This train is unlike any other it takes you deep into the ocean, through a monkey-filled jungle and into outer space. Hop on and imagine all of the places you can go!
This picture book is about a magic train which travels through different lands(space, water, woods). The colourful illustrations, repetitive phrases and rhyme make the story engaging, accessible and enjoyable for the reader and audience to take part in, therefore is can be eaisly differentitated for all abilities. I used it in a SEN placement and turned it into a sensory story. The different lands and movement (fast, slow) creates multiple opportunities for chilren to have props (water spray for the sea), whistles and clappers for the train sound, the numbered train stops and various animal props. It could also be used in a music lesson.
Miss 3 really enjoyed it. Her sensory sensitivities meant that she just wanted me to read it to her (she didn't want me to put on the CD) but that didn't matter; it stood up as a picture book rather than song. She liked looking at the different environments and making train noises with me.
Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
I covered this book for a week with a Nuresery class and it was very enjoyable as there was a lot of vocabulary and many themes which could be taken from it over the course of the week. The book takes the children on a journey on a magic train through a jungle, a magic wood, fairy land, cake land, outer space and under the sea. There is so much vocabulary and images and themes that can be taken from all these places and so much can be drawn from it. We read it every day for 5 days and the recurring line "faster and faster and faster we go,then suddenly were slow" the children were saying independently after a few days. There was also a song and a video accompanying this book which further enhanced it. Overall I thought it was perfect for a Nursery/ Reception class with a nice story and lots of nice pictures.
The Magic Train Ride is funnily enough about a magic ride which sees the reader and audience travel through different lands. This is a lovely picture book that can be differentiated for all abilities. Its use of repetitive phrases and rhyme make the story engaging, accessible and enjoyable for the reader and audience to take part in.
I would highly recommend this book for EYFS and KS1 however I have used this within lower KS2 and it was still very much enjoyed. The different lands and movement of train allow this to be easily used within a sensory, music or literacy lesson. As well as this there are also a lot of resources online for this story to show you how to incorporate this into a lesson.
This is a great book not just for transport, but also for thinking about imagination and where your ideas can take you. The whistle's blowing, quick, jump aboard! There's an accompanying song which is very catchy...
