Summary: The narrator claims to have been a princess before she was kidnapped by bandits. She compares her life as a princess to the life that she leads now. In the end, she is grateful for the family she has.
Uses: only independent reading to those who show an interest in the subject (recommend others first)
Literary Devices: alliteration, hyperbole
Social issues: Being apart of a family, pretending to be better than others
Other: This is a cute story, but it offers little in the department of literary critique. I would recommend it to some students who show an interest in the subject, but would not use it otherwise.
Actually, I Used to Be a Princess is a story where the main character states that she hasn’t always had the life she has now, that she used to be a princess but was kidnapped and left with her current family. This is a good book to use for comparing and contrasting as the girl spends the book comparing her former life with her current. I like this book because in the end she realizes that being a princess was not all it was cracked up to be, and she prefers the life she has now.
