Arthur Arthur, a professional killer, finds his icy control over his violent life threatened when he unexpectedly falls in love and tours his traumatic childhood in an effort to find answers
A Harvard graduate, Branon spent 23 years in the military, including a stint in Naval Intelligence. He's widely know for his two action novels, Devils Hole, a bestseller for HarperCollins, and Let Us Prey, a New York Times "Notable Book of the Year." Branon lives in Las Vegas with his wife, Lolly.
In Devils Hole, a scarred warrior turned modern-day avenger sees his icy, almost superhuman control threatened by the one thing he never expected: falling in love. With a background as a master sniper in Vietnam and a portfolio of nightmares, Arthur roams the country dealing swift justice to society's predators. An unstoppable juggernaut once he gets a contract, Arthur's "signature" is to devise a death that fits the victim's crime. But in Las Vegas, he confronts his most daunting target yet, just as he stumbles on the woman who can make him whole again. Predator and prey, and the woman who stands between them -- in Devils Hole each will be terrifyingly tested as intense passion and violence collide.
This had a VERY brutal beginning. Infact, I didn't even get past page 20!
Beginning with the Barnum and Bailey Fire at Hartford in 1948, and on to gambling in Vegas viewed through the lives of characters delineated sometimes menacing , sometimes loving. This was an education for me of the Vegas Casino numbers game. I lost the point but it tied together at the end.
Devils Hole is named after a real life place in the desert near Las Vegas. I had never heard of the author, Bill Branon. I bought this book off a clearance shelf probably years ago.
