Magic Unchained's leading pair, Cara and Sven have a lot of history and some interesting events in the way of their HEA in Jessica Andersen's latest Nightkeepers series which centers on the countdown to Mayan 2012 doomsday. In addition to the obvious challenges: he's a Nightkeeper warrior mage and she's a Winikin who was supposed to be his servant – which is a forbidden pairing - Sven's also a commitment phobic lone wolf and Cara has major abandonment issues.

This time around the seriously undermanned Nightkeepers are trying to bring the Winikins into the end of days battle as warriors instead of helpers and Cara who is leading the Winikins seems to be key to achieving the Nightkeepers' newest cardinal day task of trying to find an artifact to resurrect the First Father who will hopefully perform some miracle to bolster their numbers or their magic and give our good guys a fighting chance in the final battle.

Magic Unchained ended up being one of the best books in the series so far, there were some great things that happened in the story - some telegraphed and some complete surprises - and some great steamy stuff between Cara and Sven, plus some serious setup for the final Nightkeepers book which will have Rabbit in the lead. So I really enjoyed Magic Unchained and I can't believe that there is only one more book to go before the series wraps up in November 2012 – just before the Mayan December 2012 end date – with Spellfire which is also supposed to also have some closure for Anna (who no longer is going to have her own book.) I can't wait see how Rabbit's dual heritage allows him to help the Nightkeepers to save the world after watching him grow up from the messed up hotheaded teen he started out being at the start of the series.

Can't believe I've got to wait until November to finish this series. It has been a hell of a ride and I don't want it to end.
Sven and Cara are a really great couple and they finally overcame their problems. There were some hints about the next and final book which I found pretty obvious but I do hope Rabbit's book will be overwhelming and mind-blowing. Right now I'm only wishing that Myrinne turns out to be the best person in the world because or the author does something so I can really like her or I'll be very very disappointed with the whole book/series.
But, well I've got time to sort everything out.
Jessica Andersen has been doing great until now and I've got to say that her series is one of my all-time favourites and I doubt she will blow everything with Spellfire.
And now, I'm anxious to know how things are going to end up.
Another huge success and a must-read.

I was extremely afraid beginning this book that things were going to move slowly... boy was i wrong.

This story was fast paced, with lots of action, awe-inspiring plot twists and passion and love finally embraced.

With less than four months until the end-date, Nightkeepers and Winikin must overcome their differences and deal with each other as they are humanity's last hope to make it to the next cycle. Cara works to prove that she has earned the right to lead her people and that everyone on the team is, if not equal, able to bring something valuable to the cause.

Sven and Cara must learn to embrace their differences-and similarities- in order to lead the Winikin in the battle for their lives. Trusting their own judgement and each others, because sometimes the best choice is to let the chips fall where they may and handle the fallout.

Sven and Cara have been favorite characters of mine since book one and I'm glad to see they both finally accepted the inevitability of their relationship. I love how the characters can see what's right in front of them but still come to the wrong conclusions until all of a sudden a light bulb turns on and they realize what they've been seeing all along was the answer to their problems. :)

The heat between the characters-once they stopped hiding- was intense and hit flash point quickly. We learn a bit more about their pasts while they cope with their present, and share their dreams for the future. I will say the glimpses i got of the other characters was interesting as well, but i'm still not sure how i feel about the changes in leadership of the Nightkeepers from the previous book. I missed seeing Strike and Leah. But i imagine in the final battle we will see a lot more of all the Nightkeepers, the Winikin and the gods as well.

I can't wait to read Rabbit's book in Nov. Those first chapters should be very interesting. :)

I knew very early into the series that I would like the book about Sven (The Coyote) and Cara (well because how cool a name is that :-)). I was not disappointed and this is the highest rating I have given a book in the series. With one book to go, I am actually starting to get excited about how it is all going to end.

Up until now, my biggest gripe with this series was the extensive lore. The book is set around the Mayan prophecy for the 2012 doomsday and is VERY heavy in Mayan lore and the names of hundreds of Gods. Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad thing. It is nice to read a book that just hasn't glossed over the setting and focused 100% on the characters. However, the lore in the previous books was quite heavy and rather confusing. There is a balance and I think with this book, Doc Jess is finally getting (closer) to mastering that balance.

This is easily my favourite book in the series (even though the final battle scene is still rather confusing). Up until now I was reading just to say I had finished the series. After this book though i am starting to think that Doc Jess and I could become good long-term reading buddies if she can maintain this balance between lore and story. Bring on the final book!

