Kate began reading romance in 1979 when she picked up a copy of Kathleen Woodiwiss's Ashes in the Wind. She read the book from cover to cover in one very long night and was immediately hooked on the genre.

The next morning, she was standing at the door to her local Waldenbooks and when they opened, she hurried inside and asked for everything else written by Woodiwiss. At the same time, she found wonderful books by Rosemary Rogers, Laurie McBain, and Jennifer Blake.

Nearly 10 years later, while working as an advertising copywriter, Kate decided to try writing a romance of her own. After a history of interesting jobs in teaching, retailing, advertising, and nonprofit work, she was determined to add romance author to that list.

After numerous failed attempts over three years, Kate decided to forget writing historical romance and turned to category romance. Six months later, her first story, A Vagabond Heart, was finished. A year later, Harlequin bought the book after Kate won the national 1992 Harlequin Temptation contest. The book was published in 1993 as Indecent Exposure.

Her dream of adding romance writer to her resume came true and in December of 1993 she turned off her alarm clock, shredded her pantyhose, and became a full-time writer.

Since then, Kate has written numerous books for Temptation, Weddings by DeWilde, Harlequin anthologies, Love and Laughter, and Duets. Her new Duet, Three Babies and a Bargain (July 2000) will be her 24th project for Harlequin and All Through the Night (August 2000), a Temptation Blaze, will mark her 25th.

Kate lives in southeastern Wisconsin in a cozy little house in a picturesque village. Two cats also live with her—Tansing, a grumpy Himalayan, and Tibriz, a tortie Persian mix that she rescued from an animal shelter. She enjoys gardening, golf, reading, and romantic movies.

I had fun watching Nan & Riley fall in love in 10 days. Nan came over from Wisconsin to Ireland to find Carey who had for years wrote letters back and forth to her mom. Nan's mom died when she was 8 and was sick two years before that. Her father died last year.
So Nan thought she could learn about her mom through Carey. Nan is a librarian at University.
Riley runs the family bar in summer while his parents travel. Riley is also a songwriter and singer with his own band.
Nan found out why she had so unusual name Tiernan. She did find a picture of her mom in Riley's pub. Ireland does sound fun to visit. Nan learns and grows a lot and thinks it will be so hard to leave Ireland.
Even though it has a lot of the same things in them that a lot of books set in Ireland do family pub. family of artists of one kind or another, cemetary and sheep ect. It still was a good fast romance and a lot of making love scenes.
I look forward to reading about Riley's brothers. I was given this ebook in exchange for honest review.

Setting: college library and safe house in Madison, Wisconsin; Balleykirk, in County Cork, Ireland – cottage, pub, countryside (ocean, stream, ruins, cemetaries, etc);

Theme: falling in love; a love that expands self-imposed boundaries;

Characters:
Riley Quinn: middle son; singer / songwriter; ladies man; bartender;

Kellan and Danny and Shanna and Claire: Quinn siblings; all help out at pub; Kellan – lawyer/banker?; Danny – artist, mostly iron;

Teirnan ‘Nan’ Galvin: a male name – though she doesn’t find out until she makes it to Ireland; father older than mother; mother died when she was 8; mother a light, fun loving, warm person; father loving, but more reserved; love(s)(d) books, and became a librarian – college archives; a staid, quiet life; when father died, found a box of mom’s mementos of her trip to Ireland – and letters from Carey; she decides to follow in her mother’s footsteps, and maybe look up Carey (picturing an older woman);

Summary:
Humorous beginning – she gets off plane, it was late, someone from Ballykirk to meet her, but no sign; she goes out and is panicking, not having budgeting for transport… and a man leaning against the wall starts to flirt with her, and when they realize that they he is there to pick her up… he was picturing an older woman.. and when she asks why, it was because of fussy emails wanting assurances that there wouldn’t be living or dead bugs in the cottage, it would be clean, etc. they have words… get to car, and then start over…

And they spend her 10 days together – starting night 2, day and night; he wakes up energized and inspired to write music; she is free in his arms, she gives up her itinerary and puts herself in his hands, exploring the non-touristy parts; he is scheduled to sing one night at the pub, and she sees how good he is, how the fans love him, and he sings a special song he wrote for her; she finds a picture of her mother and some young men on the pub wall of pictures – and ask around, and find out that one boy is Teirnan, and his father is Carey; she is hesitant to follow the clues… but a few days before she is to leave, she strikes out on her own, and heads to Carey… chickens out, stops at a cemetery, meets an elderly man – Carey - and finds out that he is her grandfather, that her son was shocked when told her mother was pregnant – she left – when he came to his senses, she was married, and he went a bit wild, dying a few months later in an accident; Carey and her mother exchanged letters – mostly about nan – and he has pictures of her displayed in his house; she is a bit overwhelmed, and figuring on how she will come back to see him…

And Nan and Riley are in love – he asks her to stay longer, she says she must leave – but will return; she finally confides that maybe college librarian is not her passion (she wrote a children’s book), but she feels she needs to go back to make sure her feelings are true… and he takes her to the airport, she starts through customs… she thinks about him, about how much she loves him, about the celtic ring he gave her… and she grabs her bags, and heads out of the airport, looking for a cab to take her back… and while negotiating, a hand taps her on the shoulder, and he is waiting for her – planning to wait until the plane took off… ahhh

**Originally, I listened to this through my Blaze subscription on Audible THEN I got a print version through NetGalley and Harlequin. Cool!**

Remember when I said Blaze was most miss (on the Hit or Miss) scale lately? Well, this one was actually a "Hit."

