The scriptures tells of three different types of darkness, the first is found in Genesis chapter one verse two, [and darkness was upon the face of the deep]. Then God created light and God divided the light from the darkness the light he called day and the darkness he called night. This darkness (night) gives most of us rest from the activities of the day, and opportunity for sleep. The second is spiritual darkness, a time in our life when we pursue our own desires, our own version of right and wrong with little regard to what God says. We pursue the things of this world, and give little or no thought to the spiritual things of God. The third mention of darkness is outer darkness, three times Matthew speaks of this outer darkness as a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth, a place of torments with no relief, no escape.
