Academy Gods #1

Alpha Gods of Silverton

Rate this book
At Silverton University, the Alpha Gods don't just rule the school, they dominate it.

Before I'd even enrolled, I was warned about them: The four Alpha Gods that ruled the school. They could get away with anything- even murder.

All I had to do was avoid them and I'd be able to get my brother the life-saving treatments my enrollment at this school provided.

Simple, keep my head down and survive a few years.

My plan worked for all of one day, until Julian, the leader of the Alpha Gods, targeted my best friend. I knew the consequences of stopping his twisted game, but I'd always stood up for Rue, and old habits die hard. I grabbed the dogfood before Rue could be forced to eat it, and shoved it into Julian's mouth.

Now, I'm their target, and if I'm going to stay in this school, I'm going to have to figure out a way to endure the leader's cruel whims—even if it means dressing as a dog for his amusement.

There's no way I'll let them break me.

The Alpha Gods might think I'm their cute pet they can toy with now, but they'll be in for a rude awakening when I bite back.

A slow-burn why choose paranormal romance.
Warning, cliff-hanger ahead

I'm stuck for words

This has to be one of the brattiest heroines I've read about in a while. The whole bullying is her own damn fault. She doesn't even apologise to her "bestfriend" when all he was trying to do was help her. Let's be honest here if you family was depending on you and your brother would die if you couldn't just put your head down. There is no way within 5mins of getting there, even after the warnings, you throw yourself into the limelight...... And she's supposed to be one of the smartest brains in the country. Juvenile.

RH MMMM/Shifters/Bully Academy

SYNOPSIS (of 3 Book Series): FC (Lee) is a half breed wolf shifter living in a world where humans and shifters live together. The FC’s younger brother is very ill and the FC gets a hard fought scholarship place at Silverton University and in return, receives funding for her brother’s treatment and a new home for her family. At Silverton, each year, there are Alpha Gods who have additional power beyond usual shifter powers and are essentially treated like Gods and allowed to do and get away with whatever they want. The FC falls foul of them and is bullied, especially by Julian the leader. Over time the FC and the MCs fall for each other and realise they are all mates. This is over a backdrop where the FC and MCs discover that becoming a true Alpha God is not all they thought it was and there is more to it. The FC and MCs have to fight for their lives, suffer various trials and tribulations and ultimately get their HEA.

The story is written well enough although there are editing issues that get very bad in Book 3. The story started strongly with good strong FC and MCs. The FC fought the bullying and stood up for herself, didn’t allow herself to be walked over and none of those “too weak to resist because of her attraction” scenarios which was a nice change and made me like the FC. The basic story has some originality and keeps pulling you along with enough action to engage but loses its way in Book 3. There’s the obligatory bitchy girls and the bullying is short lived and focusses on treating the FC like a dog so not particularly graphic or OTT. Unfortunately the transition from bullying to being mates is rushed and there is insufficient development of the individual relationships.

There are no sex scenes except some kissing until Book 3 when there’s a bit more heat and a sex scene with each MC 🌶️🌶️. This is an RH book where the physical relationship between the FC and the MCs is individual and there are no group scenes just the FC and one MC. I felt that the sex scenes were a bit rote and some OTT where the author was trying to create sexy heat but failed. They come after the climax of the story and are literally one after the other as each MC essentially “taps in” for their time with the FC. I found it an odd approach. One of these scenes involves pegging which I don’t find romantic or sexy and I just couldn’t understand why the author included it unless she was trying to create some sexy kink. It didn’t work for me at all and whilst there is heat and angst between the main characters I did not feel any real connection or depth to each relationship.

Where the problems came for me were in Book 2 and 3 which became less and less enjoyable with the FC’s behaviour, the disjoint in the story and characters and the weakness of the climax and Alpha tests. It all felt too contrived and lacking in thought. The FC’s absolute need to sacrifice herself for anyone and everyone became annoying and often seemed unnecessary. She never attempted to fight back or find another way around things but simply bowed down and allowed herself to be used against others and on occasion throwing her mates into the fire. There was no backbone and it all felt too contrived. e.g putting on the bracelet without even questioning or fighting? Not telling King straight off there was danger and to get away asap despite knowing her family was being used against her? Immediately discounting Luci and discounting help from another? Immediately dropping to her knees when told to do so and to reject her mates with no push back, no fighting or arguing? Soo frustrating.

