If you like Beta Heroes this book is for you.
Lili Alster is looking for an escort to be her companion for a week. Since her boyfriend passed away three years ago, her family pressures her to date and get on with her life. Desperate for them to get off of her back, she lies and tells them she is engaged. When they insist on her bringing her finance' on the family vacation, she decides to go to an escort service to convince her family she really is in a relationship.
Instead of picking the most handsome, she picks a man who has the "boy next door" quality.
Hal Kessler has been down on his luck. His wife ran off with his business partner, and he is looking to start a new life. He decides to go back to school to start a new career, but since his wife cleaned out his account he works part time (VERY) as an escort. (don't let the escort thing scare you, you'll understand when you read the book)
What I liked about Hal is he not your typical hero. He is very clumsy, he doesn't always say the right thing, he is not particularly great at sports, he is not the most confidant of men and gets his feelings hurt at times. He is an all around NICE GUY (the kiss of death for most)
I liked Lili and Hal together. This story had some very funny moments. There were also times I wanted to shake Lili to appreciate the Nice Guy in front of her.
If you are looking for a quick and easy read, this book is for you. If you are looking for a story where the Nice Guy finishes first, you will like this book. I did.
