Power up! Destiny is a choice! Anne Elizabeth takes her heroine, Tia Stanton, on an off-world journey to a land with strange creatures, power struggles, and an evil dictator. Even with all her magical power, she is no longer just a stock girl by day at Vivant, the sentient supernatural store, or a monster-hunting vigilante at night, Tia is being courted to become a queen! Our heroine is at a serious turning point in her life and difficult choices face her, but it is crucial that she make her own decision.
One thing I understand now. I should've read "Pulse of Power" before reading "The Pendulum". It's not mandatory, but I'm sure it would've made this a little more enjoyable.
The art was good almost all the time, except during the action scenes (which weren't many). At those times the gorgeous drawings just didn't live up to the expectations, while being too static.
In terms of story, besides feeling a bit lost (we're told things from the past issue in a vague form, and that's alright, but still a bit frustrating), I felt this story was way too rushed. Looking at it from a broad perspective, everyhting is there, the problem is this comic is too literary. There's text explaining things that should be visual. Scenes jump around without a proper link, way too many times. Actually, this was mostly what kept me from loving this comic. The scene changes. One moment she was on Earth, the next she was on an alien planet, being knocked unsconcious only to awake at a completly different place. Way too quick, without connection.
Aside from that, I liked the characters, the setting and the story, besides the good art going around, but the comic shoul have less text, more images to "show" the text, and definetly more focus on the real action scenes, which were all pretty rushed.
Still, it was an enjoyable comic, and I'll read the previous one, and if a next one is done, possibly that as well.
A sequel to the graphic novel “Pulse of Power,” “The Pendulum” continues the story of Tia Stanton, who was birthed from a magical rite. In “The Pendulum” she is dealing with the after effects of her previous adventure, which includes an overabundance of magic. When she tries to return that magic to its owners, things go awry and she ends up with none. What will happen to her? How will she be able to help her friends if she herself is helpless?
While I have not read the first story in this series, I was able to piece together enough to be able to figure out what was going on in this one, more or less. I think it would have been even better if I’d read the first one, and I do plan to pick it up when I have a chance. The art in this book is terrific, and the story is great – nicely plotted, twists and turns, and I particularly like Vivant. I love the variety of supernatural characters that inhabit this world, as well as the other worlds to which the supernatural world apparently has access. It’s all pretty neat. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys urban fantasy. The next book in the series is to be called “Power Up.”

This series is awesome. I love the graphics and the story was action packed and full of drama.
Tia is full of borrowed magical powers and when she decides to give them back everything goes wrong. Tia gets kidnapped in order for a race to be rescued by her powers against a Dictator. But they learn quickly that her powers are gone.
They help Tia go on a quest to recover them and she discovers a whole lot about herself along the way. Will Tia rescue the race and rid them of the Dictator? And recover her powers?
This reminds me a little of Richelle Meads Storm Born, but on a different storyline. Strong female character kicking but! Very good and highly recommended.
I enjoyed the story. This is the sequel to Pulse of Power and I recommend reading them in order.
The author has created a magic chaotic world and the artwork compliments the story. I would consider the artwork a bit retro with the way the word bubbles flow, but it works for Tia and her story.