The final straw for me was when the FC was prepared to essentially sacrifice all her mates for her brother and pushed them to do tests that hundreds of others had failed. There was no reason for her to beleive that her mates would be any better at the tests yet she pushes them to do them and not just run. One minute the FC is adamant about going to see Inu about the tests despite being told it’s a trap and then she does a 180 and starts worrying that they are all headed into a trap. It made no sense.

By the time I reached Book 3 the wheels had come off the story and the writing. Unfortunately Book 3 is clearly rushed. In addition to editing issues there are story inconsistencies like Julian/Elijah’s father being described as this terrible person who kills people and family members who cross him and from whom the FC is trying to get away and he has treated Julian terribly. Then suddenly with a phone call he does a 180 and becomes a self sacrificing thoughtful person! Mika suddenly becomes Mia, character names get confused in scenes; Sterling’s wolf is suddenly called Lewis; Sterling heard previously about what happened to the previous Alpha Gods which is what Mika told Julian’s father and yet Sterling, when seeing a statue, has to have things explained again. The story just had too many disconnects. All these mistakes jar and impact the flow of the story and the climax. I don’t think this book was proof read or went through any kind of quality control.

In conclusion, a story that started with promise but the devolved into a mess of disjointed story lines that went beyond suspending disbelief, an annoying FC and where the editing needs serious review.

Alright. I have read books with some pretty horrible main characters that do things to the main character that honestly should NEVER be forgiven and 3 books later I'm oohing and awwing that they have children together. So when I started this and they mention that degradation happens I was like yeah alright.

I think the degradation with this one was just weird and seemed forced. Maybe because no body else was really in on it and Julian was alone in his harassment.

Moving to plot. This one didn't really move much and the last chapter is really the only time we focus on the alpha gods, what is really happening, and any negative emotion really toward that title. So we shall see.

I want to see where this goes but I will note they act too young to be in college. I see this aged up for the eventual sexual interactions versus it being a book with older characters.

But we shall see where it goes

What on Earth was I reading? That wasn’t a bullymance. That was Boys over Flowers with werwolves and weird kinks. Maybe I’m just old, but the characters were straight out of a bad 80s middle school drama except they could use sex and violence openly as whatever that was. The posturing and “eat dog food” … I rolled my eyes so hard I saw my ponytail. Add to the stilted dialogue and choppy pov shifts made it hard for me to get into the story. The main female character was supposed to be this driven amazing shifter and yet within minutes of stepping on campus she’s brawling with “the gods”. She is there for treatment for her brother. Why is a college treating her younger brother and moving her family into a fancy condo? I just felt that there were pieces missing and the story wasn’t making sense. DNF at 33%

Decent

3.5 ⭐ Typical high school bullying why romance. The FMC will need character growth because she was pretty much the catalyst for getting on the bullies radar. She was given clear instructions on what to do to keep her family safe and no sooner than she arrive on campus she's already interfering and now has a target on her back.

This book reads like a Wattpad or Radish story. There were grammatical errors and the characters were really amateurish. This story ends on a Cliffhanger making you wonder who can be trusted and what hidden agendas are at play.

Secrets and sacrifices

Wow this is my first read by this author and I’m so glad I grab this book.
I’m intrigued by the characters, each one having a different perspective and back story.
The world building was enough to entertain without being too wordy.
The FMC is a great mix of fierceness while being soft or submissive when needed. She is loyal and passionate. Can’t wait to dive into book 2.

A slow but steady start to the series. Not much romance - a couple of kisses and as I've gone on blind I can't tell if it's going to be a simple mf or more, but which makes a change tbh!

