Improvise. Life Is a Song Sometimes Without a Lyric
"A Flower: It Has Its Own Song," set in the 70's, is told through the eyes of a precocious young child. Rose Day enters a new and formative stage in her life when her mother leaves her father and moves them to Hartsfield, CT. New to the neighborhood, Rose quickly befriends Mrs. Wise, an older woman, as well as others that would play pivotal roles in the forming of her young mind. Through these neighbors, friends and memories of her father, seeds of wisdom are planted and gems of knowledge forever instilled.
Author Dana Rondel grapples with the human condition through the voice of her young protagonist. Though we are no longer in the 70's, some things remain the same, making this book very relatable. "A Flower: It Has Its Own Song" is an enjoyable read and impressive debut effort.
A Flower: It Has Its Own Song, is semi-autobiographical. It speaks to the power of love, hope and imagination and about our ability to find beauty even in the midst of our struggles.
My novel was nominated in two categories by the African American Literary Awards 2007.