One of my favorite paranormal series is Jessica Andersen’s Novels of the Final Prophecy. It’s an incredible series about the world coming to an end on December 21 2012. If you’re keeping count there are only several more months before that happens - unless a group of modern day warriors called Nightkeepers can wield their magic and find a way to save the world from complete annihilation.

Magic Unchained had some new twists, new surprises and new resolutions. But with only one more book left in the series and the good guys sorely outnumbered the tension is mounting to a fevered pitch and each new reveal is electrifying. Ms. Andersen is weaving a web where good versus evil is at the heart of the conflict and the climax should be explosive.

Jessica Andersen ROCKS the Mayan prophecy!! She has created a fantastic story based on the 2012 Mayan Calendar.. Magic Unchained is the seventh book in her Final Prophecy Series and Since this is what I like to call a climactic series, Doc Jess has her work cut out for her.. in each book she must raise the pressure on the overall story arc. She must increase the tension and take us closer and closer to the edge making us believe both that the world is doomed and that hope is there. What can I say, Doc Jess does not disappoint!

One of the things about this series, is the depth of feelings and the intensity in which it was written. When I first picked up Nightkeepers, I liked the concept. I was intrigued, then I opened the book. It was a slow start.. I would read a bit then think about it, then read some more.. gradually it sucked me in. When I finished the book, I opened my eyes and felt like I had been in a different world, it was an almost drugged feeling and every book Doc Jess has written in this series has that same pull.. Magic Unchained not the least of them.

I had a hard time writing this review not because I didn’t love the book but rather because it is so very much more than boy meets girl romance.. While the story between Cara and Sven is wonderful and I will address that there was just so much going on. Anna receives a vision, being that she was never completely trained she has to work hard on just deciphering it. She finally realizes that the team must bring back the father.. Throughout the book the Nightkeepers goal is to resurrect the First Father.. This is the main task of this book of course no way would Doc Jess allow for just one story line..

The Winikin are determined to fight on their own, fight for themselves not as indentured servants to the Nightkeepers but as relevant individuals in the fight. To this end, battle games are played and Cara has to learn how to make life and death decisions. To understand when to accept a death and when to fight for life. She is not just fighting to get the Winikin their rights but she is also fighting the “traditionalists” who insist that the old ways are the only ways. Her biggest opponent is her own father, whom I happen to think is a complete and total sleazebag to her. Total and complete lack of support and yet he all but dotes on Sven... his NightKeeper.. Yeah I hate when parents refuse to see the value in their children.. I understand the importance in the story line yet, I can never like those characters.. On top of trying to bring the Winikin into the battle, to lead them as best she can, her second in command has decided that they should pair up. So now Cara has to deal with wanting something she can’t have, having something she doesn’t want and of course a father who supports her staying in indentureland both in the way she fights the battle and the way she finds love.

Sven is the eternal lone wolf.. ok Coyote, destined to run free. He left the safety of Carlos’ ranch at an early age, partially to escape unwanted feelings for Cara and partially because he needed to roam. He has finally stepped up in the NightKeeper world and has become an integral part of the team but one thing remains the same. He still wants Cara, well he wants Cara AND he wants to roam.. He has no clue how to be more than he is and isn’t sure that he should. A Winikin and a Nightkeeper just can’t be. It is taboo in the biggest sense of the word. Sven has never been my favorite character because he always seems the most selfish. The one who puts me first. And yet he is determined to become the man he should be. To step it up for Cara.. to be there at her side. Throughout the book, he is constantly tested and tempted and has to learn how to make the right choice. It is a very intense inner battle. Obviously, I can’t tell you more because it is such an integral part of the story.

While Cara, Sven and the rest of the Nightkeeper compound are doing their best to deal with issue after issues.. Rabbit is fighting his own inner battle. Honestly, this poor kid. The only thing consistent about him is the fact that once he acts, it will probably be the wrong act. He has the heart of a champion and the self esteem of a peanut.. He is so determined to prove to them all that he has self worth.. Grrrr I seriously hate Red Boar and what that horrid, horrid man did to his son while raising him. This child needed love.. but Red Boar the self pitying scuzz ball had to worry about how his life had been destroyed instead of dealing with the gift he had been given. I am seriously hoping that when Rabbit saves the world (and I seriously hope it is Rabbit who does it) that he can in your face Red Boar.. either literally or metaphorically I don’t care.. I just want Rabbit to be able to do the right thing and be acknowledged as the amazing young man he is.

