About the author

Francesca Simon grew up in California and attended both Yale and Oxford Universities, where she specialised in Medieval Studies. How this prepared her to write children’s books she cannot imagine, but it did give her a thorough grounding in alliteration.

She then threw away a lucrative career as a medievalist and worked as a freelance journalist, writing for the Sunday Times, Guardian, Mail on Sunday, Telegraph, and Vogue (US). After her son Joshua was born in 1989, she started writing children’s books full time. One of the UK’s best-selling children’s writers, Francesca has published over 50 books, including the immensely popular HORRID HENRY series, which has now sold over twelve million copies.

Francesca won the Children’s Book of the Year in 2008 at the British Book Awards for Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman. HORRID HENRY is published in 24 countries and is also an animated CITV series. She lives in London with her husband, son, and Tibetan Spaniel, Shanti.

Horrid Henry is and was my childhood and will forever be, even if this read opened up my eyes to just how truly Horrid he was. For the first time, I sympathised with his poor parents and his little cherubic brother Peter, but that didn't take away from the adorable antics he gets up to. One only emoji for that truly Bogey Babysitter... the middle finger emoji.

This is one of the series of books of Horrid Henry by Francesca Simon.
I have notices throughout my last two placements in year three and four that the boys in these classes have particularly enjoyed these books. Those interested seemed to be all eager to begin and finish the book quite quickly and because of this eagerness they found it quite difficult to leave down the book they were reading, this I believe is great to see at such a young reading age.
This book is quite a short book with big writing. It is suitable for confident readers in Key Stage 2. This book can be particularly disgusting in certain scenes which children reading it find very comical. The language is very expressive throughout the book which helps set each scene of the story throughout the book.
I would recommend this book for guided reading and to inspire bug writing with Key Stage two children.

I read it to the boys yesterday and today and they just loved it - one of the few times they actually sit still for a long time and listen or play quietly with their lego and listen at the same time. A nice change from their constant fighting. My twins are 6 1/2 years old and like how Horrid Henry talks, the tricks he's up to and how naughty he is - how they would like to be but know better!!

Something I love is that when they turned these books into cartoon they were spot on. Simply perfect and I loved them- I was so addicted to them I watched 3 hours of them in one go!

hi everyone. this horrid henry book was ok. I read this in about 1hr and 30 minutes and it is good but just needs to step up a bit more. if your child is reading the book at the age of 7-8 then they will struggle because in horrid henry books, there are a lot of blank pages. so it is really hard to understand. but if there was more pictures, that would be absolutely amazing.

This is quite a childish book , it doesn’t have very good character description and it doesn’t get into detail it’s just a simple story that includes many other short stories about what horrid Henry gets up to.

Has Henry finally met his match?? It sure seems like it... another great introduction to chapter books for younger readers (6-9). Full of funny illustrations to keep interest high, this is sure to become a favourite in my classroom library.
