i love women

This is a useful collection of quotes from famous women. The quotes themselves are mostly insightful observations on women and life’s hopes and challenges and as such many are inspirational. These quotes are from women straddling several centuries and they all seem relevant in their own way today; of course, some “work” better than others. The variability of the quotes is evident but in fairness having all quotes be of the highest standards is an unrealistic high bar.
I have read this collection several times. Even though a short book it is better to dip in to the content and read a few quotes than to sit and read them all. Some are definitely worthy remembering and even sharing with others when an appropriate situation arises (or just whenever). One of my favorites is from Gloria Vanderbilt (1924-2019) who is quoted as saying “that is the best - to laugh with someone because you both think the same things are funny.” And, another “Tears may be dried up, but the heart - never” from Marguerite De Valois (1553-1615).

June 17, 2023The Introduction states that the quotes assembled in this collection don't "express a single viewpoint", and the book as a whole certainly delivered on that promise. A 'look before you leap' type of quote by Charlotte Bronte was paired with a 'seize the moment' type of quote from Jane Austen.
However, I didn't enjoy this book as much as I expected, and I think the reason was because the tone seemed so very serious. The collected quotes are definitely insightful and thought-provoking. But as a reader, I tend to prefer quote books with a touch of humor, and this book was sadly lacking in light-heartedness. Even the quotes that tried to be humorous came across as too pointed, in my opinion.
Although I did find beauty in the art style that was used for the illustrations.
Did I like it? Not as much as I thought I would.
Would I reread it? Probably not.
Would I recommend it? That would depend on the personality and the preferences of the potential reader.

This is a fun, tiny little book filled with quotes from women (hence the title) and I found it as a really fun exercise to go through the quotes with one of my female characters in mind and flag the quotes that stood out to her.

Most of these people are dead now. Pretty good quotes though. Some really make you think, others are just kind of there.

A cute little book with notable quotes by women from different walks of life. It is truly a "mini" book. Amazing that the author fit so much into it! It is illustrated although the illustrations are not notable.

I love little books of quotes like this. Some of my favourites from this one:

A mini book of quotes by women. Took about 20 minutes to read conscientiously. Most of the quoted women are famous (Martha Washington, Mother Theresa, Anais Nin) and a few are not, but this doesn't make the quote any less important.