So we have 4 Alpha Gods. Julian is an asshole straightaway to our FMC Lee. Bullies her to the point the next Alpha god Elijah steps in (which apparently he never does) to stop him. Lee feels instant connection to him, but her wolf denies it, but and so does he. His fiancee who he loves immensely doesn't return his feelings but that's for later.... Albedo is known as the heartbreak king. He's the first to sneak a kiss from Lee and his wolf is the first also to recognise a mate bond which Albedo fights. Our last God is Sterling who very rarely looks up from his phone playing an online game and chatting with his gaming partner of over five years.

Lee has a nightmare with the gods fiancées - they are truly nasty and will do anything to get her out and away from their men... Even tho their men don't seem to have much interest in them....!

Albedo tries to make it safe for Lee by giving her a room in the God's domain. Decorating it in the game she loves to play and promising her noone but the 4 alphas and her can get it and noone but her can get in her room with the key.

But his father, the Dean, discovers it and Albedo goes with him to his office. All we know then is the other 3 alphas feel immense pain coming from him.

But also they notice that Lee is on the side of the campus....

Bit of a cliffy but a great steady start to a sweet series!

Huh

Typical poor scholarship kid doesn’t submit to the alphas of the school and issues and bullying ensue. But one by one they fall for her.
Nothing I haven’t read before. I do like the gaming aspect of it but it throws the story off.

I didn’t finish this book. I got to the point where she created the new character in the game and was playing with the deans son. Like 90%. And I just couldn’t take it anymore.
All of them are insufferable and one dimensional characters. Especially Lee. She supposed to be this genius, who devotes herself to academics to get into the school to save her brother, and she’s not in the school five minutes before she’s already causing trouble, and as far as I can tell, she only attends two classes in the entire book and does absolutely zero schoolwork. And the angst between, all of the characters is so manufactured and shallow that it makes the stakes of the book laughable.

I was so close to the end, but I already knew it was going to happen and just didn’t care anymore.

DNF degradation I hate that shit. I never understand why this crap is in the romance genre. There isn't enough chocolate or orgasms in the world for me to forgive that crap. I would be in jail straight up 187 murder death kill. At least the lead chic stands her morals. Don't put up with that crap. Make that doosh eat that dog food, sugar! Bite his face off or get a sniper rifle.

While I enjoyed the story, there are so many plot holes that don't make sense and I am REALLY hoping get answered in the later books.
Like Lee not having any clue about who the Alpha Gods are, despite them supposedly being the future leaders of their world.
Or Lee being so set on finding her mate and thinking how even being with anyone other then her mate is sacrilege, but no one else seems to think that way and arrange marriages seem the norm.
The constant calling Lee a mutt but not really explaining why. Is one of her parents not a wolf shifter? Or is she just not of high station?

I also wish there was more about the rest of the world. So many casual mentions of other shifter types, but all we see is the wolf shifters. I know there are many other books that make up a greater world by the author, but it just feels odd having these brief mentions of them, even if to the Characters we are seeing the world through, probably wouldn't give these other things much thought.

Hoping more is revealed in later books. Despite the plot holes, I will be continuing the books as I like the characters and hope to learn more. And see if I am right on what I think were hints at what is to come.

DNF 29% chapter 13.

Julian is a love interest and he's has 0 chance at a redemption. And while at this point in the book, nothing romantically has happened between him and Lee, that's where isn't going and I'm not gonna waste my time with it.

Elijah and Sterling are so far just side characters. Elijah saves her from Julian's torment, and then his fiancee steps in. Sterling so far has just escorted her to a class.

Albedo is a teacher and apparently the deans son. The dean that told her to just give in to Julian and do whatever he wanted or else she should just leave. Albedo sucks almost as much as Julian. Albedo is cooking up a punishment for Lee, because he's a fucking dick like Julian. He wants info from Lee so Lee set some ground rules. What ended it for me was she said no to them using her body, like them touching her in any way. Suddenly Albedo is pulling her in for a kiss AND SHE FUCKING GAVE IN. Not only did she give in, she apologized to Albedo because that's exactly what you do when someone forces themself on you.

