It's going to be awhile before I finish another book (currently reading one without pictures, imagine), so I thought I'd add some that I read awhile back. It is telling that the first time I typed that last sentence, it was "read awhile bad." Ah, the Freudian typo.

The whole time I was reading this thing, I kept expecting something to come into the story. Some depth, some explanation, something to relieve the suck. It NEVER CAME.

I can't even describe the characters because they basically all have the same personality. There's only a shallow impression of Ororon's world. The main girl character--oh, man--she's apparently got an interesting backstory, but we'll never know it! Then something happened during the last battle that literally made me think, "What the fuck?" And speaking of the ending, it lacked closure, which is really something for a story that DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TO CLOSE.

In short, if you have a choice between reading this series and rubbing sandpaper on your eyelids, go select your preferred grit.

Truly a tragic tale of star-crossed lovers: the relationship between the devil king and a half-angelblooded girl, the orphan of archangel michael and his human lover.

This series is much different than my usual manga reads (usually the rom-com types). It's gothic and the story is quite captivating during disputes between the supernatural powers of hell and heaven. However, the excess use of gore and blood made me dislike the beauty of the story at times.

Also, the not-happily-ever-after ending made me angry, but that makes me even more sympathetic towards the girl.

Okay for a twenty dollar steal for the 4 book series.

I think I still have all of these volumes hidden in my closet back at my parents house. I used to collect manga like crazy, but eventually gave them all away when I went to college. So the fact that I still have these books somewhere goes to show how much I enjoyed them. I remember loving these books not only because of the good plot and how beautiful the art was, but how BADASS the characters were.

The summary given above makes it seem like The Demon Ororon is super romantic. And I suppose it was a little, but for the most part the relationship between Ororon and Chiaki was sweet and very natural feeling.

This was a fun story, but there wasn't enough relationship development between the two main characters at the beginning for me to take them entirely seriously later on. There are flashbacks. At almost the end of the story, which would have made more sense at the beginning. I guess I just couldn't figure out WHY either of them were in love with each other. The rest of the plot - rebellious, king of hell with a death wish and a crazy family - that was fun. But what really bugged me was the fact that it felt like one of the two main characters was always passed out. If it wasn't one, it was the other.

In the end, the story had potential, but it should have been built up over a longer series.

I loved this story~! The characters were very vivid, and the art style cute. I also liked the little comments that weren't part of the story in some of the smaller panels as well.

My favorite line is when a demon said "The politics of Heaven are above me. Get it, above me?" HAHAHA!!

However, I felt unsatisfied with the ending. By dragging out Ororon's death, I thought someone would end up saving him. I felt cheated, and betrayed that the writer would ignore the reader's trust.

It was alright, I remember enjoying it...but, apparently it didn't make too much of an impact on me. All I can really remember now is that the angel girl tended to get on my nerves. There Ororon was, protecting her at every turn and she condemned him for it. Repeatedly. Throughout the entire thing. >.< Just let him save your life, dammit, and be grateful! D:

I don't have this edition but the individual volumes aren't synching up due to the author's name on goodreads. It's ok. I always think of this entire thing as one book. One very sad, dark, poignant, kinda romantic book. With pretty pretty pictures. I've been scouring the internet for mention of its sequel being printed in English to no avail.

This is one of the darkest series I have read. At times I had no idea what was going on. What kept me reading was mostly the art style. This artist has such a unique drawing style that kept on going. Does it make the story any better? No. But it make want to continue reading until the end. It is at least worth a look if you like horror and really out there stories and a whole lot of fighting...

Super confusing had too many characters no backstories and a ton of loose ends.

I read and read and read waiting for something to happen. Nothing really ever did. There was no explanation for anything, no backstory (except for near the end, and no really nearly enough to explain all that needed to be explained), no difference between the characters...

The characters are all the SAME. Sad, depressed, tragically broken. There's seriously no amount of light to relieve the absolute shit-hole darkness that permeates the entire series. Some of the characters even look the same. It was hard, at least for me, to tell the different characters apart. The art was all similar, and the personalities were all similar...

There's also this romance...thing...between the two main characters. BUT THERE'S NO CHEMISTRY! She just happened to find him on a rainy day and brought him home. There's...just...nothing! She gets freaked out, he gets freaky, she gets freaked out, he gets freaky, she gets freaked out...and it ends! It just ends! Gah!

We get hints of an incredibly interesting backstory for the main girl, but we'll never know WILL WE?! I sincerely wanted to see how she came about, and why, and where, and all that jazz, but it never happened. The author had the best story lined up and went nowhere with it.

What I got out of it:

Anger and disappointment.

Conclusion:

It's ok, but I don't think there was enough closure. It just sort of...ended. Abruptly. Badly.

This was...ok. There was so much room for improvement though. There wasn't much explanation. There were a few flashbacks, but there was just a lot of nothing.

You have an incredible female protagonist who has such *potential* and the author does nothing with it. Her background alone would have been enough to create a story on its own. I kept waiting for her parentage to come into play, but when I noticed I only had forty pages left to read, I was incredibly disappointed.

I kind of wish the author would pick this up again, and just rewrite the whole thing, even it takes twenty more volumes to flesh out the story.

I love the ending where the girl became more like the demon because the demon says his past lover was "just some girl" and the girl at the end says something like "he was just some guy I picked up on a rainy afternoon". I thought it was amazing how she turned out to be like him. I thought it was a good read except I don't understand why the demon liked her so much but maybe I do understand and I just can't remember it.

This series is one of my favorite! I've read it over and over again! Its a beautiful love story and you really feel for Ororon by the end of it, I can't say any more or else I would spoil it but the emotions countered by the amazing fights creates a thrilling tale.

This book was cool, but I hated the ending. How can you kill of the main character guy? It's just not right ! The whole reason I read it was because of Ororon, and then they just kill him off, I mean what ever happened to his regenerative powers? Huh ?

I really liked this book/series a lot. I think the only thing that kept it from getting 5 stars was the ending. I won't spoil it, but I was a bit disappointed with the ending. There were questions I had that never got answered because of the way it ended, thus I give "The Demon Ororon" 4/5 stars.

Really fun manga that wrestles with questions of destiny and autonomy, and, of course, has a love story. Plus REALLY beautiful artwork.
