Since I teach through the life of Abraham in my Genesis course, and enjoyed Meyer's portrait of Joseph, I thought I'd read this one before I got to Genesis 12.
It is good, not great, solid [with some quotable gems] but not stellar. I enjoyed his exposition on Hebrews much more than this one. Perhaps I was looking for more "new insights" for my teaching than most would be, so take that into account when looking at the 4 stars.
If you have never read anything else of Meyer's, you're in for a treat, however. I've read oodles of commentaries on Genesis and these character portraits seem to never stray from solid historical context, while still pointing the reader constantly to Jesus and the gospel.
