It pains me to write this review, as I love everything else this author has written. But this was just....BAD. Badly written, rushed, awkward, uninteresting. It felt like a wholly different author than her other works. In fact, if I had read this book before all her others, I would think she was a terrible author and never tried anything else from her. Which really would have been my loss because I know her work to be amazing. So, if you're new to Delle Jacobs try ANYTHING else she's written, and you won't be disappointed.
Here is another wonderful story by Delle Jacobs. This is a short story but full of romance and Hawaiian Islands History. While I was reading this book, I kept thinking about if this is really happening or is he just dreaming of it. I hope you will enjoy reading this story as much as I did.
A delightful journey for the imagination! I hadn't considered or come across such a fun and unique storyline. Ms. Jacobs put together a great cast and played the story out beautifully.
Synopsis - When his ship is destroyed in a storm, John Wall finally heeds the Siren's call, which he has always believed would signal his death. The kiss of her lips bring neither oblivion nor his Christian notion of Heaven, but an undersea existence with the inscrutable female who sang to him throughout his years as a sailor. Two different beings from different worlds, the two have trouble understanding one another and explaining their own feelings and perspectives. Do they love each other? Can they share a happy existence?
Review - There were several times throughout this short story when I almost set it aside, but the premise was interesting and I held out hope. Ultimately, I was disappointed. I had fleeting sympathy for John Wall, because he was understandably unsettled by his circumstances. Similarly, Siren is essentially a goddess, so her opaqueness makes sense. However, I ultimately didn't really care for or about either of them. I did shed a few tears toward the end, but it wouldn't really have bothered me if there had been no HEA.
I didn't actively hate it, but I'm disinclined to read anything else by Delle Jacobs (although I think I have Loki's Daughters in my Kindle downloads...). The prose was really flowery, but there was no emotional connection. The sex scenes were just there - not moving or particularly erotic.
A captain goes down with his ship, but not before seeing an ethereal redhead in the waves. He follows her, and what follows is a dream-like experience. Has he died, or not?
The style is different from a typical romance, but the story is definitely romantic. It reminded me of an old fairy tale, only with a story I'd never heard before, of the siren who calls men to the sea. It's all from the hero's point of view, which only adds to the mystery of what has happened to John Wall. I particularly loved the second part of the book, and the exotic setting, beautifully written. Definitely something different!
"I am for you, John Wall. Nothing else matters." And so that was what it meant. "I love you, Siren. Nothing else matters. But you will not die on land."
I loved this book. It tells of the old tales the sailors used to say about hearing the Sirens call and resisting her temptation. Because to go to her would mean death and what man wants to die? I would def recommend this book, but be warned I had tears streaming in the end.
A retelling of an old Hawaiian tale. John Wall, captain of sinking ship is called to the sea by his Siren. This was a fun love story about a mortal man from land, and an immortal goddess from the sea.
This is a lovely historical novel based on a Hawaiian legend. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Felt like I went on a mini-vacation through the Summer Sea and to the tropical island in the middle of the Pacific.
This novella is beautifully written, full of myth and imagery that jumps off the page and wraps the reader in a vibrant undersea world. Even set in the Hawaiian islands during the time of the first missionaries, that tropical paradise is not as vibrant as the Summer Sea.
This was a very interesting Great short read. I finished is in under an hour. Well written and just a few typo's. This was a free book in the Kindle Store.
I could not get into this book it felt like they were swimming for 4 or 5 chapters, i could not finish the book. I have loved other books of Delle's but this I just didnt like
