Four friends, the "Science Adventure Club," get together for a weekend on an island for some fun and learning. One of them is visiting from Australia which lends additional perspective and knowledge. They explore a wide variety of topics from plankton, the water cycle, tides, seaweed, and sirenians and pinnipeds, to upwelling, abysses, coral, and buoyancy.
The last part of the book focuses on waste: how long does it take for items to break down, what happens to waste in the ocean, and what can be done about it.
This offers a lot of engaging information in a format that students can't get enough of right now. It is a good way to begin research or get ideas for projects.
*Note: potential problems, possibly due to translation issues: 1) the claim that humans are the oceans biggest predators 2) the claim that humans are the only beings on the planet that produce waste
