Shortly about each story. Minor spoilers for a few.
The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter: I didn't like this at all, really. It felt long and quite pointless, but at least it had a creepy feel to it.
Freaktent by Nancy A. Collins: Had I read this before watching American Horror Story Freakshow, I might have liked it, but I'm so done with stories of freaks. I'm glad that the freaks were not the horror element, though.
Bug House by Lisa Tuttle: I liked the atmosphere of the story, and how it was surreal but very much tied to reality.
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson: This is actually the story that made me read this book in the first place because it was mentioned in The Simpsons. I liked it, it was unpredictable and seemed quite harmless until the end.
Renewal by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro: I kind of felt like this story was a bit too long, or too short. I think it would have worked better as a full novel, or at least it had enough potential for that. I liked the different approach to vampires. Funnily enough I got the feeling of vampires in the very first page.
Firebird by J. L. Comeau: I think that out of all the stories this one was the most "horror" of the book. Although it had the gory parts, I'm glad that wasn't the main thing either.
The Prince of Nox by Kathe Koja: This story was my favourite of the book. It was interesting and I liked seeing zombies explored a bit differently from the usual.
Martyrdom by Joyce Carol Oates: This. I didn't really understand this story at all. It was my least favourite. The only upside to it was the different style of telling, which to me as a writer is always nice to see.
The White King's Dream by Elizabeth A. Lynn: I don't know why this story has been classified as horror, but also I do. It was short, which was good. Yes, not a big fan.

Olen joskus vuosia sitten lukenut tämän aiemmin, mutta olin unohtanut lähes kaikki tarinat. Paitsi Kathe Kojan Noxin Ruhtinaan, jota olinkin viime aikoina etsiskellyt. Iloinen sattuma siis! Oikein laadukas kokoelma on, yksikään tarina ei ollut huono ja suurin osa on jopa erinomaisia.

December 31, 2017En ole erityisesti novellien enkä kauhun ystävä, joten sikäli tämä ei ole ihan tyypillisin lukuvalinta minulle. Kirja on kuitenkin joskus minulle Bookcrossingin kautta kulkeutunut. Ja mikäs sen helpompaa lukea jotain vähemmänkin kiinnostavaa, kun tietää, että kirjan voi aina laittaa eteenpäin kiertoon.
Yarbron novellin Saint-Germain oli minulle hahmona tuttu ennestään, koska olen muutamia sarjan kirjoja lukenut. Varmaan siksi kyseinen novelli tuntui muita sujuvammin luettavalta.
Mikään näistä tarinoista ei kuitenkaan muuten erityisemmin innostanut.
