As he's traveled from one side of this country to the other, Grizzard has found that the size of a man's--or a woman's--soul can't always be measured by the width of their saddle.
Interesting book about saving the South American 1 tree at a time. There is a slight misunderstanding with the 3 animals of the rainforest and Santa. But now there is someone on their side!
This is an environmentally conscious holiday story, wherein a group of rain forest dwelling animal friends happen upon some Christmas cards, totally misinterpret the tone of Christmas to mean that Santa is all about giving away trees in exchange for presents, and decide to gather some presents for Santa to exchange for a pine tree. It really took me by surprise, and I was a really happy with the result. It would be a fun story to share with children. They would be completely hooked with trying to correct the animals' mistake and would get a good lesson on environmental stewardship in the process. Cleverly done.
The kids (6-year-old boys) would probably rate this a little lower than me, because the story was still a little above their heads. They were fans of Santa. Duh. I was a fan of Bill, just Bill. So witty, so smart, so touching. Imagine we will come back to this one again and again before all is said and done.
