Tested principles for transforming an idea into a fully operational company Startup Weekend―the organization behind 54-hour events where developers, designers, marketers, and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and create startups―has spawned both a global initiative in entrepreneurship as well as numerous successful startups. Startup Weekend, the book, contains best practices, lessons learned, and empowering examples derived from the organization's experiences for individuals and small organizations to follow as they launch businesses. Each of the key beliefs outlined has been tested by Startup Weekend and has yielded powerful results. The principles described in each chapter will give any business idea a greater chance for success. Apply these simple actionable principles to launch your own startup revolution.
It doesn't really show you, how to take your company "from concept to creation in 54 hours". Actually it is a 200 pages marketing marathon, that shows how "awesome" startup weekends must be. Each chapter presents new people, that will tell you, that they've met very interesting people and what not. Wouldn't recommend it.
It might have been a more enjoyable read for someone who isn't already steeped in Entrepreneurial thoughts and processes. I found it to be more useful about half way through, but it would have probably been faster if they had spent less time jabbering on about examples and more time talking about the process of Startup Weekend. Once they finally got to the meat and potatoes, I felt the book had more value. If you're already into rapid group ideation, you might want to skim the book for details and then start reading with more intent about half way through chapter 4. However, pay attention to the diagrams and charts, those are good the whole way through.
très bon livre qui présante les startup weekend en USa(avant 2012) et présente le temoignage des gens qui ont pu trouvé des partenaire ou des investisserus de leurs projet.le le recommande qu participant des startup weekend
Startup weekend is essentially a feel-good pitch of the Startup Weekend events. It contains relatively little new information about actually building a start-up, a team, or a product. It occasionally flirts with interesting statistics about the events, but doesn't delve into much beyond giving some inspirational and pointed stories about participants at some of the events. Information about building start-ups is better found in other sources, and motivation for building a start-up is also somewhat wanting. On the plus side the book is relatively short, clocking in at about 150 pages, so it is not a huge time investment at least.
In the end, I found the book to be more of a commercial and less about content. Decent information, and I love the concept, but more time was spent on how great the team, experience, the culture, etc., etc. is the was spent on the mechanics of learning-by-doing. A section on how to organize a weekend would have been great, especially since the closest scheduled startup weekend is two states away.
This might be because i had different expectations, but you're essentially paying to read Startup Weekend's promotional material. It's got some stories which is the only reason it's getting a star otherwise it'd get zero.
While I found some useful information, I felt like I was being sold to and this book really just skimmed the surface of what it takes to "take a company from Consept to Creation in 54 Hours." The takeaway could easily have been presented in a tri-fold brochure. I probably would have reviewed this at a 3 if this was less of an infomercial or if the title was less misleading.
More a cheerleader book for Startup Weekend events than a how-to-guide, but a good read and pretty light as well. It essentially only outlines what happens at SWs, but does make a good case for attending in person. Most definitely a new approach to entrepreneurship, and one that allows for both the seasoned business professional as well neophytes alike.
certainly a book worth reading for those who are thinking about taking a leap of faith into the entrepreneurial world. A peptalk for those just starting out and that have had a few drawbacks. It most certainly talks about the philosophy behind the while venue, though I wish it talked more about building a startup, this is definitely a must read
I did not know startup weekend existed, now I do. I recommend anyone one who wants to expand their horizons read this and then attend a start up weekend. It is very inexpensive to go and only takes one weekend. You meet new people and get to experience putting together a business idea and presenting it to judges. You do not need special skills or to be tech oriented to enjoy this.
This book isn't so much a "how to" guide for startups as much as it is a handbook for Startup Weekend. Useful if you're planning to attend one of those events, not so much for gaining insight into launching a startup.
Li antes da participação de um Startup Weekend buscando aprender mais sobre o evento e como interagir com o pessoal que lá estava. Mas fui surpreendido pois não esperava aprender bastante com os casos que são ilustrados no livro.
This book is motivational and open minded to any startup weekend organizer. I highly recommend this book for anybody that is organizing an entrepreneurial event in their community or planning to do so.
Though it mostly reads as an infomercial encouraging you to attend a local "Startup Weekend" event, it makes some great points about entering the entrepreneurial world and the current start up climate. It is also a quick easy read.
Describes how the principles as mentioned in 'The Lean Startup' by Eric Ries are put to practice. Could be more specific about the tools and techniques used to actually build a startup.
Not a ground breaking book by any means but still a fun and quick read that is worth looking at if you are thinking of participating in a Startup Weekend event.
The most of the book promotes the startup weekend event, but include some clues for new entrepreneurs too. If you are lost, their read is a good beginning
