Free not to feel guilty about your limitations? Free to ask for help, free to be real, free to grow? Freedom is in store for you―freedom to be the best mom you can be. This books started off strong but then I feel like it was trying too hard and got weird. In the beginning, this was very conversational and relational in style and it helped me to see that every mom struggles with the same things and that is comforting. But, as the book went on it seemed to be a battle between the conversational tone and an educational one trying to preach to us about God and what we should do both from a religious perspective as well as just a judge mental perspective. Nothing in this book was new and it all felt a little dumbed down and like it was trying too hard. Each section had a topic, then a deeper dive into that topic as well as a real mom story, journal prompts, and further reading resources. The whole premise is that there are some myths we hold that are not reality. Some of them were a stretch and I would argue the realities were far from universal.

This was fun, not just because it was a celebration of being real, but because it provided useful insight for addressing some of the heavy guilt we mamas tend to carry around. It offered hope for realistic expectations--from ourselves and from what God really has in store for us. Helped me claim my identity as a mom further. As in, it's super-fine that I will always hate crafting ;)

I read this as a young mother and it really helped to bring perspective to my daily struggles. I felt like I was not alone in the challenges I faced and I felt validated in my feelings of insecurity. This book helped me to lighten up a little and enjoy my kids with reduced pressure.