I know, this review was not in my normal style, that I discussed characters not in action and I rambled a bit more than usual. I needed to do so. To write a simple review on such an intense book would be almost criminal. I love this series. It has intrigued me since I saw it on Amazon and thought the concept was just fantastic!! November can’t come soon enough! And Doc Jess was gracious enough to get the book out with plenty of time to read before Dec 21.. Just in case the NightKeepers fail..

People you only have a few more guaranteed months to read this series!! If the Nightkeepers loose you will regret not having taken the time to get these books read (yep, that is what you are going to worry about).. Seriously, this is a must read series..

Cara has loved Sven for years but he was a rolling stone, never settling in one place too long. Sven shared her feelings but never felt like he deserved her love. And as the battle at the end of times comes racing closer, Cara and Sven find themselves working closer together and having a harder time hiding their feelings. Trying to plan for the best way to survive, trust between Nightkeepers and winkin are at an all time low. It's up to Cara and Sven to put their feeling aside and bring the two factions together. Because without each other there's no way they'll make it to December. A great story to propel the reader to the final countdown and battle for the salvation of the world Excited to see where the story goes from here!

T-minus 3 months & 11 days to doomsday.

Winikin triangle: Cara & Sven or Cara & Zane? As the new leader of the winikin, Cara needs to keep on focus for the days ahead giving her no time for relationship problems. And in a very shocking way, Rabbit gets both important info on his family history and painful relationship trouble.

Footnote: 1) Amazing how Sven knew what sizes and style to get for Cara, let alone volunteer to buy all the clothes for them.

Fave scenes: Rabbit & his mother, the cave rescue, Cara & Sven’s confrontation with Zane and the shadow creatures.

similar concept to previous installments but the romance followed the 'forbidden love/stepsibling' trope and personally I'm not about that so it rated lower.

Cara is now the leader of the Winikin, and that is not an easy job. She brought them in, the ones that ran away from the massacre, the ones that lost their families. They don’t really want to work as servants for the Nightkeepers, and certainly not be used as cannon fodder. But Dez, the new King, also has new ideas, and he needs them to fight alongside the Nightkeepers. Still, there are a lot of disgruntled winikin, and Cara has a hard time leading them. Especially since she has a long history with Sven, who was sort of a foster brother for her, all her life. She had a big crush on him as a teenager, but the one thing that Sven has always been good at, was running away. Now he can blame it on his heritage as a Coyote, the need to roam the world, the lack of commitment in his life. The attraction goes both ways, but Cara deserves someone who will have her back, be there for her, take care of her, and he knows he can never be that guy. He just is incapable of staying in one place for a long time. His coyote familiar Max also likes Cara, and he uses him to guard her in secret.

Which is a very good thing, as Cara is abducted by her second in command, whom she has turned down repeatedly as a potential lover, and now wants to make her a sacrifice to the gods, to get his own magic. Cara is saved in the nick of time by Sven, and together they share an important vision and some sex magic to get free again. It has to be a one time thing, or Cara will lose the trust of the other winikin. Her own father doesn’t want her to be with Sven, it is against the writs, a Nightkeeper and a winikin! But there is a connection between them, and it is more than the winikin-master bond.

The guilty winikin have to be punished, but Cara does not want them to be killed, that will only aggravate the other dissident winikin. She wants Rabbit to mind bend them, and send them back to their previous lives.

When Dez sends Sven and Cara after an important artefact necessary for the upcoming equinox and ceremony, they work well together, and enjoy some private time on the water. But when they have to work some magic, things go totally wrong, and no one understands what is happening. Sven tries to make a commitment to Cara, but it soon chafes on him, and he just wants to roam again. Cara has lost her heart to the man Sven has become, and she is truly heartbroken, again. How will they solve this?

Even with book seven, this series is still going strong and keeps surprising me with its twists.

I really loved the story of Cara and Sven, and of course had an inkling about their past before. But it was nice to have some more background story, and have the bond between them come to life. I really enjoyed the twists in this. I think I really dislike Carlos now, he is so stony and rigid and cold, without any love for his daughter or the boy he raised.
There is also a big setup for the next book, which will be about Rabbit, and I cannot wait to dive into it! And with this review written, nothing is stopping me. Bad things keep happening to him and his lady love, and with the totally unexpected appearance in the end of the book, I have no idea what is going to happen next.

