVED IT, April 18, 2015
By Melissa (Celina, OH, United States)
This review is from: Pisces Phenomenon (Paranormal Romance) (Zodiac Gatekeepers Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
Phoebe Fisher, dancer, a Pisces and knows that her family is not entirely human. Her family fears warriors from another realm coming for them and they taught her to take care of herself. She can see visions and has a friend that she hears in her head.

Sirius Baron, detective and gatekeeper. He was chosen to be a gatekeeper for the Zodiac's between his world and earth. Sirius is the voice that Phoebe has heard in her head her entire life. She has kept him away until recently when she was attacked by someone from his home world.

There have been a series of kidnappings and disappearances among the humans. They call it the Zodiac Zone, women are disappearing. It comes to light that men from Sirius's realm, not wanting to wait for their true mates, are coming to earth and taking these women as their own. Women they know are true mates for others from their home world. They have made a mistake in trying to take Phoebe. It is hot and steamy. Even before they meet Sirius and Phoebe have amazing chemistry.

Sirius Baron, detective and hunk of jaw dropping proportions. He is no ordinary detective, he is from another world and was chosen to be a gatekeeper for the Zodiac's between his world and earth. Sirius has had a special bond with a female since she was a young child, but the relationship changed when she became an adult. They began to share erotic thoughts and caresses but always disconnect before much can happen, due to the amount of energy needed to connect them.

Phoebe Fisher, dancer has been trying to live a normal life. but her family had some weird thoughts about people dropping from the sky and they taught her to take care of herself. She has never met the "invisible friend" she connects with but until she tells him her name and where she is, he won't be able to find her.

Sirius knows she is he's mate. He need and wants to protect her so when danger comes calling, she finally reaches out to him. There are a few false starts and misdirections but things began to heat up and the truth to why and what they are come to life .

My only quibble was it wasn't long enough and I really want to read the rest of this series ASAP!!!

I actually enjoyed this book. It was different. Its a sci-fi erotic type book and very yummy! There is a lot of sex in it or I should say sex and lots of teasing lol. There was a great story behind it as well. The sex part might have overshadowed the story a little. Not a bad thing but hey.

Phoebe is a bit different and she knows this deep down but something keeps her from acknowledging it. She's drawn to this "dream man" and feels a deep connection to him. It leaves her really confused until she calls to him and reveals her name. Sirius is an immortal being....Gatekeeper is the term. He works as a Detective and has a deep connection to his mate, but cant go to her until she accepts him. He's always been with her and he's quite old literally but looks way younger. :) They come into contact when she gets into some trouble. Its like sparks ignite and wham they are soo hot for each other. He tries to stay away because he thinks she's human and eventually she'll die and thats why at first he wont claim her. I cant say everything but its a good story. I recommend it.

Detective Sirius Baron is from a world full of magik, power and legends. He is one of the warriors sworn to protect Earth and the portal to his home realm. Sirius is desperately trying to solve a recent spree of women being abducted based on their birth sign that the humans are calling the "Zodiac Zone" abductions. He is on the hunt for the perpetrator when he realises the final woman has not been taken. Sirius also realise it is the woman he has a deep connection with and must protect her at all costs.

Phoebe Fisher has always been different. She knows her and her family have special abilities but she isn't sure why or to what extent. When Phoebe comes face to face with the person responsible for the recent abductions it is Sirius who rescues her.

When Sirius rescues Phoebe the bond is instant and Phoebe is unsure how to deal with these scorching feeling. When she comes to terms with special connection with Sirius she will find a love and a feeling of belonging deeper than she has ever felt.

Be sure to also pick up book 2 of the Zodiac Gatekeepers Somber Resplendence

Gatekeeper Simon Baron knows nothing of his mate beyond the ghosted touch of her body and mind... not even her name. Phoebe Fisher has heard voices most of her life... one voice in particular to be exact. A direct threat to Phoebe brings the fated pair together but will they reach out to each other or, out of stubbornness, let Destiny slip away.

This first entry into the Zodiac Gatekeepers universe is a tidy little story to whet the appetite. The main characters are on par with what one would expect for the genre with neither particularly standing out. I would consider it well-written if not a bit formulaic so it lends itself to being a solid paranormal "fix" for those who are into the Warrior Guardian storyline. The book is short and at times reads almost too fast, possibly to its detriment. A lengthier story would probably have given it more flesh and bones and lifted it up to the next level.

This was a really quick read and a good introduction to Mandy Roth's new Zodiac series. I enjoyed the telepathic play between the two main characters...especially since Phoebe really thinks that Sirius is really just in her head. It was truly funny to see how she reacts once she realized that he is real and right there with her. The only thing I did not enjoy about this book was that Sirius was going to walk away from his 'true mate' because he thought she was just 'human' and not immortal like he was. It did not seem right that he was not even going to give his mate a chance, and even though Phoebe did not immediately realize that he was real it did not seem like it would be fair to her to not even have a say in this. I did enjoy the storyline enough that I will be interested in the next book in the series and finding out just how far Phoebe's sister went to protect her and her cousin....without them knowing and what will happen when her mate finds her!

I really enjoyed this story by Ms. Roth. Both Phoebe and Sirius are strong characters. Phoebe has heard a voice in her head nearly all her life. Little did she know the voice belonged to an actually person. Sirius has been a part of his mates life for a large part of his and most of hers. The only problem he doesn't know who she is, and she won't give him her name to help him find her. When they finally make that connection, it is under less than ideal circumstances. Sirius is determined to convince Phoebe to trust him. But Phoebe isn't ready to let her "crazy" free. I loved the how well Ms. Roth set out their story and gave it a resolution that made sense. She gave us action and emotion in a few words. The story was a quick read but I didn't feel shortchanged. In fact I was ready to read if Phoebe's cousin and sister would find a cosmic connection! This is a wonderful read and well worth your time and money.
