The Tasmanian ex-ALP Senator’s 1992 political thriller hums along and the Tasmanian settings are authentic with some real Labor politicians, journalists and Hobart restaurants mentioned (sometimes unnecessarily and awkwardly). The plot focuses on the Franklin Dam decision of 1980-82 and the corruption and backroom manoeuvrings, testing the resources of a PR man seconded to a Minister ambivalent about the dam’s construction. Despite what is really an insignificant theme on a world-wide scale, it’s an interesting novel
