In grief we find ourselves in our weakest moments. We feel that we are fighting to keep our chins up and noses above the water to breathe. All our efforts sometimes seem to be in vain. As we struggle, we sink as if trapped in sinking sand. But if we stay still, the undercurrent continues to pull us down and under to suffocate and die. We must be uprooted or be pulled out as Jesus was from the tomb. He was put in the grave or tomb straight from the cross, but needed to yield his spirit first (Matthew 27:50b) to God the Father, who resurrected him—“raised him from the dead” (Galatians 1:1, NKJV). The persons who are grieving also seem helpless as the victims. They too need to yield in such weak moments and be ready to be strengthened by the Lord God. God says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness,” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Jesus assures and promises us when we mourn or grieve "Blessed Are Those Who Mourn, for They Will be Comforted” (Matthew 5:4). This book points out how those in grief are comforted and embraced by the Holy Spirit and what we can say and do as we stand beside our loved ones in their grief.
