I am stuck reading so many insipid merchandise-based children's books and I want to kiss Elisa Kleven's feet for writing these charming and lovely books that my daughter wants to read again and again.
This book sorta reminded me of "The Velveteen Rabbit" The Paper Princess's girl has grown, and her paper doll is sitting on the dresser and fading. The dog rescues her and lets her free outside. With the help of the wind, the Paper Princess can fly. She ends up with a baby whose dad puts her on a high shelf to wait for later. She flies away and lands with a boy who adds wings and she becomes the angel on the tree. At this house the 'disposable' ornaments are let on the tree when the tree is left in in a field, and, of course it snows and she is stuck in the branches.
Seasons change, as summer ends, she remembers what the dog told her: "It's hard world fro small, fragil things. She sang a song to break the quietness... The leaves are flying like tiny kites. The clouds are tumbling, fluffy and white, The sun's a gold ball in a playground of blue, But I'm stuck in this treel like glue.
A small voice hears her says, "Let's get you out..." It was a Monarch butterfly and they included the Paper Princess on their journey.
---- At this point of the book, I loved it, and thought "I want to give this as a gift!"
There's a bit more....(but for me a flashy finish was missing....) The Paper Princess has found her way....
The Paper Princess Finds Her Way is a very sweet story about a paper princess who was collecting dust on a shelf after the girl who made her outgrew her. A gentle breeze blew her away so she could make new friends. On her journey, she encounters a dog, a baby, a Christmas tree, and some beautiful butterflies who take her to a new place. In this new place, she finally finds a new friend to play with. The main theme of this story is about the adventure of everyday life and how if you are willing for change, the world can make that happen. I gave this a five out of five because this story is so sweet and heartwarming. It is a feel good story that I think lots of children will enjoy, especially with the beautiful illustrations. When I was a kid, I used to make paper dolls so this book offered some nostalgia for me which made me really enjoy it. I would recommend this book because it could inspire children to treat every day like an adventure and to never give up.
This lengthy tale is great for sharing with a child when seeking to expand their attention span to a story. A beloved paper doll finds her days have grown empty now that the little girl who made her has grown up. She longs to go out into the world and find new friends and playmates. As the wind takes her from one home to another we see the paper doll change from a princess to an angel to a butterfly and back to a beloved princess at the hands of new little girl and playmate. A wonderful tale from a toy's perspective and one sure to appeal to both toddlers who love their toys and still imbue them with feelings as well as children learning to separate from beloved toys as their grow into new ones.
What an amazing story with beautiful language. The words, poetic and rhyming, made my reading experience really enjoyable. Every growing girl would love it especially when at some point in their life the world would seem cruel and hard to them - "small, fragile things". Journeys are inevitable in everyone's life but it's faith and adventurous spirit that make one find their way and never stop seeking for goodness. This read gave me such a great lift!
