In this readable, succinct volume, Keith Fournier portrays the young virgin of Nazareth in a fresh light as an antidote to the spiritual ills of the age. The Prayer of Mary presents humility, simplicity, and selfless love as fitting responses to the loving invitation of God, who visits people in their daily lives and invites them into a relationship with Him.
This book is very deceiving. It looks like an easy read and it is (nice short chapters). I actually tried reading it once before and it didn't sink in. This time I was doing research for a half day retreat that I was presenting at, so I started the book again and outlined each chapter. Wow, that was the key that unlocked the hidden treasures of this book! I lived with this book for several months, going through it slowly and it has really changed my life. The whole idea of surrendering my life to God like the Virgin Mary did is very much a part of my life now and has really changed the way I think.
There was one other book that was a deceptively easy read full of treasures and that was The 7 Secrets of the Eucharist by Vinny Flynn. Another 5 star read!
I have the pleasure of knowing Deacon Keith Fournier personally. He is a charismatic and passionate man of Faith. This book is a little gem and well worth reading and savoring over and over again. It is a simple look into the exemplary life of Mary. She indeed is our inspiration and our model for a life of "surrendered love" and prayerful relationship with our Lord.
This book deals with the theology of Mary's yes to the Archangle Gabriel's request. It also challenges the reader to make Mary's eagerness to answer God's challenging call a part of our lives today.
