Commemorating the life and death of one thousand martyrs in China over a span of three hundred years, this remarkable resource calls Christians everywhere to serve with a willing heart and fulfill the Great Commission, no matter what the consequences.
Very moving book. The stories of these martyrs collected together makes difficult reading. I stopped for a while at about page 200 for sometime. But I wanted to know about the history of Christianity in China in recent history, so began again a few days ago. At this stage, the book was very difficult to put down. It breaks your heart...as it should. And you want to know why this is still happening. And perhaps, just telling others about this persecution is the best thing to do. And praying. "Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body." Hebrews 13:3
Emotionally draining, but an important work recording the many thousands of Christians, both foreign to China and Chinese, who were brutally martyred for the gospel across all provinces. Paul Hattaway has carried out in depth research to show how Christians loved the Chinese people enough to give their lives in persecution. They loved their lives not and suffered. Of whom the world is not worthy. Their love of Christ was greater than their own lives. This book took me a lot longer to read than normal. The stories recorded by witnesses are harrowing at times. But I felt it important to read on and give thanks to God for each one who paid the ultimate price
