“A witty and compassionate coming-of-age tale . . . a noble lesson in growing up.”— The Hartford Courant
The story of the adventures of Danny Levine, Mousey Stern, and Newt Biddle growing up together in Southern California back in 1962, Kiddo is a novel of the California ’60s that you will want to read aloud to your friends, give to people who lived through it, and cherish as a memory of a better—and worse—times.
David Handler, who began his career in New York as a journalist, was born and raised in Los Angeles and published two highly acclaimed novels about growing up there, Kiddo and Boss, before resorting to a life of crime fiction.
I literally read this book on accident because I thought this book was written by a completely different author, and yet I kept reading once I figured that out so... that's something! Also, despite how weird this reading experience was, I feel like aspects of this book really resonated with me. I wouldn't say it's for everyone, but it was definitely a unique reading experience and I'm glad I read it.