Not for me

Didn't get past 13%. The mmcs are loathsome, the fmc is one dimensional. I can usually get through the bullying to romance parts of these types of storylines but the mmcs should have something about them that keeps you interested long enough for the story to develop. Starting off with feeding people dog food and forcing the insipid fmc to dress up as a dog with collar and the threat of being leashed and walked like a dog unless she opts to call one of the mmcs master instead is just not my cup of tea. Fail for me but I guess it's different strokes for different folks. I would have voted more stars if the writing was better but sadly didn't enjoy the one dimensional characters or world building.

Hooked!

When I first read the synopsis, I thought that I would give this book a go, even thought it’s not my usual go to. Boy, am I glad I pushed through and read it. I am absolutely hooked! The characters have a depth of realness about them. Their pain, the highs and lows are so beautifully and delicately written that I felt all their emotions. There were a few surprises in there that made me stop and think “What the hell?” But overall this story is amazingly well written. Bring on Book 2!

I'm really conflicted on how I felt about this. On one hand it was a typical bully romance but the FMC and her defiance seemed a little OTT since her purpose of being there was saving King.

There was a lot of degradation. It's got to be a kink.. I realised while reading this book it's not mine through.

It is set in college, but it feels like it was originally set in high school. Have the characters been aged up for sexy times in later books?

But, I'm still interested in how this ends.

uncomfortable but glad I finished it

The bullying against the FMC is extreme and I’m not into the degradation and forced pet play aspects of it. There were several points in the book I almost DNF’ed it. Near the very end it seems like perhaps the bullying may stop. I am interested to read the next book in the series to see if the MMCs can redeem themselves but I’m only about 60% sold it’s even a possibility. So far I only like 1 of the 4 MMCs.

author is 12

This was written by a middle schooler. Seriously I made it to page 17 and I couldn’t do it. It’s like a hallmark movie with the main characters pointing out everything “you don’t want him telling Julian(I think that’s his name) because sure he’s really brutal”

I seriously couldn’t do it

Lee is such a badass💪🏼❤️

For the most part, this is a very interesting story even though I’m not a huge fan of the bullying bullshit🤨apparently this whole “scholarship program” is a huge coverup for them being sacrificed?!👀um mmkay that’s not creepy at all…anyways I’ll keep reading unless it gets to a batshit crazy train wreck lol

Not what I expected

This book starts really slowly and I felt like giving up, the characters and plot are really immature and I didn't feel the writting closed well. I wasn't gripped but through sheet laziness I stuck with it and it did get better. I'm not compelled to jump right in to the next book, but I will read it when I'm stuck for something to download and read.

Good storyline

This is pretty good. Although, there is no spice or any hint of it. The characters are interesting and this book keeps you enthralled. This book is probably made more for teens than adults and not as dark than what I am used to. The writing is good. I would not recommend if you are more into spicy and darker themes.

Wow. It was slow at first and I was getting tired of the Lee buckling under the bullying with little fight after. but then it pumped the gas hard. I'm intrigued by all the guys and the underlying story with the school. All very good. Decent cliff hanger. Spice isn't really here yet but there were some good moments. so I'll give it one chili pepper.

Alpha Gods of Silverton, book one of the Academy Gods series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). This series had a very unusual story line and it got more complex throughout the series. This first installment set the stage with building the world and placing the characters you love to hate. Well done, I was drawn right in.

First of three books. It’s good. There’s set up about the school. I wasn’t sure why Lee had to enroll in the school to then save her brother but you find out towards the end about their nefarious plans.

I know the alpha gods can’t sense their true mate, but I wonder why Barb (what a wolf name 🙄) can’t sense them and is certain it’s not them.

I’m not sure if this was a good book or not but it kept me wanting more. Storyline is a bit slow. And a lot of information is hidden still, so many unanswered questions! Stop suddenly. Definite going to see if there’s a book 2!
