Boomer's Big Day

Rate this book
Boomer's ready for his morning walk. Here's his leash. There's the door. But try as he might, he can't get anyone to pay attention to him. The humans in the house don't rush out the door after breakfast as they normally do. And, most confusing of all, strangers arrive to pack all the things in Boomer's house into boxes. There's definitely something unusual going on. The simple text and heartwarming pictures charmingly depict Boomer's confusion, anxiety, concern, and ultimate delight on this day familiar to allmoving day.

I loved this book as a child because I moved across the country at a young age, so my mom read this book to me a lot to help me feel better about the move. It’s very sweet and lets young children know that even if they are moving far away, they will be okay and adjust to their new surroundings. This book really reassured me when I was young, and I’m sure it reassured lots of other children who went through the same thing.

One day, Boomer the dog wakes up and nothing is the same like it usually is! Strangers are packing things up. His house is suddenly empty. It takes him awhile before he realizes that he and his family have moved.

Es una historia tierna. Lo mejor son las ilustraciones, que son súper bonitas.

I had a love/hate relationship with this series as a kid. My mom got us these books because we had goldens, specifically our own golden named Boomer. The owners are always nessing with poor Boomer! I always felt sorry & so stressed for his confusion or sadness. As a kid I thought to myself, I'd take so much better care of Boomer. Thankfully, everything works out in the end to my immense relief.

Boomer's Big Day is a book about a dog who wakes up one morning and nothing is the same. Everyone is hustling around the house and none of his stuff is in the right spot. Boomer then gets in a big truck with all of the families belongings and heads off leaving their house behind. After driving for a long time, Boomer and his family arrive to a new house. The family lets Boomer out to explore and he finds a new friend. Boomer realizes that the concern that he had about leaving and things changing was not needed and that his new house is really cool. This is a great book to help young children understand moving and make them not feel scared or upset by it. Although Boomer was confused and concerned at the beginning, he had nothing to worry about and even made a friend. Boomer's Big Day is an easy book to read for younger children learning to read. It has simple vocabulary and is easy to understand. The pictures are entertaining and allow students to stay engaged and enjoy reading the book. Boomer's Big Day is a great book to read and can be a good resource to help calm children's nerves before moving or making a big change in their life.

This is a simple and easy book for young children. It will give a sense of comfort for children who are going through a moving experience. Simple and easy vocabulary and good for new readers. Illustrations are fun and colorful engaging for children. I think children will enjoy this book a good book to use when having a theme about animals.

I read this book to my four-year-old grandson just about every time he comes to visit. This is a cute book that tells the travels of a dog and a boy that moves to a new place. I would recommend this book.

Boomer is waiting for his morning walk after breakfast, but other activities are happening in the household. This tale is about the confusion, and anxiety of moving day through the eyes and thoughts of a family pet.

This book is about a dogs owner, moving. That’s all I’m gonna say, but the dog is adorable!! If you have moved before, this is the just right book for you!!

cute book that might help children through moving houses, could also lead students into a discussion on their pets and what they might be thinking while at home

Very cute and easy to read digitally. However, book never really explains what happens during the move. It’s all from the dog’s perspective, which is cute but doesn’t describe what moving is

Oh. My. God. The nostalgia I got from seeing this book at the store nearly made me cry. This was one of my favorite books when I was a kid. I am so happy I found it! Such a good book.

I enjoyed this book!! Moving can be hard on people and animals, too, but it is also so comforting to know that even when you move, you still have so many amazing opportunities!!

I bought this book for Kaitlyn and I to read since we will be moving twice in the next few months. We're moving from our house to an apartment while our new house is being built. And hopefully we'll be moving into the new house before Christmas. Since she's only four years old, she's been a little confused about the moves and thinks that we will have all new things (and toys!) in each new living space.

So, I guess it would be fair to say that Kaitlyn identified well with Boomer the dog. She loved that he was clueless as to what was going on. The fact that movers came to pack Boomer's family's belongings up was a big plus for us, as we are having packers as well. Kaitlyn loved the illustrations (and I did too!), especially the faces Boomer and the family cat make as the move progresses.

Boomer's Big Day was such a sweet book. I believe that it helped clarify a few confusing things about moving for Kaitlyn. Besides that, we both really enjoyed it! There are other Boomer books and we will definitely be reading more of his stories.

This was a cute book from our "dog books" library bundle. Boomer look so sweet, and the illustrations are definitely the highlight of this book. I was reminded of my own cross-country move with my dog and cat, and it was fun to read this and think about their perspective.

Pleasant story about a dog moving to a new house. Thanks for letting the kids figure out he's moving. Show not telling in a picture book, woot!

Good story time read for K-1. They'll sit for it.

Yep, you have to say Boomer a few too many times.

This book really helped us as we explained our cross-country move with a 3-year-old. Over a year and a half later, it's still a favorite.

I work at Penguin Random House. That did not influence this review.

It's moving day for Boomer's family, but all Boomer wants to do is play ball. Is there no end to this confusing day?
