Richard Laymon was born in Chicago and grew up in California. He earned a BA in English Literature from Willamette University, Oregon and an MA from Loyola University, Los Angeles. He worked as a schoolteacher, a librarian, and a report writer for a law firm, and was the author of more than thirty acclaimed novels.
He also published more than sixty short stories in magazines such as Ellery Queen, Alfred Hitchcock, and Cavalier, and in anthologies including Modern Masters of Horror.
He died from a massive heart attack on February 14, 2001 (Valentine's Day).
This was a fun short horror story. Only 26 pages. Not to be compared to Laymon's other books. This seems more like YA horror. Nora has 2 flat tires late at night. She finds a cabin and decides to ask for help there. That was not a good idea...
I'm not a huge fan of short stories as they end just as they start to become interesting. This is a prime example. Loved the set up but then... The End... 3 stars for the idea I guess?
This fastback is a wonderful tale that borrows from Lovecraft's Pickman's Model. Nora is driving to her friends house late at night. She runs into Steve and things get very interesting. I really enjoyed this one.
