Going back to my catholic roots, St. Therese rocks it out as being a punk kid in the kingdom. In the late 1800s, she's got 5 principles 1) joyful humility, 2) Bold loving-kindness, 3) tranquil trust in God's limitless love, 4) persistence in prayer, and 5) daily practice in the little way love. But if you doubt her, she refers back not only to scripture, but also to Thomas Kempis's book Imitation of Christ from the 1400s.
His plan: deeds done with love do another's will, not yours choose to have less, rather than more choose to be less than those around you pray for the will of God to be realized in your life walk in peace and quietness see the soul make progress increase the gift of grace...
can you find fault in any of that? this devotional will work for you!
The excerpts from Scripture, the letters of St. Therese and the Imitation of Christ arranged together like so many flowers in the garden of the Little Flower is a wonderful thing, providing many fruits for daily meditation.
The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars are the modernistic introductions to some of the sections by the author/editor. Otherwise, it is a nearly perfect little book full of wisdom from the Little Flower of Lisieux.
Good book filled with many pieces of knowledge. The structure was good in giving some extra context to St. Therese's writings (by means of passages from scripture and the Imitation of Christ) but overall, the book felt a little bit... lacking? It might be better to just read St. Therese's Story of a Soul if one wishes to understand her Little Way - perhaps read that first and then follow it up with this book to help add to the meaning of the former. Regardless, I still enjoyed this book.
If you need a book full of meaningful prayers and a guide for finding God in the little things (good and bad), this is it. I was so moved by her words.
This was a great book to pray with--it includes excerpts from scripture, St Therese's writings, and The Imitation of Christ--plenty to meditate on and pray about to learn more about God's amazing love and therefore further your personal relationship with Christ. It's such a rich book, it took me 2 years to pray through. St. Therese, pray for us!
