The New Quotable Woman: The Definitive Treasury of Notable Words by Women from Eve to the Present

Rate this book
With over 15,000 quotes from more than 2,500 women, this is the definitive treasury of both familiar and unexpected quotations by women on nearly every subject imaginable--friendship, love, politics, religion, education, the arts, and women's role in society--in one comprehensive, accessible volume. History's most famous--and infamous--women appear on these pages, including Susan B. Anthony, Marie Antoinette, Mae West, Jane Austen, Angela Davis, and Cleopatra, as well as many lesser known but equally quotable women. For easy reference, the book is arranged chronologically and contains several helpful indexes--biographical, quotations by subject, and personalities listed by career/occupation and ethnicity/nationality. With quotes taken from books, speeches, letters, the media, and films, this often humorous, frequently controversial, and always provocative volume is an essential addition to every library--and an inspiring testament to the power of women.

Has some wonderful quotes and nice artwork, some more serious than others. Here are two of my favorite quotes...

"Life ought to be a struggle of desire toward adventures whose nobility will fertilize the soul." Rebecca West (pg. 28)

and...

"Distance doesn't matter; it's only the first step that is difficult." Marie de Vichy-Chamrond (pg. 103)