Yes, it was your predictable romance novel set in Ireland-I'm OKAY with that, thank you! There was an incident with sheep, artistic family members, brooding older brother, enviable marriage of the hero's 'rents, a pub (family-owned, of course), and the American of Irish-descent "looking" for something. I could name at least two books (one by Nora Roberts; the other I think is another Blaze title) with the SAME elements.

If it ain't broke, you know?

This book, for a Blaze title, crammed some depth and honest emotion-beyond lust-into its limited space. The writing on the wall was plain with regard to her paternal heritage-give me a break-but it was a thoughtful journey to walk with her. I did want to smack Nan more than once because, seriously, she was just TSTL when it came to her relationship with Riley...or was she just acting normally, and I am used to these wanton women throwing caution (and hearts) to the wind looking for hot sex-I mean love? No, our Nan drug her feet and tried to deny what was plain to the whole freaking world-they loved each other AND the sex was good.

Riley said it first ("I love you"), btw, and I LIKED that. I get so tired of the woman always putting her heart out there and the guy being the one with the issues, or both characters are just TSTL and you just wanna smack them all!

This fast, fun, sexy little book is actually part of a series that began a decade ago under the Temptation label. I feel a trip to the UBS coming on!!

It's the accent, ya know? Does it for me every time.

A cute, easy peasy read where the hero, Riley Quinn and the heroine, Nan Galvin are actually very likeable, even-tempered characters who realize straight away they have an attraction, have no hang ups or issues about getting together and enjoy a romping ten days of wonderful sex. But Nan has to go back to the U.S. and Riley is dreading the moment and can't understand why Nan is so casual about it (she's apparently just good at hiding it). There's absolutely no UST here - these two postpone the big event for a bit just to keep the sparks flying, but there's no angstiness getting in their way. Very straightforward in the romance department. The ending was a bit of a let down, but still pretty good.

There is an extremely predictable secondary plot in which Nan is looking for people who knew her mother back when she'd visited 27 years ago and she learns a bit about her mother and for that matter, herself. Her reaction to what she learns is a little underwhelming, considering. I'm not sure if I found it refreshing or if I was disappointed at the lost opportunity for some good old fashioned angst, but it was decidedly different from the norm.

It's slightly jarring to realise that you're actually at that prime age where romance heroines usually find their panty dropping heroes and live happily ever after. Or older and single still. This happened to me yesterday.

Kate Hoffmann has been writing about the Quinns for over a decade now, but I can't remember stumbling on this series before. Maybe it's because Harlequin Temptation series isn't a favourite of my mother's and thus I didn't get to steal, uh, borrow, her copies to read. Even without confirmed prior knowledge I could see that Hoffman has perfected her recipe for the Quinn books:

There's the cute meet, there are the introspective scenes to introduce the characters, there's the semblance of a plot, and of course, there is an abundance of erotica with clichés.

Although, the thing holding the scenes together was spider web thin, it held - the material is supposed to be stronger than steel of equal thickness after all. So while the plot was on the lighter side, I really enjoyed Hoffmann's writing. I loved the clashing of two cultures - despite its immediate vaporising at the heat of erotic attraction - and I loved the easy and enchanting dialogue.

If you prefer literature with substance steer away, but if you enjoy a quick and light read with steamy scenes and insta love, spend few hours with the Quinns.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

Research librarian Nan Galvin discovers a box of letters in her mother's things and learns the woman had corresponded with a person called Corey. Since losing both her parents, she has an overwhelming desire to learn more about her mother and so she embarks on a ten-day visit to the County Cork village where her mother stayed twenty-seven years earlier.

Arriving at Shannon, she's met by Riley Quinn, a songwriter, helper in the family pub and the owner of the cottage where she's going to stay. It's instant attraction for both of them, but Nan isn't about to let a flirtation with a drop-dead gorgeous Irishman get in the way of her mission of discovery. And Riley has no plans to settle down and isn't about to fall for an American who'll soon be gone. Or will he?

This latest Quinn adventure by Kate Hoffman combines delightful characterization with stunning Irish scenery and enough hot sex to steam your glasses. It's obvious Ms. Hoffman also loves Ireland and has traveled there or read some pretty thorough travel books. I run an Irish travel website and have visited County Cork numerous times and felt the realism, right down to the Guinness and Clancy Brothers songs.

The Mighty Quinns: Riley is well written and a delight to read. I will be looking forward to Ms. Hoffman's next Quinn story.

The Mighty Quinns: Riley is a perfect example of a Harlequin Blaze book: gorgeous characters, steamy sex, and sexual attraction that overwhelms the characters and causes them to do things they normally wouldn’t do.

One look at Riley, the hot guy who is supposed to drive her to her vacation rental house, has super-organized, kind of persnickety, schedule-every-minute and budget-every-dime research librarian Nan Galvin chucking her plans and heading to bed with the guy she’s just met.

Riley and Nan’s relationship is fast and furious—a steamy vacation fling. It should fit carefree musician Riley’s personality more than Nan’s, but oddly enough it turns out to be the other way around. I understood Riley’s switch, but never really bought Nan’s.

What this book lacks in realistic character motivation on Nan's part, it makes up for in sexual chemistry. These two can’t get enough of each other and the book is hot, hot, hot. If you’re looking for a potato chip book--quick and spicy; not quality calories but still very satisfying--The Mighty Quinns: Riley is one to choose.

As a lifetime Harlequin reader, I know what to expect when I pick one up. Upon occasion, I end up grabbing one that just blows me away....this was one of them :)

A story that not only pulled me in, but left me weak in the knees :) But of course, that is what Blaze is famous for :) Ms Hoffman has done a wonderful job in not only creating characters and a tale that kept my attention and caused me to huff when interrupted, but gave me such vivid images that I "felt" as if I was right there with them.

Loved this book! It's so well written. It's the first of The Mighty Quinns I've read, but definitely not the last.
