Growing up, Scott Nickel wanted to be a comic book writer or a mad scientist. As an adult, he gets to do both. In his secret literary lab, Scott has created more than a dozen graphic novels for Stone Arch Books featuring time travel, zombies, robots, giant insects, and mutant lunch ladies. Scott's NIGHT OF THE HOMEWORK ZOMBIES received the 2007 Golden Duck award for Best Science Fiction Picture Book.
When not creating crazy comics, Scott squeezes in a full-time job as a writer and editor at Jim Davis' Garfield studio.
When a substitute teacher brainwashes students to LOVE homework, it is up to one of the students, whom to bring all his classmates back to “normal”; loving to play videogames, eating junk food but most importantly dislike homework.
This book is a graphic novel story with comic style illustrations. Children will find this book very humorous, and they will enjoy reading and keep children interested. At the end of the book, there are comprehension questions to enhance students knowledge of the book. I love that children will not realize they are learning, while reading this book. I would recommend this book for students ages 6-9, specifically boy. Other books that students might find interesting are “The boy who burped too much” and “Cursed of the Red Scorpion”.
Even though this book is not highly reviewed, I decided to take a chance on it. How can you not like zombies?! Well, while this text was in graphic novel form, the plot was rather simple and uneventful (except the zombies). The substitute teacher brainwashes students to LOVE homework, while one student (who went to the bathroom) then finds out and tries to reverse this "curse". Kids wanting to do homework, oh no! This is close to a 1st-2nd grade level, given the amount of text and type of vocabulary. Can be an easy read, but not that exciting or deep as far as characters or plot development.
This graphic Novel by Scott Nickel is a very funny and quick story about a substitute teacher that wants to turn all the kids into homework loving zombies. Bu the is stopped by the children's love of video games and unhealthy snacks. I feel that this book is very useful if you want to read a fast graphic novel.
Trevor has noticed something different about his classmates; all of a sudden they all love doing homework! Who is this new teacher Mr. Winklepoof and why does Trevor get a strange feeling about him? This short story about homework zombies will keep your 1st or 2nd grade reader entertained!Written as a graphic novel with great illustrations.
The new substitute teacher is turning every kid in school into a brain-boggled zombie who loves homework! Then the TREVOR WALTON want to turning they to back, the TREVOR WALTON take his friend and classmate to his home. Then local they in a game story, finally, they are turning back.......
I really like how Mr. Wrinklepoof hypnotized his students into thinking that homework is awesome. The main character has to un-hypnotize them by making them do something that is the opposite of school.
Mom likes taht this series of books pulls graphics novels "up" a level with related stats, discussion and writing questions. Don't think the 9 year old noticed!