Cara is a hardass, but also a very caring woman, and that is aside from her being half winikin. She has had to deal with a cold and distant father, and Sven who was never around when she needed him most. So she has learned to depend on herself alone, and make a life for herself. Until the Nightkeepers needed her again, and she had to come back. And now she is trying to do her best, and promises herself freedom if they survive the coming months.
Sven has changed a lot too, from being a beach bum to a warrior, and even more when he bonded with his coyote. He has honoured Carlos’ wishes to stay away from Cara all those years, but now he finds out it has never been about Cara, just him being a Nightkeeper, and she not. The attraction between them may be the will of the Gods, but the both have free will, and they decide to live in the moment for those perhaps last three months. And after, they will see what happens.

I liked the fact that Anna is really trying to help the Nightkeepers again, but she has to heal some more on the inside. Not much news on the previous couples, which I regret. They were hardly mentioned, with the exception of Brand and Patience who were fighting with the winikin while the others were holding the ceremony.

But now it is down to three months before December 21, 2012 … and I really want to know the ending to this saga. It has been an awesome journey so far, and even though the date has passed, this series keeps me glued to the pages.

9 stars.

Magic Unchained is the 7th book in Jess Andersen’s Nightkeepers (Final Prophecy) series. Magic Unchained belongs to Cara and Sven, and we have been waiting for their story almost from the beginning. I had mixed feelings going into this book, since Cara, who so wanted to be a full Nightkeeper, and hated being a Winikin (a servant to the Nightkeepers), was hardly around throughout this series, until near the end of the last book. Sven, a coyote Nightkeeper, has been with us, but somewhat distant, but I loved when Mac, his coyote familiar became part of the story. Because of their history, her hidden love of Sven, and the fact that a Mage and Winikin pairing is forbidden, I wasn’t sure that this would ever work, and of course I was so wrong. As Andersen usually does, she makes it work, and boy does she.

I loved Cara from the start….loved her strength, determination to lead the winikins, her vulnerability; and her ability fight off her love of Sven. Cara knew it was lost cause, as he did not feel the same for her, and he was never there for her. At first, I was not too crazy about Sven, and his insistence to ignore his feelings for Cara, and always running away. But when he opens himself up, that totally changes and I ended up loving him. Wow…their first mating was awesome. I have always said, Andersen has a wonderful personal touch to her steamy sex scenes, and that was hot. I also loved loved Mac, and his ability to mind talk to Sven, and even to Cara. A very nice touch.

Dez is back, as he is the King, and it is only a short time to equinox. The Nightkeepers need help to fight their battle against the demons. Dez enlists Sven’s help to bring in the Winikins into their battle as warriors instead of servants to the magi, as he wants Sven to work with Cara. Cara, who is the Winikins leader, must bring them together to help, but there is dissention within her group, as the bond between the Nightkeepers and Winikin has been split, with much anger. It is a betrayal within the Winikins that brings Cara and Sven together, and upsets the balance that needs mending, in order for all to survive. With the end of days near, they must all work together to have any chance to win this war, and save the world. The question is can Sven stop running away, face up to his love for Cara, and can Cara forgive Sven….all this besides fighting together to beats the demons they have to face.
.
Magic Unchained was an exciting story from start to finish. So much action, wheter it was with the Winkins, the demons, the adventure to steal the artifact necessary for them to win the war, and the equinox battle. But the romance between Cara and Sven was wonderful, and frustrating at the same time. Everytime you think ..thank god..they are finally together, then something else happens. But their chemistry together, their sexual scenes were always steamy, and they so belonged together.

It was nice to see Dez and Reese, and Rabbit had a big story in this book, which is leading up to the finale….the end of days is almost here. I felt though that even if we saw some of the others, it wasn’t like the other books, where they did play a bigger part in the stories. Hopefully, in the finale, we will get to see them all more. Rabbit and Myrienne will be the main characters in Jess Andersen’s Spellfire coming in November, 2012. Anna will also get her closure in that book. I made a prediction in my first review of this series that I will not repeat...no spoilers. I did not want to see this…I feared this would happen, and now with that spoiler at the end…I am sure it’s going to happen.

Once again, Andersen does a fantastic job in keeping this series fresh, and heading to an exciting finish. Magic Unchained had a wild and climatic ending, with a big surprise twist. On to Spellfire, and the finale of Nightkeepers in November. I will miss them all. But having loved this series, and love love Jess Andersen’s writing..I will follow her next series that she is working on.

