Talking Tradition — 2.5 stars

Did I read that right? The one character was some kind of super genius who was a senior in high school even though he was 12 years old? And he’s passing Valentines to a freshman girl? 12 and 14-15 is a HUGE age gap at that age! I didn’t like the main female character either. The best part of the story for me was the author’s humorous disastrous Valentine’s Day date she recounted at the end.

Duet — 2 stars

Phew! The second hand embarrassment was strong in this one! Chaz wasn’t the brightest. I mean, I guess it does illustrate that not every Valentine’s Day is a happy one. Also, a reminder that LDRs are the worst. Especially in 1997 when this was written when there were no cell phones, just “long distance” calling on a landline phone!

Will You Be My Valentine? — 4 stars

Okay, that one was cute! I liked that the author’s note at the end was partially inspired by true events. I liked that there was a little lesson in there too.

Wrong Romeo — 3 stars

It was cute enough, but the declarations of love came out of nowhere. There was some problematic language and the relationship she had with her teacher was kind of weird.

A compilation of four authors Valentine's stories Be Mine are romantic yet humorous short stories of the different romances that can come alive on Valentines Day. These stories are romantic tales that don't seem to have any other moral but that of "dreams coming true". There really doesn't seem to be a deeper meaning to be found within these stories unless you want to dive into the dangers of living in a dream world and romance addictions. But i don't believe these are why the book was compiled. I feel it is meant to be a fun selection of romantic novels to be read around Valentine's day. I don't know how well the young men will take to these short stories, but i believe the young women would love this fun compilation.
