An invaluable reference on candle magic for beginners as well as experienced magic practitioners.
Jacki Smith has been crafting magic candles for more than twenty-five years. In Coventry Magic with Candles, Oils, and Herbs , she shares recipes, spells, and divinations anyone can use to increase love, prosperity, luck, and abundance.
Often, when doing magic to help solve a problem, Jacki writes, we don’t realize the source of the issue we’re facing. Jacki Smith uses the humor of her own life experiences to show readers how to ferret out the underlying issues and beliefs that can often sabotage magical spells.
Coventry Magic with Candles, Oils, and Herbs is an invaluable reference for beginners as well as experienced magic practitioners. The book
This book left me confused... I cannot even decide how many stars to give. There were many ideas and thoughts that really gave me a new perspective on things. I made many notes and re-read some parts, the "why" factor is one of them. So I am grateful I read this one. But... it is rather confusing, the whole structure of the book, the amount of information, the jumping from one thing to another, then coming back. At some point, I realized I don´t longer know what I am reading about. I really missed some structure. Organization of the text was confusing. So I´d say the book is full of wisdom and information but for me personally it was too much. This could easily be two or three books instead.
Repetitive and at times use of similes becomes so laboured it looses spontaneity. Clearly linked to desire to spruik her own wares - which is fine, but makes this extremely limited and inconsistent a reference for more experienced practitioners. For those who need more elaboration there are better texts they're capable of sourcing and using; I for one see where Smith is aiming at most of the time... but I remain unconvinced she has the same clarity which is easily obtained with a little self reflection.
I know Jacki. I go to her shop and I've attended her classes. When I heard she was writing a book I was thrilled. And when I got my hot little hands on a signed copy I dug right in and enjoyed every page. Jacki has a way of writing that draws in the reader and makes you feel as if you're just having a conversation with a good friend. She is candid about her life experiences which she uses as examples for some of the concepts she describes. This is NOT a spell book. Rather its a how-to-do a spell book. She takes you through the whole process from refining what the actual purpose of your spell is down to the components and method of casting the spell. If you're into candle magic, or into any type of magic, buy this book. Simply put...it is a book not to be missed.
This is a very good book for those who are really interested in making their spells happen. Jacki Smith really goes behind your magic to find out what really makes your magic happen or fail. She raises some questions that make you think about yourself and why you are casting your spell. There are reasons why spells succeed and fail and this book really helps the reader, with the help with meditations and an appendix in the back to help you with your spell work. I would recommend this book for people who are either interested in candle magick or just magick.
A decent introduction to candle magic. Her style of writing is enjoyable to a point, but at times her reactions to certain things become repetitive and grating. Some of her ideas have given me some things to think about, which is a good thing indeed! The only thing that really nagged at me was her constant plugging of her products. I can understand her desire to do it but there are other ways to do so.
I've read a lot of books on candle magic, but this one is the best. Very informative and laid out in easy to follow lists of candle colors, essential oils, types of crystals to inhabited your spells, and there's even a section on incorporating Tarot cards into your rituals. An informative but highly entertaining book.