Ok. As much as I wanted to give this 5 stars, I really can't say it was amazing - mainly because for the first 3/4 of the book I really wasn't a fan of Cara. Other than that, I think it was worthy of the 5 star rating - so let's go with 4.5 stars. Here's the why's (without spoilers):

I really liked Sven. He is real in a way that so many other keadingn guys aren't. He isn't all stuck on himself and his abilities, ut he isn't down on himself either. He knows that he hasn't been good aboout staying in one place and being reliable - especially for Cara - and that has him convinced that he isn't worthy of Cara because he doesn't have the "staying power" she deserves. He sees her for what she is and knows she has so much more in her than she herself recognizes - and he not only supports it, he encourages it. He isn't an overthe top alpha, but he is still alpha material. His actions are tempered by his nature and his need to roam. He fianlly realizes what the urges he fells through out the book are (and if I say ANYTHING else it would be a spoiler) and - natch - everything works out...with at least 2 unexpected turns (ok, one could be guessed at if you are paying very close attention, but the other is a stunner)... at the end of the book. What Sven does at the end is above and beyond and makes him a hero like few others have been (at least for me).

Cara wasn't so much a whinner or an obsinate overthe top heroine as she was annoying and unable to see any other opinion or thought pattern other than the one she had predetermined as right before this story began. She refuses to see the good (or bad in a few cases - again, spoiler if I say more) in anyone or any situation until it has been shoved down her throat - usually repeatedly - and there is just no way to not see it any more. Example (and this is nt really a spoiler, but is a small tip off): Cara goes along with a plan made by Dez, Sven, and a few other Night Keepers after something happens to her - and it goes all wrong. She decides after fact that she should have know better, should have insisted it be done differently, and has convinced herself it was really a power play by Dez to remind the winikin that they could make their own decisions as long as they remembered that he was allowing it. She isn't right in that assessment, but she can't get over her "I must be loyal to the winikin mo matter what or they won't like & accept me" thought pattern...and it gets almost as annoying as her conviction that no matter what Sven does or says, he is unreliable in the long term and it will never work out between them.

For the story - awesome! Doc Jess managed to get several surprises into the book. In several cases (as is her way) they are perfectly clear in retrospect (isn't hindsight always 20/20?). But they were not what I expected and, just for a change, the ending and resolution of the romance was not what you are expecting. It was an HEA, but the fina comments point out that they are still working through Sven's need to roam, Cara's need to be her own person, and the fact that neither of them has ever been in a relationship so they are taking it one day at a time - but they are doing it together and are happy with it. I really like the twists and turns and the unexpected happenings in the story and I am excited for the next book. Overall, I highly recommend the book.

Magic Unchained
3.5 Stars

As the end date approaches, the Nightkeepers and the Winikin must join forces to fight those who would bring about hell on earth. Unfortunately, the conflicts between the two groups threaten to undermine their efforts. Winikin leader, Cara Liu, is caught between her loyalty to her fellow fighters and her love for Nightkeeper, Coyote ‘Sven’ Seven, the only man she has always wanted but never been allowed to have.

The world building and research into Mayan lore in this penultimate installment of Andersen’s Final Prophecy series is excellent as always. Unfortunately, Cara and Sven’s romance, which I had eagerly been awaiting since the first book, isn’t as captivating as it could have been.

Cara and Sven’s chemistry is good, but their personal conflict overshadows the challenges posed by the factions that actively conspire against the Nightkeepers. They are constantly coming together only to push each other away out of wariness, distrust and fear. It takes too long for them to get over their angst and work together.

That said, there are some truly excellent moments when the Winikin and the Nightkeepers demonstrate exactly why they are the groups chosen to protect humanity against the demons that threaten the world. And there is a very interesting twist at the end, which should make the next book very exciting.

