About the author

Luis Augusto Rebelo da Silva (Lisbon, 1822-1871 ) was a journalist, historian, novelist and political Portuguese, active contributor to multiple journals and member of the intellectual gatherings and Lisbon policies of the last half of 19th century . He was one of the first teachers of the Higher Course of Letters , founded in 1859 by D. Pedro V , teaching the subject of History.

He was the father of Luís António Rebelo da Silva, scientist and professor of Agronomy, who succeeded him in the Câmara dos Pares.
