Supreme Justice: A Novel Of Suspense

Rate this book
Young U.S. attorney Marshall Jackson is handed the biggest case of his career when Supreme Court Justice Farrel Douglas is gunned down in Detroit. Conservative Justice Douglas had more than a few enemies in the city's African-American community, and no one is surprised when one of its most notorious radical activists is charged with the crime. But when contradictory evidence turns up that suggests there is more to the murder than meets the eye, Marshall is forced to take the investigation into his own hands, aided by his childhood-friend-turned-cop Danny Cavanaugh. They discover there is one other person who can nail the killer, a man whom Marshall hates -- Moses, a hardened street criminal...and his twin brother. Marshall will risk everything to follow a twisted trail of guilt, suspicion, and murder straight up the political ranks to a dangerous -- and unexpected -- source.

A Clarence Thomas - type Supreme Court justice is murdered and everyone thinks that it was because of his politics. In his rise throughout his career. the dead justice took the advantages set in place to help minorities. Once he got what he wanted he turned his back on the people by going ultra conservative and not backing laws set up to help people of color. One man steps up to claim responsibility for the murder and is charged with the crime. The attorney prosecuting the case figures out that something is not right, and thus started a good investigation with some colorful characters to solve the mystery. It was a good read.

That's the simple description of what is a more complex story of multiple story lines involving race, personal relationships and conspiracy.

I love legal procedurals but so many of them, like this one, turn out to be 10% legal and 90% violence.