There are also developments in Rabbit and Myrinne’s relationship as their book is the finale of the series. While Rabbit with his morally ambiguous abilities and tortured relationship with his father has always been a favorite of mine, Myrinne has never appealed to me as a heroine. Consequently, I’m conflicted about reading their book and am not getting my hopes up too high. Only time will tell…

Warning: Slight Plot Spoilage Below
I always love Andersen's Mayan Doomsday series, but this one seemed like a quick patch-work of sketchy writing. I was looking forward to the emotional whirlwind of romance and heartache that usually follows her characters around. From hints from previous novels I thought Sven and Cara's fight would be more epic. I always had a soft spot for Cara and Sven's doomed-from-the-beginning romance, but it was definitely lackluster in this one. I expected them to overcome huge obstacles like the other characters, but it just didn't happen.
The novel started easily enough with Cara attending a funeral (warrior style) with the other wininkin and Mayan Magi. They're attacked and the group quickly realizes there's a traitor among them. Cara and Sven end up hooking up due to a belief in the gods' okaying the romantic entanglement. The affair is heavy when Sven decides to pull away because commitment issues- "I'm a coyote....I like to wander..." Stuff like that. What he soon realizes he needs is Cara- his other half. The relationship was predictable and not at all what I expected from the author.
I still thoroughly enjoyed the world Andersen continues to build and will be getting the next and last in the series- I believe it's about Rabbit; the half-breed magi. I don't care for him much as a character, but I hope the series ends with a bang.

This is one of those series that you really need to read from the beginning for it all to make sense. I think there are too many references in this story that will have no meaning to the reader unless they know the backstory.

That being said, this is another great addition to the series. The Nightkeepers exist to keep the world safe through the end of the Mayan calendar. The Winnikins are their non-magically inclined sidekicks. Sven and Cara were brought up together after the great massacre that killed off the majority of the Nightkeepers. But Nightkeepers aren't supposed to have romantically inclined relationships with their Winnikins.

Ah. Young, unrequited love. You know how it goes - we can't be together. We need to be together. Break up. Get back together. All in time to keep the evil trying to break through before the end of days takes over. And while this is an adventure series/story, the majority of this book is about the developing relationship between Cara and Sven. Oh yes.

And the countdown to the end of days is now under 90 days. With Rabbit's story to come in November. Thump thump.

The worst part about this book was that I seriously never wanted it to end. This was the last of the Nightkeepers for a while, and I wanted the experience to last and to stay a little bit wrapped up in their fight to save the world. However, at the same time, I wanted to keep reading and to find out how Cara, the winikin leader, and Sven, the Nightkeepers loner found a way to make things work.

Cara and Sven grew up almost as siblings. Though it was always known that Sven was a Nightkeeper and that Carlos was his winikin, Cara and her mother accepted Carlos and Sven's roles and the four of them made a "normal" family. But as they were not true siblings, it was only a matter of time before Cara fell under the spell of the charismatic Nightkeeper Sven. What Carlos never expected was that his charge would also fall for his only daughter. When the attraction seemed to be growing into a bond, Carlos warned Sven off, and Sven disappeared from the family ranch, never staying for more than a few days at a time.

This was book seven in the Nightkeepers series. I have enjoyed the storyline immensely.

Sven and Cara's book focused on the Winikin plight and how to get them to band together to help fight. It kinda reminded me of how Hermione worked with house elves to free them, but in a more we need them sort of way. I had never been really interested in Sven, I think it was the laid back attitude- and I'm more bad boy, brooding type characters.

Cara surprised me. At first, I was not into her character especially how she high tailed it and left her calling. But I think Doc Jess handle her reasoning and personality well. It made me like her spirit and position more.

Love Dez as King, think this was an interesting twist last book.

My only complaint was the fact that Rabbit's () is next and the series finale. I had thought that there would be nine books, with Anna's as #8, then Rabbit as #9. Instead they have been combined.

But OHHHHH, hummana... Red Boar back....

Still don't like Myrinne (was actually a little spiteful and half-smiled with her situation at the end), but if they're made to be together, *sigh* that's the will of the fates.

Mayan 2012 end of days is only a few weeks away. The NightKeepers and winniken are at odds, there's infighting and power struggles at time when they all need to work together against evil.

Cara and Sven have an attraction but to give into it will cause even more problems. Sven tendency to run makes Cara unwilling to fully trust him.

I struggled with this book, starting and stopping many times. I don't think it has anything to do with the writing, I just couldn't get into the story, it left me feeling annoyed. Their magic is driven by blood and sex, with gods and demons trying to influence things to their benefit. While I gave it a three it's not because it wasn't written well, but because I personally couldn't connect with the story. I kept feeling like given the dire circumstances, it felt like they were behaving like pubescent teenagers rather than the worlds only chance against the end times, and there were too many scattered side shoots, which I know are a precursor to the next story but still left me feeling annoyed rather than anticipatory.

