This lavishly illustrated volume of the imaginative interior spaces designed by visionary American architect Frank Lloyd Wright showcases his unique ability to create a building in harmony with its surrounding environment. Featured in this comprehensive volume are many of the designs that would earn him a reputation for genius. Acclaimed architectural photographers Thomas Heinz and Balthazar Korab capture the revolutionary impact that Wright's body of work had, and continues to have, on the craft that was his avocation. Their images pay tribute to the man who has been called the single greatest influence on twentieth-century design.
As a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture, this book satisfied a desire to see more detail on a variety of his houses and buildings. The book does a good job of balancing FLW's earlier projects with his later Prairie and Textile Block designs, though I was more excited to see the imagery and information on his later works. The photography is excellent and the information and sources are very strong. A great value for curious readers and architecture fans as well as those doing specific research.
I enjoyed this book. It illustrated Wright's most memorable works and highlighted aspects of his approach to architecture. The photos in the book complimented the text and vise versa. This book does not go into detail about any specific work of Wright's but instead tries to focus on select principals.
If you are an admirer of Frank Loyd Wright then this is a decent book. The collection of pictures is amazing, many showing less well known Wright works. The problem, and reason I only gave it 3 stars, is in the writing. Not that the writing is bad either. It is highly descriptive. The author will go into great detail of various Wright projects but the pictures on the page or even the following pages are not of what the author has just written about. I found this to be annoying. Great pictures disorganized book.
Well written, but as Allen Perry noted in his review... the project photos do not line up with the text, which makes one do a lot of page flipping. Hats off to the photographers who captured the spirit of Frank's great designs. Korab, Rocheleau & Ziga
