Hauling cargo across the immense distances between stars isn't a bad way to live your life. Especially if all you have to pay is yourself and the only company you have is an artificial intelligence. For Jared Collins, this is life: simple, relaxed and, above all, free.

But his regular routine of laid-back freedom is brought to a halt after dropping off a load of cargo at an isolated military outpost in a backwater system. When his AI picks up a distress call from a slowly decaying orbit around the local star, Jared finds himself unable to turn down investigating this mystery.

As he gets onboard, he is confronted with a life-altering revelation...

Kindle freebie and short fiction...so quick read. Overall the story is about a loner in a large cargo ship in space. His only companion is his AI. He ponders the largest philosophical question of modern man, discovers 'something' and the book ends. Again, giving more information would be giving away the book.

Now that's weird, this felt longer than a short story, it's usually the other way round.
Intriguing plot and well written. Characters were well developed and likeable.
Interesting to see that this author is adept at scifi as well as creepy horror stories.
Highly recommend.