I have always thought that the winikin seem to get the shaft within this series. They seem like they are just glorified servants, so I was glad to see that this book finally addresses this issue. I can also see why there would be issues between the old winikin and the new ones. The old ones were raised in the culture, while the new ones have had to live in the aftermath.

I can also see why there were so many issues between Cara and Sven. They are on opposite sides of things, a real Romeo and Juliet situation, one where everyone, including themselves, try to keep them separate. I do find it funny how if they get a sign or message from one of the gods, then all of a sudden everything is all right.

I love that in order to face the evil and come out ahead the Nightkeepers and winikin were forced to work together and do what goes against their nature.

There were tons of surprises within this book, betrayals and those we thought were gone back again. The latter will sure bring about interesting things.

1st : I love this series & will hate for it to end. :(

I have been anticipating Sven & Cara's story!
They seemed to have a love hate relationship through the previous books,so glad to get more insight on why.
There were many unexpected twists/surprises throughout!
The shadow creatures & the winikin! Wow,totally didn't see that one coming! Even with talk of winikin possibly having magic.
Now the Fathers : What is with Carlos? I wasn't satisfied with his part in the book. I feel like there should have been more to his character. I feel like I was left with more questions than answers. Thereseems like more behind his behavior than his traditional beliefs & the writs. I felt like Cara waiting, hoping,& then being disappointed. So maybe that was the reasoning,to feel as Cara?
And finding out the identity of the "first father"! Yep,had my mouth dropping!

Twists, excitement, shocks, and flat out disbelief at some points! All in all a very good read!

I really enjoyed this one. I had been looking forward to Cara and Sven's story since Nightkeepers (Book #1) because I liked the characters back when they were first introduced. The couple really expressed themselves in this book; Sven as roving and restless while Cara is loyal and spirited, and I LOVED the familiars.

Not to sound strange, but DocJess writes the wolf-mind really well. The thoughts were spot-on and really dropped the reader into their heads. The side effects being that the next time I play with a dog, I'm going to be thinking "followfollowfollow!" and "FOUND!"

The animal language has been established now. Lol.

A fun read. ;0)

This installment of the Nightkeepers takes the reader closer to the end time and tells Sven and Cara's story. Sven the coyote Mage and his "winikin" Cara have a lot of growing up to do while dealing with a past neither one of them have ever faced.

This wasn't my favorite of the series and for me really didn't "pick up" till about 2/3 of the way through. But gosh did it end with a bang - one I wasn't expecting (you know how you read so much you can usually figure out what is going to happen - not this time unless if course you looked ahead at the last book then maybe you would have a hint - I don't recommend this because the surprise is well worth the wait).

I love Cara Liu as a woman. She is a woman who knows her heart and mind. And when asked to lead the Winikin she came back to do so. Even though her heart was broken when Sven asked her to leave the Nightkeepers Skywatch. So she must find a way to work with him and lead her crew without letting her feelings get in the way.
Now Sven lets her know that he is aware of the attraction between them, but this could get in the way of there jobs. So they fight it as long as they can. When they no longer can. Cara's father tries his best to viciously demand that she end it or else....

Love this story, you will too

Loved this story. Great story, with lots of action, twists and turns in the lives of Sven and Cara and the joining of the Winikins and the Nightkeepers to save mankind. Their relationship adds to the plot which makes the story more interesting. She is a force to be reckoned with and he is a lone wolf not easily tamed. Sven and Cara are constantly testing each other, trying to be together but also trying to be who they are destined to be. In the end courage, trust, loyalty and love conquers and they are able to fulfill their destinies and be together. Beautifully written and a wonderful story.
Thank you Jessica Andersen.

Yes finally Jessica Anderson is back on track!!

This was an awesome installment and one I've been waiting for ages for.

Excellent plot, the characters were terrific and the love was believable.

Sven is a seriously sexy character and you can see his love for Cara grow through the story. Cara is kick ass and denies her feelings most of the time but with great cause.

I loved these two characters and I loved the little snippets of the other characters and getting to see what they were up to..

So looking forward to the final installment!!

I can't decide if I like Sven and Cara. I liked Sven fine, but for some reason I found Cara to be an annoying person.

I must admit that I'm glad that I waited to read this installment as long as I did...because I do not have to wait forever for the last one.

If you liked the previous books, I'm sure you'll like this one. The story brings up closer to the end of days. The winnikin show some gumption and a lot of annoying behavior in my opinion. But eventually things happen as they're meant to happen.
