Super cute! I liked how the introduction of Rio into their lives turned out to be a lovely preview of what parenthood would look like for them. Also, the progress in their relationship was lovely to see. This is probably one of the slowest burns that ever slow burned lol.

A smidge of progress is made in the main relationship, but a good chunk of the book is given over to a ditzy new character -- an old acquaintance of Ruriko's -- who couch surfs into their apartment for a few days.

Slow, gentle, and cozy. Maybe a little too much of each . . . but it's holding my interest for now.

Ruriko and Kurumi’s relationship might be knocked for a loop when an old friend of Ruriko’s shows up and seems to know much more about Ruriko than Kurumi does. Jealousy flares! For about two minutes.

The dreaded rival storyline rears its head and gets quickly turned into something much more amusing and that makes this probably my favourite volume of the series to date.

Rio is a hot mess, a broke couch surfer who is as immature as our leads are grown up. You can tell from the get-go that Ruriko is far more annoyed with Rio than she is anything else, but that’s a lot more emotion than we typically see from her.

But to Kurumi it’s no different than if Rio did swoop in like a lost lover, since Rio knows the sides of Ruriko that Kurumi doesn’t. It’s a prelude to some incredibly silly stuff to come.

Basically, our main couple ends up functioning as surrogate parents to somebody in dire need of growing up. As much of a pain as Rio can be, there’s something touching about their camaraderie.

More importantly, it manages to move things forward for all the characters. Kurumi gets a reminder that Ruriko has been in love with her for years now and those house rules might be for Kurumi’s protection only.

Ruriko finally gets to hear something very important as well, as Kurumi starts to acknowledge her own feelings. Plus, they really make a strong case for date nights in a relationship, which is terribly cute.

And Rio ends up in a better place, taking a tentative step to being a functioning adult, and we’re definitely adding in a potential second relationship that’s pretty charming, if underbaked as yet, to boot.

This has never been (and will never be) the hardest hitting series in the yuri-sphere, but it bumps itself up a notch this volume. Developing its characters a little more fully by giving them a surprisingly decent third wheel to bounce off of, who doesn’t go down a predictable path, was a smart call.

4 stars - there’s more substance to it this time around and it mixes some better emotional heft into its good vibes this time out. It’s still pretty frothy, but it does a lot amidst that and has some real depth beneath it.

This volume was sooo cute in every way :') There was a lot of focus on Kurumi's feelings and perspective, and through that, I feel like I can really see her falling in love with Ruriko in her own way and becoming protective of the special thing that they have together.
This is such a cozy, lovely read, I really love these two and their sleepovers and bonding days. It just makes me happy!

So we're on volume 3, and I'm still not sure if this is meant to be a romance? It feels really platonic, to the point where it doesn't even come off as slowburn. Oh well, it's cute and feelgood, either way. And I love the way this artist draws.

I’m still enjoying this very sweet domestic slice-of-life story. I'm going to complain a bunch below, but I am still having a good time. (Also, I wrote a really long ramble before, but I rewrote it.)

Imagine: It’s “I Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.” Chuck and Larry are presumably-straight friends who get married. You presume Chuck and Larry know what straight marriage regularly entails. But you don’t know if they know that gay people exist.

You know the author knows that gay people exist (Chuck and Larry keep flirting.) So what is happening here? Is something asexual afoot? (If so, great.) Is this shenanigans turned a slow-burn gay romance? (If so, great.) Or is this literally a series about friends who think gay marriage is about friendship?? (I mean……… a same-sex friendship marriage is subversive enough to interest me, but like… in their minds... is it straight marriage (romantic and sexual) vs. gay marriage (friendship)??? I don't like that!)

I’m still here reading. I’m having a good time. I feel like the author set up some parameters for herself or some goals in her storytelling that didn’t translate. It’s probably important to remember that this is a Japanese series for a Japanese audience, and Japan doesn’t have gay marriage. So this series might be trying to be sensitive about an active political conversation that I have no awareness of.

I had a similar feeling with Shio Usui’s other series I read, Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon, where basically I was unsure if the characters’ complex feelings were because of an asexuality angle (yay) or because the narrative believed women’s romantic relationships are invalid/inferior (boo). And the ending to that series ultimately happily satisfied my uncertainty. (Though "Doughnuts" was a lot less confusing, because the characters weren't telling us they were married.) So I do trust the author to get me through this, but she is putting me through it, lol.

More of a 3.5 star rating;
There wasn’t too much relationship progression between Kurumi and Ruriko, but I did like the new character that was introduced. I also like that there wasn’t any miscommunication between Kurumi and Ruriko, and that the new character that was introduced ended up being a funny ally to the couple and not a love rival.
Overall, I’m curious to see what happens in this next and final volume.

I cannot stand Rio, she's so annoying and awful. If her purpose is to bring out Ruriko's motherly side I'd rather there was a cat or a puppy or not someone just 3 years younger who insists on being infantilised to the point of (joke) begging to be adopted. Jealousy plots are also something I dislike and since that seems to be Rio's other purpose it's three strikes. Enjoyed the fifth of the book she wasn't dominating though...

With the introduction of a character from Ruriko's past, this installment actually seems to add some weight to the conflict the married ladies face. Kurumi actually feels a bit of jealousy and worries she doesn't know her beloved wife as good as she thought she did. It makes the more vanilla aspects of this relationship feel deserved as they realize they do work as a couple.

I loved seeing a different side to Ruriko and Kurumi's relationship and how they dealt with their feelings of jealousy. Instead of getting angry, they talked and opened up about how they were feeling and supported one another. The little 'I love you' parts were really sweet and I can't wait to read the last volume when it comes out.

I was super thrown by the introduction of Rio, but I ended up loving her as much as I love Kurumi and Ruriko. The little moments between our heroines were so sweet in this one, I was giggling and kicking my feet the whole freakin' time! I'm pretty sure there's only one more volume after this one and I have no idea how the mangaka is going to resolve this. But I can't wait to see where it goes!

GOD I FUCKING LVOED THIS MANGA IT WAS SO CUTE I ADORED IT SO MUCH. kurumi is absolutely aroace-spec to me and i LOOOVE how she was written it was so nice to read. everything about this manga was so lovely... i love how the problems were confronted within the chapters, the communication between them felt really nice to read. even if they did go through hurdles and issues with miscommunication, everything was nicely fixed with each other and it was just so refreshing to see that. the romantic moments between them were also so cute, i'm honestly kind of picky w/ how i read romance (but i still like yuri manga a lot, most of my favs are just slowburn lmao) but how it was delivered in this manga was sooooooo nice!! tbh i don't really have much to say for a super detailed review i just found it absolutely adorable. full 5 stars for me because it was just such a pleasant read...! i think my only criticism for it was me wishing there could've been more before the jump to the last chapter maybe? it didn't necessarily feel rushed i just think like an extra chapter or two in between would've been nice maybe. regardless of that i still enjoyed it. i definitely fully recommend!!
